◈ Got a Gallery in the Wild ◈
Chapter 131: Click (3)
──────
I really hated rain. I hated it even before I got dropped into this shithole.
When it rained, it was hard to see a clear sky, and the weather got insanely humid.
Every monsoon season, it was hot as hell already, and the humidity went completely nuts. It nearly killed me.
If air conditioning hadn't been invented, wouldn't I have melted into a puddle by now?
Rumble!!
"This weather is fucking disgusting."
I cursed as I watched the torrential rain pour down hard enough to nearly block my view.
I'd even prayed for the rain to let up a little, but what the hell was this?
Instead of answering my prayer, someone had apparently punched a hole in the sky.
That's why I hate gods. I like religious people, but I hate gods.
'Do they seriously hate me so much they're trying to screw me over?'
If that was the case, they were seriously petty. I shook my head.
Anyway, it had been almost a week since the last rain, so I'd prepared thoroughly.
I put up waterproof tarps to keep the oven and blast furnace from getting wet, and moved the containers holding fish into the cave.
It was a shame, but I had no choice but to leave the Fish Trap in the river. It had started raining first thing in the morning.
I'd woken up in a panic and hurriedly dealt with everything.
'I need to figure out the signs that rain is coming from now on.'
I had a rough idea of how often it rained. Still, if I knew the warning signs, I could deal with it more reliably.
It would be nice if I could figure it out with common sense from my old world, but...
This was the Forest of Four Seasons. Normal common sense didn't apply here.
I'd have to learn this forest's own signs.
'When's this going to stop?'
I stared out at the downpour. There was no sign of it letting up.
This rain was on a completely different level from last time. The river had probably risen like crazy.
And with the river rising, all sorts of sea creatures would get swept upstream.
'What'll show up this time? It won't be something like a shark, right?'
I needed to stay on high alert for a while. I didn't want to get blindsided like last time.
I was blankly watching the endless rain when I heard it.
"Keeeeng!"
"Hm?"
An animal cry pierced through the roaring rain.
Wondering what was going on, I looked outside the cave.
"Keeeeeng!"
"Keng! Keng!"
"Squeak! Squeak!"
A whole crowd of small and medium-sized animals had gathered outside the cave.
There was a raccoon dog like the one Fast Sloth had torn apart last time, along with rabbits, deer, boars, enormous rats, and animals I'd never seen before.
Just as I wondered why they were all outside, the raccoon dog at the front locked eyes with me.
"Keng! Keeeng!"
"Squeak?"
"Oink?"
"..."
This felt bad. I carefully put up the iron fence.
The moment those animals rushed into the cave, it would turn into a complete mess.
Besides, who knew what diseases they might be carrying?
"Kek! Kekek!"
The raccoon dog pointed at me and protested as I quietly put up the iron fence.
It seemed to be saying, "We should all eat well and live well together! Why do you get to be the only one safe, you selfish bastard!"
My response was very simple.
I raised my middle finger.
I didn't know whether animals understood what it meant, but as long as it made me feel better, that was enough.
'You can't trust these animal bastards.'
Of course, cute Wonmo was an exception, as was Fast Sloth, with whom I had a symbiotic relationship.
More importantly, those animals were at fault too. They should've built homes sooner.
'Not that I have any right to say that after stealing this place from its original owner.'
Either way, nobody was getting into this house. If they wanted in, they could try.
As I snorted and firmly blocked the cave entrance, perhaps the raccoon dog had a plan.
"Keng!"
"Oink!"
The raccoon dog smacked the boar's side with its paw.
The boar then kicked the ground with its hind legs as if it were about to charge.
The second I saw that, I felt instinctive dread.
That bastard was definitely going to charge.
Which left me with only one option.
Heavy armament.
They couldn't get past the iron fence anyway, so I could use that advantage to fight a siege.
"Oiiink!!!"
While I was gearing up, the boar charged at me at incredible speed.
Maybe that was because it lived in the Forest of Four Seasons, but it was absurdly fast.
Its size was no joke either. It was the kind of massive beast you'd see in an old monster movie.
Still, I'd learned something during my fifteen days surviving in the Forest of Four Seasons.
Stab!!
Range was everything.
Range ruled.
Before the boar could ram the iron fence, I pierced it between the eyes with aura.
It would've been a little dangerous if I'd been using Heavenly Demon’s Sword. But the weapon I had now was the Mislicon sword.
The aura had already grown insanely huge, but the Mislicon sword projected an aura even bigger than that.
Thanks to it, I stopped the boar before it hit the iron fence.
Thud!
The boar, its forehead pierced, collapsed to the ground. The impact and sound cut through the rain.
Most of the animals looked shocked that the boar had died so easily.
Keeping the aura burning around my sword like flames, I flicked the blade.
"Come on, then."
"..."
"Come on, you animal bastards. Come on!!"
"Keeeeeng!!!"
And so, a siege began over a single iron fence.
Using my overwhelming reach and the iron fence, I fought to keep the animals from getting closer.
Clang!
The iron fence took some damage now and then from rabbits and deer with freakishly powerful kicks.
Thank god it was made of iron. If it had been wooden, it would've broken long ago.
"Get out of my house right now!!!"
"Keeeeng!"
The siege to defend my home ended when the leader, the raccoon dog, died.
Once the raccoon dog was dead, the other animals scattered in every direction.
I breathed heavily, still fired up from the unexpected siege, then flopped down.
'Seriously, what the hell...'
It hadn't been like this last time. It was strange.
Maybe the heavy rain had destroyed all their homes.
I sighed deeply and looked beyond the iron fence.
Various animals had died, including the boar that had gone down first.
I wanted to butcher them, but I didn't have the time.
'And with all this rain, they'll rot fast.'
It was a shame, but I would have to throw them out.
