◈ Academy’s Pure Love Dark Knight
Chapter 15
──────
Episode 15. As expected, a world where only I lack mana is wrong.
"A three-dimensional magic circle, you say."
Dennis tilted his head.
He doesn't seem to know yet. There's a skill called a 'ultimate' that only specific characters can use. Players had to take a really difficult route to learn it.
'Drake had Dragon Slaying (龍殺), and Dennis had the three-dimensional magic circle.'
I approached the blackboard. I drew a large circle in the center and a small circle next to it, like a satellite. There's chalk here too.
"It's simple. You turn a flat surface into a three-dimensional one, using various magic spells simultaneously."
"Then couldn't you just cast multiple spells repeatedly?"
"It reduces your ability to improvise. When would you draw circuits multiple times? With the method I've thought of, you can carry over 100 magic circles in one hand, Professor."
Like slicing a pizza, I drew lines dividing the large circle into several segments. For the 8-segmented circle, I used four different colors.
"Licht, an interesting theory for a change. Is there anything you might have missed?"
"I'm aware that magic circles only activate on a flat surface."
"Good. Continue."
He spoke, seemingly intrigued.
This is yours. I'm just pretending to say it, like with Kainel.
My eyes met with Yellow Dog's, who was now staring intently at the blackboard. Even if he saw it, only Dennis would be able to use it anyway.
"By following these lines, you use the small circles drawn next to them like satellites, making them orbit."
I connected long curves that rotated around the large circle, like Saturn's rings.
I made the circle appear as a sphere.
"Then one cross-section is formed. Is this equivalent to one magic circle?"
"Exactly. As expected of the Professor."
"My doctorate in the Magic Tower wasn't for nothing, Licht."
Dennis took a sip of coffee, a smile forming at the corner of his mouth.
"Then what about the problem of magic gathering? There's compatibility, you know, Helmet Guy."
"That's right. An explosion might occur."
Oh, good point. Is she talking about elemental weaknesses? As expected of The Mage of Flames.
My eyebrows raised slightly at the unexpected question.
"That's why only Professor Dennis will be able to use it. Water can easily dissolve most attributes."
"Right. It's advantageous."
The Glass Knight chimed in. Is it because they're magic users? They seem to know all the knowledge I do.
I was ashamed of my arrogance, having thought I knew future information.
"But even if you layer flat magic circles to make a three-dimensional sphere, don't you have to memorize all of them?"
"That's why the magic that acts as a 'satellite' is important."
"It's like a guide, then. Like an index in an encyclopedia."
This time, Kainel and Dennis spoke.
The Hero, chin in hand, deep in thought, and Dennis, looking at me as if he'd found something new to do.
"Licht, where did you hear this theory?"
"I thought of it myself. Since I can't use magic, I suppose I came to admire it."
I stammered. How could I say it's nicknamed '3D magic circle' among users? The attention of the three focused on me.
"..I'll permit your club application."
"Really? Thank you, Professor!"
After a short silence, he signed the paper I had submitted.
Success? He's doing this with magic too.
"However, Licht."
Eyes that had spotted prey. I'd experienced this before in my previous life. Dennis placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Why don't you join my research lab?"
"Me? Why?"
"Your intellect and academic passion are remarkable. It's a theory as if you know the future of magic."
I do know it. Goosebumps rose on my neck.
Am I going to be taken somewhere and have my thoughts read?
"I do use water magic somewhat..."
He created a sphere made of four rings in his palm. The same shape I drew on the blackboard. He's doing it right away. As expected of the 3rd ranked wizard among the Ten Greats.
"It's been a long time since I could confirm something like this right before my eyes."
He made a water droplet with his other hand. The properties changed each time the satellite of the manifested three-dimensional magic circle orbited.
It repeatedly transformed from gas to solid, then back to liquid.
"I'll give you all the books and materials you need. Why don't you work under me, Licht?"
"I'm not sure what you mean..."
"I'm asking if you're interested in grad school. Come find me after you graduate. Until then, you can participate in the club."
I felt dizzy. Grad school here too? This was supposed to be a romance fantasy academy story,
so why is there a research lab overflowing with academic passion and tired assistants?
"You don't want a body that can't use magic, do you? It just means investing a few more years."
Dennis, you had this kind of personality?
"If you use a medium to replace the circuits, it'll probably be possible. So I just need a little test subject... no, your help."
He's looking for a legal slave from the 21st century.
"Nowadays, it's hard to even get a job if you can't use magic. You know that, don't you?"
"That's true, but I'll decline."
"Are you really not interested? You'd receive funding from the Empire, too! Our lab is currently researching a teleportation magic circle, and it would be great if Licht could help..."
"No, Licht."
