Chapter 50: A Vessel for the Heart

──────

Since I'd completely monopolized the resources of every floor I'd passed through so far, I had more Gold than I could ever need.

No matter how much I poured into enhancing items or how many potions and White Rolls I bought, my funds would never run dry.

Dark Elf equipment was fairly expensive since even their shop-made gear was high quality, but it was still only equipment from Floor 7.

With the Gold I'd built up, I could buy hundreds of items like these.

"What, what is this? Is this some kind of human joke? You're saying you'll buy every weapon in my shop?"

The Dark Elf blacksmith didn't take me seriously. She seemed to think it was some kind of joke or exaggeration.

I hadn't expected her to take it seriously either. I'd only said it because it was something I'd wanted to say at least once.

That didn't mean I was joking, though. I opened my inventory and pressed the Gold Drop button.

-Clatterrrrr!

A massive amount of gold coins poured out like sand. The blacksmith stared at them blankly.

"You've even got a large item box. But what is this? Are these really all gold coins?"

"Yeah."

"Has human alchemy advanced enough to make gold coins by the pile? Or what, are you royalty from somewhere?"

The short Dark Elf blacksmith let out a disbelieving laugh. So was she selling them or not?

"I was going to pick out a good weapon because I thought you were cute, but there's nothing cute about the way you act. Still, I'll sell them to you."

Grumbling, she took the weapons hanging on the wall and laid them out in front of me.

[Ebony Steel Blade]

Attack Power +58 (Slash)

Critical Damage: x2.5

Durability 850/850

Enhancement Attempts Remaining: 15

Looking at the options, it was definitely excellent for shop-made equipment. Most importantly, its Durability was incredibly high, just as I'd wanted.

The base stats aside from Durability weren't all that impressive, but it had an overwhelming maximum of fifteen enhancement attempts.

If I loaded it up with [Sharp] enhancements, its Attack Power would surpass most low-level Unique weapons.

"This is insane."

Didn't people on the Open Community say that Warriors who wore a full set of Dark Elf-made Ebony equipment on the lower floors weren't called Jeonbung-i?

Of course, anyone rich enough to equip every slot with this stuff wouldn't have become a Warrior in the first place, so it was just a joke.

Still, I could see why people said it. This was total wallet-Warrior gear.

"I'll take all of them."

"You're really buying all of them?"

After paying the blacksmith, I equipped an [Ebony Steel Blade].

One reason I liked low-level shop-made equipment was its clean, no-frills design.

Most high-level Unique equipment had unusual appearances that sometimes made them inconvenient to use.

This Ebony weapon had a sleek, refined design, and its weight distribution and balance felt natural in my hand.

In terms of handling alone, it was almost comparable to my favorite simple [Steel Straight Sword].

Choosing the Dark Elf faction had definitely been the right choice. While I was at it, I should replace all my gear with Dark Elf-made equipment.

Naturally, that meant I needed enhancements too.

"You want me to enhance all these weapons, dozens of them? We couldn't do that even if we emptied out every material in the shop."

The Dark Elf blacksmith looked at me like I was insane, so I opened my inventory and poured out Enhancement Materials.

"Oh boy, my back's going to give out today."

With a sigh, she picked up her hammer.

* * *

The blacksmith grumbled, but she eventually took the materials and moved to her workbench.

I wondered if I had to tell her each enhancement option out loud too, but thankfully, a system window soon appeared.

Naturally, I used the maximum amount of materials, and naturally, I dumped every option into [Durability].

"You want to raise the Durability even higher? Are you planning to mine a mountain with these?"

I was replacing the shop-made set I'd always used with this one, so investing heavily in Durability was the obvious choice.

The blacksmith said she didn't understand, but she diligently enhanced the weapons anyway. Watching her work was pretty fun too.

-Clang! Clang! Clang!

She fed in the materials, fired up the bellows and furnace, then continued hammering at the anvil with both care and all her strength.

She didn't look much different from any other blacksmith Non-Player Character, so someone might wonder what was so entertaining about watching her.

But there was one important detail. Every Dark Elf had a great figure. This blacksmith was short, but her chest certainly wasn't.

Since she worked in front of a fire, she was dressed quite lightly... and every time she carefully swung her hammer, her chest shook.

I was watching, live, one of the Open Community's all-time legendary images.