I'd dig a hole and bury them. In the same place where I'd buried the gorillas.
[Post title] Fought a Siege

[Post] (Photo of the iron fence on the verge of breaking)
[Post] Those animals suddenly tried to get into my house, so I fought a siege.
[Post] If the homeowner says no, then no means no. Why were they trying to force their way in?;;
└ [Heavenly Demon]: Hmm. Could you not have shown them a little mercy? Being so harsh is how one loses public sentiment.
└ [Wild Grylls]: I'm not living in civilization, I'm living in the wild;;
└ [Heavenly Demon]: Ah, right. I forgot. It slipped my mind for a moment.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: A siege against animals... That's ridiculous. You didn't get hurt, did you?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Nope. I just sliced them up with aura from far away and they all died.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: Guess it worked weirdly well.
└ What did the animals do wrong? They just wanted to get out of the rain...
└ [Wild Grylls]: Last time, some raccoon dog stole my Fasting Pills. That's when I realized you can't trust these animal bastards.
└ LOL
└ LMAOOOO
└ Wasn't that the one Fast Sloth tore in half?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Yeah, but that's still better than my house getting dirty.
└ By the way, has anyone ever fought a siege against animals instead of monsters?
└ Humanoid monsters like orcs and goblins attack sometimes, but no idea about animals.
└ It happens. Wolves are the animals that fight humans the most.
└ Why aren't there any wolves there? Shouldn't there normally be some?
└ Maybe wolves are somewhere else because they're territorial?
I closed the Gallery after watching the users talk among themselves.
When I looked outside again, the rain seemed to have weakened a little.
It would probably stop in about an hour.
'From now on, I'll assume it rains once a week...'
When it rained heavily, animals came looking for shelter. I wrote it down in my log.
Wonmo slept peacefully, completely unaware of the difficult siege I'd fought.
It was understandable. The siege had come out of nowhere.
Drip. Drip.
About an hour passed, and the rain stopped. I looked outside.
As if it had never rained at all, the bright sun welcomed me.
Thwack! Thwack!
So what? I still had to work my ass off burying animal corpses.
Praying that no earthworms would show up, I dug into the ground.
Thankfully, no huge earthworms appeared.
"Puhah!"
"...What are you supposed to be?"
Only one weird mole popped out.
The mole stared at me with bright, round eyes before scrambling away.
It must have been hiding underground, only to get caught up in that sudden downpour.
After briefly staring at it in disbelief, I neatly buried the animal corpses.
'The drainage ditch is working fine... Is all that's left checking the river?'
The river would still be badly swollen, so there was no need to rush.
I had plenty to do anyway. It was fine to head up slowly.
'If this happens every time it rains, it's going to be a real headache.'
It wasn't just the animals living in the Forest of Four Seasons. I had to consider the weather too.
I checked that the oven and blast furnace hadn't been damaged, then armed myself.
I had no idea what might come out of the swollen river, so I equipped Heavenly Demon’s Sword instead of the Mislicon sword.
Wonmo was still sleeping soundly, so I left Fast Sloth behind with him.
By the time I reached the river, I came across exactly what I expected.
Kwoooosh!!!
"Fuck."
I cursed as I watched the swollen river. It was like someone had turned a waterfall sideways.
Naturally, the Fish Trap I'd set up had been swept away without a trace.
At least there was one bit of good news. A few fish were flopping around near the river.
I could get by on those until I got another Fish Trap.
'But...'
One fish stood out among them.
Last time it had been an eel, but this time it wasn't an eel.
It was a pufferfish.
Yeah. A pufferfish. A fish with a round body like Wonmo's.
Something that lived in the sea had been swept all the way here.
'Did it rain at sea too? Or what?'
I could understand eels, since some lived in freshwater, but a pufferfish was something else.
It definitely should have been a creature that only lived in the sea, so how had it been swept here?
Regardless, I had no intention of eating it. Pufferfish were poisonous.
Their poison alone could kill people, and creatures in the Forest of Four Seasons would be worse, not better.
'And I hear preparing them is incredibly difficult.'
You could roughly clean ordinary fish and be fine, but not pufferfish.
They were famously tricky. It wasn't something you could pull off by just copying what you saw.
Apparently, plenty of people in the Gallery had watched videos of pufferfish being prepared, tried to copy them, and died.
Unless you were an expert, it was best not to even touch one.
'Just in case, I'll send it back.'
I held my shield in front of me and gently pushed the pufferfish away.
The pufferfish must have felt threatened because it puffed its body up.
Looking at it now, it wasn't an ordinary pufferfish.
It was a Spiny Pufferfish.
If I got pricked by one of those spikes, I'd probably get poisoned.
The medicine Allfather gave me had given me poison resistance, but I still needed to be careful.
'I'll send you back home. Get going.'
I was nudging it along and rolling it away when...
Kuguguguk!!!
An ominous sound came from the pufferfish.
Boom!!!
Its spikes literally exploded outward in every direction.
Thankfully, I raised my shield the moment I sensed danger, so I took almost no damage.
But that wasn't the end of it...
Boom! Boom! Boom! Kaboom!
The spikes it had fired exploded again, releasing a purple mist.
First it puffed itself up, then it fired its spikes, and finally those spikes exploded.
I had to admire a self-defense mechanism with three separate layers.
And that still wasn't the end.
Sssshhhk-
Spikes regenerated from its previously smooth body, like shark teeth growing back.
The second I saw that, I freaked out and abandoned any thought of gently pushing it away.
I kicked it as hard as I could.
Splash!
The pufferfish landed perfectly in the river.
Now it would head down to the lake. Or maybe return to the sea.
"Cough! Cough!"
I coughed violently and hurried back.
'How did this happen even though I was so careful?'
This place was seriously unbelievable.
