Chapter 109: 109

──────

Flaaash!

The brilliant glow faded, and I slowly looked around.

Then I saw it.

Far in the distance stood a massive, ornate, ancient-looking building: the Imperial Palace.

It wasn't burning. The ground wasn't black or sticky, there were no Ghouls in sight, no smell of sulfur, and no smoke.

At a glance, everything looked perfectly normal.

I murmured quietly.

"Has history been changed again?"

"Jiho! That Imperial Palace is so grand and beautiful. Ah! I wish we could bring cameras into the Tower!"

"It does look pretty cool."

The Imperial Palace.

According to raid guides and Hunter interviews, it had been a completely burned-out ruin. I'd heard it was nothing but a huge eyesore, but seeing it intact, it was quite an impressive building.

It looked like one of those famous European landmarks.

Of course, I'd never been to Europe!

As I examined the building like a tourist, battle cries rang out in the distance.

-Waaaaaah!

-Boom! Boom! Craaash!

-Rumble...

Along with the battle cries came explosions and thunderous booms.

It sounded like a battle was taking place somewhere.

I nodded.

"Looks like there are enemies we need to kill. Let's go, Hyeji."

"Okay. Iing Iing, please!"

-Iing Iing!

Twing.

We flew toward the battle using telekinetic flight.

The fighting was taking place on a wide road not far from the Imperial Palace's main gate.

Thousands of soldiers and Ghouls were locked in a fierce battle.

"The Ghouls are coming!"

"Hold them back! Protect the Imperial Palace!"

"Damn it... There are too many Ghouls! Don't hold back your mana!"

-Slash! Crunch!

-Booom!

They fought desperately.

Soldiers and knights swung their spears and swords, cutting down the charging Ghouls. The mages at the rear fired all kinds of magic, sweeping away groups of Ghouls.

Since they were the force protecting the Imperial Palace, they seemed quite elite. Even while outnumbered, they fought well.

But it still wasn't enough.

-Kieeeek!

-Kyaaaah!

-Kraaaaaah!!!

The Ghouls shrieked as they charged endlessly.

There were thousands of them.

"Vermin. That's all they are."

"How long do you think you can last?"

Dozens of War Black Mages stood behind the Ghoul horde.

"...Pathetic things. Even those about to die struggle uselessly until the very end."

Among them stood another Black Mage with an ominous presence.

That must have been a High Black Mage.

"There are War Black Mages, and even a High Black Mage! We can't stop them!"

"We need to retreat while we still can!"

"No! This is the final line of defense! If this place falls, the Empire will be destroyed!"

With thousands of Ghouls and powerful Black Mages gathered here, their odds of survival weren't good.

At this rate, they would be overwhelmed, just as in the original history. The Imperial Palace would burn to the ground, and the Empire would fall.

Just like the Floor 39 Imperial Palace described in the raid guides.

"Damn it. Is there no chance of winning...?"

"A chance? There is one."

"What? Who just said that..."

But this place had me!

"It's time for Extreme Lunatic Hell firepower!"

Who are we?

The Korean people!

A nation with the Ministry of Artillery Defense!

A people of firepower!

And right before me was a horde of thousands of Ghouls.

A mountain of Points, laid out nice and deliciously!

And the best thing for dealing with this kind of dogpile swarm...

Was obviously Fireball.

I raised my staff and prepared Fireballs.

-Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Fwoosh! Fwoosh!

Fireballs rose into the air.

At first, there was one.

Then ten.

Past fifty, then over a hundred...

'Three hundred Fireballs should be enough, right?'

Fwoooooosh!

A full three hundred Fireballs rose into the air and began orbiting around me.

The blazing flames heated the air.

Their bright light radiated an overwhelming presence.

The sky turned red.

Then...

"W-What is that...?!"

"The sky suddenly turned red... There's someone up there!"

"It's the Prophet! The Prophet has come!"

"The Prophet?! The Prophet really exis-"

The people on the ground spotted me and cried out in shock.

With three hundred Fireballs floating in the sky, the commoners had finally noticed my existence!

I spoke softly.

"From this moment on, I shall stand in the heavens."

"Ah! It's too hot! Iing Iing, take me farther away!"

-Iing.

Hyeji fled because she couldn't endure the heat from the Fireballs.

I clicked my tongue.

This was an important moment, with commoners gazing up at me from the ground.

Yet she ruined this cool scene over a little heat...!

Anyway.

"Die."

I lightly swept my staff downward.

Then...

-Screeeeeech!

The three hundred Fireballs orbiting around me poured down like a downpour.

Countless red trails scattered forward and struck the Ghoul horde.

Countless explosions erupted immediately afterward.

-Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!

The noise and vibrations shook heaven and earth.

Blood mist burst outward, limbs scattering everywhere.

-Kieeeek!

-Kyaah! Kyaah!

-Kraaaaaah!!!

Shredded Ghoul limbs flew in every direction, and rotten blood splashed across the area.

Under the overwhelming firepower, thousands of Ghouls were torn apart, pulverized, and erased.

The road had been packed with thousands of Ghouls.

It took only a few seconds to grind down most of them.

Whoooosh.

A thick cloud of dust rolled in with the blast wave, obscuring everyone's vision.

"..."

Silence fell.

The firepower had been too sudden and too overwhelming.

Everyone on the ground fell silent for a moment.

But the quiet didn't last.

"The Prophet! The Prophet has descended!"

"We're saved!!!"

"Waaaaaah!!!"

"Long live the Prophet! Long live the Prophet!!!"

"Heaven!!!"

Waaaaaah!

They raised their weapons and staffs high, shouting at the top of their lungs.

The humans on the ground had fallen into a frenzy at the Prophet's arrival.

I nodded in satisfaction.

