‘You’re all having a good time.’
Asella, the Hero, smiled fondly as she looked at Grylls’s post.
The recent posts on the Gallery had not exactly been pleasant.
First there were political posts about El Dorado, then the Blood Cult, and then the Real-Life Fight incident.
She was already on the run, and with one thing after another happening, things had become quite difficult.
To make matters worse, even the assistant moderator, Heavenly Demon, had gotten caught up in the Real-Life Fight incident, so proper moderation could not be expected.
‘I wish every post was like this.’
The Gallery was filled with human greed, but heartwarming posts appeared from time to time.
Photos and videos of pets people raised. Children growing up healthy. All sorts of sweet stories.
They felt even more precious, like flowers blooming in a garbage dump.
‘I hope El Dorado can be resolved peacefully too...’
Asella looked down at her hand.
She was holding a newspaper.
[System] [Protests Growing Increasingly Violent. What Is the Pope’s Position?]
[System] [Pope’s Side Claims Wizard King Kadir Manipulated the Footage...]
[System] [Citizens Push Back, Demand the Pope’s Resignation...]
The newspaper described the incident that had recently shaken not just El Dorado, but the entire world.
It was also why Asella had found it difficult to fulfill her duties as Head Mod lately.
She looked at the paper and fell into thought.
‘Why would they say something like that...?’
The Pope’s side had made a shocking remark, calling the people dogs and pigs.
It was not a rumor from the Gallery. Wizard King Kadir had exposed it himself.
The Pope’s side claimed the video was fabricated, but would Kadir really do such a thing?
Absolutely not. There were rumors that he was eccentric, but he was not a fool who would do something like that for no reason.
‘The Goddess asked us to make the world a better place before she left. So why is this happening...?’
Being Pope meant representing the Goddess, not merely holding a title.
The Hero was also the Goddess’s sword, not a weapon forged to harm the innocent.
Yet the current Pope had forgotten their role and failed to carry it out properly.
Then what was she, the Goddess’s sword, supposed to do at a time like this?
Should she point her sword at the Pope and follow the will of the people?
Or should she wait quietly until they came to their senses?
‘I don’t know about that...’
Pointing a sword at the Pope meant rebellion.
Nothing like that had ever happened in El Dorado’s history.
But looked at another way, the people at the top had rotted badly enough for rebellion, something unprecedented in history, to even be considered.
Rot had to be cut away, and it took a sharp sword to cut it out.
A sword sharper than anything else.
‘...It doesn’t have to be me.’
Asella tried to ignore the thought. She was already branded a traitor.
Would it really be wise for her to step forward in this situation? She did not think so.
Just a little longer. She should wait a little longer. Eventually, an opportunity would come.
A hopeful opportunity to set everything right.
“Excuse me.”
Asella turned toward the voice that reached her ears.
She thought the tracking party had caught up with her, but that did not seem to be the case.
If they were from the tracking party, they would have worn armor openly. The person in front of her wore a hooded robe.
Asella only looked puzzled for a moment before speaking without lowering her guard.
She did not forget to look for an escape route either.
“What is it?”
“I heard a rumor that the traitor Hero was here.”
“...”
Asella’s eyes narrowed. This person was definitely a pursuer.
Her appearance was too distinctive to hide with a robe.
Putting aside the suspicious clothing, her hair was an extremely rare orange, a color few people in the world possessed.
The Hero’s orange hair was widely known, making her easy to track.
In particular, the scabbard of the holy sword Revolution was flashy despite her shabby appearance.
For those reasons, rumors would quickly spread whenever Asella hid somewhere.
‘The tracking party is already here... Well, I held out for a long time.’
El Dorado was in chaos, so the pursuit had slowed down, but apparently that had not lasted.
Asella prepared to flee at once, subtly drawing back.
At that movement, the hooded person spoke with certainty.
“You’re Asella, right?”
“...?”
Asella tilted her head. It was a voice she had heard somewhere before.
It was a woman’s voice, husky and strangely charming.
Whoosh!
The unfamiliar woman threw off her robe.
Her face was fully revealed.
Asella’s eyes widened when she saw it.
Short brown hair and slightly upturned, catlike eyes.
She had a cynical air about her, but that could not hide her unique beauty.
“L-Lace? Big sis?”
“Yeah, brat. It’s your big sister. Have you been well?”
Before Asella had been exiled, Lace was someone she had been personally close to.
Especially for Asella, who had no family, Lace was practically an older sister.
Asella smiled brightly at the familiar face, but soon felt confused.
“H-How did you know where I was?”
“I tailed the holy knights pursuing you. I’ve gotten ahead of them now.”
“Then...”
“They’re in this city right now.”
That was not good news. They needed to leave this place immediately.
“Shouldn’t we run away quickly, then?”
“Right. Do you have anywhere in mind?”
“Yes. Let’s think while we head there.”
Asella and Lace decided to shake off their pursuers first.
They did not forget to update each other on everything that had happened in the meantime.
How Ludwig was doing. Whether Lace knew the situation in El Dorado. How the Pope was responding, and more.
“That damn Pope. Even with things this bad, they still refuse to step down. They say they can’t give up the position the Goddess granted them, or something.”
“...”
“They even purged our teacher and do whatever they want. If this turns into bloodshed...”
The situation in El Dorado appeared more serious than Asella had thought. She fell into thought.
