I had thought the Forest of Four Seasons was only called that metaphorically.
A demonic realm overflowing with every kind of environment, where different seasons lived and breathed.
That was still true, considering the various terrains spread out right across the river.
The volcanic region especially had seemed completely hopeless.
But the volcanic region wasn't the only hopeless place. This place was just as bad.

The sudden arrival of winter was a problem, but more than anything, the temperature had dropped sharply.
Wonmo and Fast Sloth seemed to be holding up because of their fur, but I wasn't.
It was the kind of cold that cut into your flesh. Even wrapping myself in the hide I used as a carpet did nothing.

How nice would it be if I could just turn on the heat? Shivering, I looked around near the cave.
Fortunately, aside from the thick snow piled everywhere, nothing else stood out.
Still, I couldn't relax yet. I needed to check on the other areas.
'Did winter come to where those gorillas live too?'
It was likely, but who knew. That place was a tropical rainforest.
A regular forest, maybe, but I'd never heard of winter coming to a tropical rainforest.
Then again, this was the Forest of Four Seasons, so it wasn't impossible.
I barely warmed myself by the campfire as I waited for a message from the dwarf.
To take my mind off the cold, even a little, I searched the Gallery for information.

Animals in regions with winter were smaller on average.
In other words, the place where I lived was inhabited by animals that were small on average.

Wonmo's mother alone was as big as a house.
The Saber-Toothed Tiger had been the size of an actual house.
If this was small on average, how much bigger were animals elsewhere?
I couldn't even imagine it, and a hollow feeling washed over me. I wish I hadn't heard that.

Shivering, I headed outside.
There was something I had been too cold to check earlier. The fish.
Worried something might have happened to them, I looked into the metal container.

The water in the container had frozen solid, and so had the fish.
Natural frozen storage. All I could do was sigh.

Even so, I was still worried about food. For one thing, I couldn't get any myself.
I'd have to check in person, but with weather this cold, the river had probably frozen solid too.
I still had smoked tiger meat, but I had no idea how long winter would last.

It wasn't completely impossible. Shivering, I added firewood to the campfire.
Without winter clothes, I could barely do anything.
Even after putting on both the uniforms PrincessChaenggu and KingLeor had given me, I was still cold.
If I hadn't had those, I might have frozen to death already.
'Isn't there some magical item that keeps the inside warm?'
The thought suddenly occurred to me, so I made a post on the Gallery.
First, I needed to warm up the cave and decide whether I could do anything outside.

└ [Passing Dwarf]: To do that, you'd have to rip up the whole floor, wouldn't you? And you've got Mithril in the floor.
└ [PrincessChaenggu]: Passing Dwarf is right. It would be more efficient to repair the house than use a crystal ball.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Then what's best?
└ [Passing Dwarf]: Better to build a fireplace. Making a hole in the cave roof is better than digging through the floor.

└ [Passing Dwarf]: Or freeze to death lol.

└ [Passing Dwarf]: I'll make a rough guide and post it, so look at that and build it. It's easy if you have bricks.
So I would need to make a hole somewhere. I let out a dry laugh.
With winter attacking out of nowhere, repairs were mandatory.
'The cave roof is still better.'
I couldn't rip up the whole floor, especially because of the Mithril.
Thinking of the materials I needed, I began preparing.
[Passing Dwarf]: Here are the winter clothes.
[Passing Dwarf]: I couldn't give you shoes because I didn't have any that fit you.

Before that, I received winter clothes from the dwarf. They were only temporary, but still.
The warm-looking fur and leather were striking.
The hat was especially large, with luxuriant fur.
They looked like the kind of winter clothes a hunter with a rifle would wear.
"Whew."
Once I put them on, life became a little more bearable. My feet were still cold, though.
I'd just have to wear a thick pair of socks and call it a day. There happened to be a suitable pair of socks on the Gallery.
Now that I had winter clothes, all that remained was installing a fireplace in the cave.
The dwarf said they would post a guide right away, so I just had to follow it.

The cross-section showed me how it was structured. The dwarf's explanation helped too.
The structure itself wasn't difficult, but the chimney was the problem. I would need to seal the gaps between the bricks so smoke didn't leak out.
For both the oven and the blast furnace, I had always sealed the gaps between bricks with mud.
What did that mean?

"Goddammit! This is driving me crazy!"
It meant I had a hell of a time digging up ground that had frozen solid.
It had rained yesterday and snowed today, so the dirt had become more like ice.
I considered pouring hot water on it, but quickly gave up.
I'd just be making more work for myself. Pouring water on frozen ground was insane.
'I'll have to dig it up with a pickaxe.'
In the end, I had no choice but to 'mine' the ground with a pickaxe. Why was I going through all this crap?
After gathering all the dirt I needed, I bought a ladder from the Auction House.
I needed to climb onto the cave roof and see whether there was a suitable spot.
The ladder I had bought last time for butchering was a folding ladder, so it was too short.
The new ladder was tall enough for me to reach high places.
'Somewhere around here...'
Tap.
I was looking over the cave roof for a suitable spot when a white object gently landed on the back of my hand.
I felt nothing through my gloves, but it didn't matter.
Tap. Tap.
It wasn't just once. White objects kept falling one after another.
I lifted my head to the sky. Dark clouds had gathered, completely blocking out the sun.
'Wow...'
Trash was falling from the sky. What a shitty place.
As if it had read my mind.
Whoooooosh!!!
"Aaaahhh!!!"
In only thirty seconds, the snow evolved into a blizzard.
'What the hell did I do wrong?!'
The injustice was killing me.