"Hehe. The praise of commoners is sweet no matter when I hear it."

"Jiho, honestly, I might've thought that was cool if you'd just kept your mouth shut."

"That's me."

I let Hyeji's grumbling go in one ear and out the other.

Then I glanced toward the other side of the road, where the Black Mages stood.

Their reaction was the complete opposite of the humans'.

"W-What...?! What is that monster?!"

"He wiped out thousands of our Ghouls at once?!"

"What the hell is he?! Is he even human?!"

"My god...!"

The Black Mages stared at me with shocked, panicked eyes.

They were so scared that their gazes wavered wildly.

Cute little bastards.

Since they were worth 5,000 Points each, they looked especially adorable.

Wait there for a bit.

I'd finish off the Ghouls first, then turn all of you into Points too.

I liked saving the best for last.

Just then.

"Do not panic!"

-Thud!

One Black Mage struck the ground with their staff.

The one I'd been watching from the start.

The one with a far more powerful presence than the other Black Mages.

The High Black Mage shouted.

"Certainly, he is strong...! To possess such power, he must have reached at least the Sixth Tier. But even he cannot use such tremendous power recklessly! And after casting such large-scale magic, he cannot have any mana remaining-"

"Hyah!"

I summoned another three hundred Fireballs.

Fwoooooosh!

New Fireballs formed and began orbiting around me.

The High Black Mage's mouth fell open.

"W-What...!"

"Wait there a little longer! I'll kill the rest of the Ghouls, then I'll kill all of you too!"

"...!"

I left the stunned Black Mages alone for the moment.

Then I threw another batch of Fireballs!

-Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!

The Ghouls that had barely survived were ground up once more.

A few were still alive, but the people on the ground could handle that much themselves, right?

Whoosh!

I turned my staff toward the Black Mages.

There were roughly fifty War Black Mages within my field of view.

I aimed at them one by one and spoke.

"Whiiich one should I kiiill first? Ding dong dang dong...!"

"R-Run!"

"Dang!"

Railgun, fire!

-Booom!

An electric gleam flashed.

A metal projectile shot out with a thunderous roar.

A blue trail pierced the air as a deafening crack echoed out.

The metal projectile I fired pierced through a Black Mage's chest.

-Pop!

A gaping hole opened in the Black Mage's chest, and they collapsed helplessly.

A translucent force field surrounded them, as if they had deployed defensive magic.

But a Railgun wasn't something that could be stopped by that.

The Black Mages shouted in terror.

"Run! Run away!"

"We can't win! Scatter, now!"

"Crazy! How can a monster like that...!"

"Shut up and get the hell out of here!"

Scamper!

The Black Mages quickly fled in every direction.

They scattered so fast and nimbly that they looked like cockroaches.

Especially since all their clothes were black too.

But I'd already expected their desperate flight.

I aimed my staff.

'Railgun, multiple manifestation.'

-Crackle! Crackle! Craaackle!

Multiple spectral rails appeared.

Metal projectiles floated into the air and settled onto each rail.

I was floating in the air with Iing Iing's telekinetic support.

The view was wide and clear.

And my Railgun had a range measured in kilometers.

No matter how hard they ran, they were still in the palm of Buddha's hand!

"The sun... is setting..."

"Jiho, I don't think you should use that joke anymore. I heard that guy got fired after he was caught peeping into the female employees' nursing room and stealing breast milk from the refrigerator."

"What...?!"

Mikree was a breast milk thief?

My head was spinning.

Anyway.

Railgun, multiple manifestation, activate!

-Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!

A deafening roar erupted.

Countless blue trails scattered in every direction.

Every blue trail I fired struck without missing a single shot.

They simultaneously blew apart the heads and hearts of the fleeing War Black Mages.

-Pop pop pop pop pop!

They collapsed all at once.

More than fifty War Black Mages had died at once, their heads and hearts pierced through!

I looked at their corpses and murmured.

"In ancient China, there were men named Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. Though they weren't born on the same day, they swore beneath a peach tree that they would die together on the same day, at the same time. That was called the Oath of the Peach Garden."

"Jiho, why are you suddenly saying something so random?"

"They went beyond dying on the same day and at the same time. They died in the same minute and second too. Their friendship is truly admirable!"

"..."

Hyeji clicked her tongue.

Why?

I'd been watching Romance of the Three Kingdoms videos on MuTube before bed lately.

I hadn't known much about it before, but it was fun.

Anyway.

I'd killed the Ghouls, and I had sent the Black Mages off together in friendship.

Only one enemy remained.

"W-What...! H-How could this...!"

Perhaps because the High Black Mage wanted to maintain the dignity expected of a mage, they hadn't fled like the others.

They just stood there.

I nodded in satisfaction.

"That guy has the proper attitude of a mage. That's right. A mage shouldn't run around without dignity! All the others ran off in a panic without a shred of decorum, but that one stayed right where they were. Nice. They know how to preserve their honor and dignity. Perhaps there is a reason they're called a High Black Mage?"

"I think they're just frozen in fear."

"Shall I start magic harvesting now? Iing Iing, take me in front of that Black Mage."

-Iing Iing!

Twing.

With Iing Iing's telekinetic flight, I moved in front of them.

Lightly, I extended my foot and landed softly right in front of their nose.

Then I looked up at them.

"How... How can a human wield that much power? It should be impossible...!"

"..."

"C-Could you really be the Prophet? No. That can't be. The Prophet doesn't exist! Or perhaps you are a Dragon from legend, disguised as a human-"

The High Black Mage seemed to have lost their mind from my overwhelming strength.

They stared blankly and muttered to themselves.

I spoke quietly.

"High Black Mage. Show me your magic. I'd like to swipe your magic."

It was time to learn a new spell!