Many people were protesting, but they lacked a central figure.
With one, they could drive the Pope out.
“...you know.”
“...”
“Asella!”
“Eek?! Ack?! Huh?”
Asella, who had briefly been lost in thought, jumped in surprise.
When she turned with a blank expression, Lace was looking at her.
“What are you thinking about? I called you, but you didn’t react.”
“Ah... It’s nothing. I’m just tired...”
“Tired? Ah, that makes sense. Let’s rest somewhere suitable.”
“Yes...”
Asella answered quietly and looked at Lace’s face.
Lace’s face was quite dirty, as though she had not been able to wash properly for some time.
When you were being pursued, bathing was the height of luxury.
‘Why does big sis have to suffer too?’
Had Ludwig not sacrificed himself, Lace would have been sent straight into the Forest of Four Seasons as well.
Ludwig was somehow surviving, but Lace must have had an especially hard time.
‘This can’t go on...’
No more innocent people could be harmed.
The Pope did not truly serve the Goddess. They were only relying on the blessing she had bestowed to pursue power.
As Asella’s heart slowly began to change...
Shaaaaa-
The holy sword, Revolution, gradually began to emit light.
* * *
“Hmm-hmm-hmm. Hmm-hmm.”
Recently, Kadir, known in the Gallery as Allfather, had been in an excellent mood.
He had obtained a subject for research, one that might only come along once in a lifetime.
“Truly... What a beautiful sight.”
He muttered as he looked at the golden stone preserved within a translucent membrane.
That golden stone was Sky Whale shit, which Grylls had given him as a gift for research.
The very existence of a Sky Whale was enough to turn the academic world upside down, and this was its excrement.
Ambergris alone was quite rare, yet this was ambergris from a Sky Whale.
It was a material so precious that its value could never be measured.
‘This Ambergris can make living things float in the sky. It can do it simply by burning it as incense, without even consuming it.’
Facts he had learned by chance through Grylls and AllHailTheSun.
Using Sky Whale Ambergris as bait or turning it into perfume.
From Kadir’s perspective as a researcher, he did not like either of those things.
The danger was one thing, but it was simply too wasteful. Still, he had gained valuable information, so it was fine.
‘The Sky Whale’s secret must be hidden in this Ambergris.’
Sky Whales were mythic beings that casually defied conventional biology.
A creature with no wings, one that supposedly lived in the sea, flew through the sky?
They were far more absurd than the giraffes Grylls had mentioned.
‘I want to ask Grylls for more samples, but...’
The Ambergris Kadir had received was roughly the size of an adult man’s fist.
It was already quite large, but human greed had no end.
Especially from Kadir’s perspective as a researcher, it was a somewhat disappointing size.
‘Still, where else could I get something like this? Grylls even said he would give it to me if he did not need it.’
Ambergris clearly had immense value.
But if asked whether it helped with survival, Kadir would have to say, well, maybe?
Flying was a useful ability, but the method of gaining it was difficult.
Knowing Grylls’s personality, Kadir doubted he would abandon his human dignity and eat shit, no matter what.
Knock, knock, knock.
[Kadir, the meeting regarding the Sky Whale will begin shortly.]
Kadir was considering what experiments to perform with the Ambergris.
A mage spoke to him from outside.
The Sky Whale’s existence had greatly shocked the academic world.
And since the Mage Tower was crawling with freaks, interest in the Sky Whale was hotter there than anywhere else.
“I’ll be there shortly.”
Kadir felt the same way. He put aside his regret and began preparing for the meeting.
He would hide the fact that he had obtained Ambergris, but the meeting could give him ideas.
Then he looked wistfully at the Ambergris and left the laboratory.
Click.
Only quiet silence settled over the laboratory.
It was filled with all sorts of experimental equipment and research materials.
Among them, the Ambergris stood out the most.
Surrounded by a translucent membrane, as if Kadir treasured it dearly...
Flash!
It suddenly began to shine, as though something had activated.
A glowing stone might not seem so strange, but what followed went far beyond strange.
Rumbleeeeee!!!
The entire Mage Tower shook with an earthquake.
Everyone in the Mage Tower could not help but panic at the sudden quake.
Kadir was no exception. He had lived in the Mage Tower his entire life and had never experienced an earthquake.
He had occasionally felt artificial tremors caused by experiments, but this was on an entirely different level.
“W-What is that?!”
“An earthquake?!”
Those outside the Mage Tower felt much the same.
They were confused as an earthquake began with the Mage Tower at its center.
But something even more shocking happened.
Kwoooooom!!!
“T-There! Over there!!”
“W-What is that?!”
Someone pointed at the Mage Tower. Others turned their heads as well.
When they looked, they faced an incredible sight. No, an utterly shocking one.
The Mage Tower had always been famous for its towering height.
But now, it was rising higher and higher into the sky.
Slowly but surely, as though the whole plot of ground beneath it were ascending into the air.
“T-The Mage Tower...!”
“The Mage Tower is flying...?!”
“By Aragon...”
The Mage Tower had begun to float into the sky.
* * *
“Wow. This is fun. Wonmo, want to fly one more time?”
“Kyuu!”
“Okay, okay. Just once more.”
“I don’t want to!”
“I didn’t ask for your opinion.”
This is pretty fun once you get used to it.