Thank you, Crown Prince! You saved me from a future where I'm stuck as a magic theory dispenser.
Maybe he's a good guy after all. He doesn't even hit on Ariel.
Mardol separated Dennis and me.
"Swordsmanship, teach me."
"Ah, yes."
He said, coming right up to my face. His voice, echoing, sounded layered. What a truly luxurious helmet.
'Canceling the thought that he was a good person.'
I swallowed, disappointed. Either way, a life of hardship is confirmed. Is continuing club activities like this the right thing to do? As the Glass Knight blocked him, Dennis had no choice but to back off.
"..You still have plenty of time, so think about it a bit more, Licht."
The blue-haired man returned to his seat. When did his title change again?
Is it safe since Dennis won't have any other route besides her?
"Anyway, I sincerely welcome you all to the magic club."
In any case, it was a success.
If I continue to spend time with Dennis like this, it will be easier to connect the loveline. After all, I still need to prepare for the <Knight Heart> story. I sighed in relief.
"Thank you, Professor."
"Same club."
Huh?
The distance between Mardol and me had subtly narrowed.
Now that I think about it, he was obsessed with strength for some reason.
What was the reason again...? He was a Gary Stu character, so I didn't understand and erased it from my memory.
"That's a relief! Helmet Guy!"
“Licht, you must not use magic. On good conscience.”
For now, I decided to think about it later. I was already overwhelmed just acting as a go-between for these two around me. The Crown Prince didn't have a separate coupling, so it should be fine.
"Let's see about that later, Kainel."
With that mindset, we all sat cozily in the clubroom, sharing snacks.
***
-Clack.
The sound of shoes echoed.
In a lightless underground.
While Licht and his companions met Dennis, a secret meeting was taking place elsewhere.
"Oh my, hello, my little lambs. It's the first time since the war, isn't it?"
A slit-eyed woman in a black nun's habit.
"Cardinal Beatrice. The Day of Prophecy is approaching."
"I know that. But why did you summon me immediately after I left the Academy? I almost got caught."
The professor who taught Divine Power Studies until this afternoon.
She stood before a group in pure white attire adorned with four swords.
"My apologies. It was only yesterday that the Hero confirmed the final schedule."
"..He truly has a delicate heart, doesn't he? Is the Book of Life and Death the minimum number?"
An emblem with four swords of different colors drawn in a # shape.
The tallest figure among them replied.
"Yes, all preparations are complete, Cardinal."
"The moment of destiny, foretold by The Hero of Omniscience, is at hand."
She slightly opened her golden eyes and offered a twisted smile.
"I've already selected the Hero. They were so innocent."
"Is that true? As expected of the Cardinal. You are magnificent."
"I merely spoke the truth, and they didn't even doubt it."
A 'fufufu' laugh escaped her lips.
"Well, there is one somewhat annoying human, though."
"Who is that? Surely The Hero of Omniscience hasn't made a mistake..."
"Disgusting."
No sooner had the words left his mouth, the golden-haired nun stretched out a hand towards the speaker.
"..Please watch your mouth. He wouldn't do such a thing, would he?"
"Ah, ahh... Cardinal, please forgive me..! Mmph! Ugh! Mmph!!!"
"Would the next person please continue? I dislike hearing such foul language."
Using divine power, she sealed the speaker's lips, then returned to her slit-eyed expression.
The chilling act froze the air around them.
Suddenly, someone raised a hand and questioned Beatrice.
"C-could it be one of the Ten Greats...? Has our plan been exposed?"
"No, it's just that I saw a tiger cub."
"If you say it like that...?"
"There will be no hindrance. I always trust our Hero, who always does his best."
She recalled the Black Knight she saw in class. Drake's swordsmanship, which no one had been able to learn. He and the Hero she believed in stood in direct opposition.
If anything, it would be advantageous, not disadvantageous.
'Ah, his gentle grace will soon return to this world again...'
Her face was filled with ecstasy. A pang in her chest, she clasped her hands over her heart and prayed. Like a girl in love, her face was flushed, but
"I'm truly glad I became a professor."
Her eyes still weren't smiling.
"As expected of the prophecy's outcome, thanks to it, the Princess can also be easily captured."
"Is that true...? Cardinal?"
"Yes, it will truly be an enormous harvest."
Now, hugging her own arms, the nun trembled.
"This time, we will truly succeed!!"
"Does this mean we no longer have to stay in this shadowy place, Cardinal!"
"Long live The Hero of Omniscience! Long live!!"
Due to the words spoken by Beatrice, the surrounding area turned into a frenzy.
"It shall be so. For there is nothing He does not know!"
With her arms spread wide. A light of divine power, like the sun, was seen behind her. The alien glow created by the black nun.
It meant that something was seriously wrong.