[The Short, Busty Dark Elf's 200% Sincere Hammering]

"All right, this one's done too. Take it."

The blacksmith finished the enhancements much faster than ordinary Non-Player Characters and handed over the weapons one by one.

"But what are you even planning to do with so many weapons whose only quality is sturdiness? I can't imagine it."

"I like sturdy weapons."

"Isn't this a little too sturdy? And why do you need dozens of them?"

I was going to brush her off because explaining was a pain, but then I wondered if her affinity might drop, so I gave her a rough explanation.

Weapons that were too strong got in the way of improving my skills, and since I used multiple weapons at once, I needed several backups.

The blacksmith put down one of the enhanced weapons and asked as if she couldn't understand.

"How roughly do you treat weapons if you need to carry around so many backups?"

"I'm pretty strong, so they break easily when I fight."

"Well, aren't you something. You think weapons break that easily just because you're strong? Let me see the equipment you usually use."

She had the air of some village elder. Without thinking much of it, I showed her my weapons.

Both the shop-made set I favored and the fully equipped gear I occasionally pulled out.

The blacksmith looked over my gear, making sounds like "Huh" and "Tsk, tsk," before putting on a stern expression.

"Human, the weapons aren't at fault. You are."

Then she suddenly began lecturing me.

* * *

Come to think of it, Dark Elves were a very long-lived race, like Elves in other stories.

Humans could live for a hundred years at most, while an Elf would still be a young adult in their prime at that age.

Maybe that was why the short Dark Elf blacksmith scolded me in the tone of a total old fogey.

"Honestly, when you die, all the weapons you've broken will come greet you and curse you out. They'll ask why you blamed them after treating them like this."

She said that, just from the chips and nicks along their edges, a blacksmith like her could clearly see how brutally I'd handled them.

The blacksmith went on about how only beasts treated weapons this way and asked when humans had become so ignorant.

Most of my combat skills besides Throwing had come from Lizardmen, so it made sense that I handled weapons like a beast.

"Either way, I can't just leave this alone. I have to meddle, if only because it would be a waste of the weapons I sold you."

After saying that, the blacksmith went deeper into the forge and returned with a sheet of paper.

She scribbled something down with a pen, but I couldn't read any of it. It had to be the Dark Elf language.

"Go find someone named Rizmel and show them this letter. Say Erwen sent you, and they'll understand right away."

"Who is that?"

"My relative. Still young, but their swordsmanship is excellent. Once they see the letter, they'll teach you swordsmanship with all their heart."

My eyes widened. Someone would teach me swordsmanship? That was one of the reasons I'd chosen the Dark Elf faction.

Among the Tower of Trials' many Non-Player Characters, there were a few who taught skills for a price under the name of training.

According to the community, there was one such Non-Player Character in the Dark Elf faction as well.

The problem was the required affinity and the complicated quests you had to clear before receiving training, but what did this mean?

Could I skip all that and just learn swordsmanship?

"Don't look at me like that. I'm not forcing you. Still, if you learn properly, I'll give you a reward."

The blacksmith must have taken my stunned expression as displeasure. After clearing her throat, she started talking on her own.

As if responding to her words, a blue quest window appeared before me.

[Erwen's Meddling - Swordsmanship Training]

Description: Blacksmith Erwen is the meddlesome sort.

Her meddling remained as strong as ever, even with an adorable human customer she hadn't seen in a while. That means you.

She has arranged swordsmanship training for you and decided to prepare a small gift to motivate you.

[Quest Objectives]

1. Complete Rizmel's three stages of basic training.

2. Complete Rizmel's three stages of advanced training (Optional).

3. Complete Rizmel's selection test (Optional).

4. Win a sparring match against Rizmel (Optional).

It was a quest with a ton of optional objectives, reminding me of the Shepherd Girl's Quest.

I didn't know what Rizmel's training and tests involved, but it was obvious they'd help me a lot.

On top of that, I would get a separate reward for completing them. No matter how lousy the reward was, I welcomed it.

"A good ingot came in recently. I'll make a sword that's perfect for you with it. What do you think?"

I opened the Open Community and searched for a stupid post I'd seen before.

[If you think Dark Elf ladies are as big-hearted as their huge tits, upvote lol]

Then I immediately dropped an upvote.

Dark Elves really were the best race.
