◈ Got a Gallery in the Wild ◈
Chapter 46: Lakeside (1)
──────
The Inner Energy Cultivation Method really does seem to relieve fatigue.
Even if I replaced sleep with it, I'd still be full of energy the next day.
Well, it wasn't perfect yet, so mental fatigue was harder to shake off.
Physical exhaustion was manageable, but mental fatigue could only be dealt with by sleeping.
[System] XXX has requested a trade. Would you like to accept?
[System] @@@ has requested a trade. Would you like to accept?
[System] GonnaBeADuke has requested a trade. Would you like to accept?
“What now?”
The moment I logged into the gallery, countless trade requests floated before me.
Had something happened again while I was away from the gallery?
I searched my username just in case, but nothing particularly stood out.
Other than the fact that my credibility had shot up after yesterday's incident.
It seemed the registered users who had hesitated over my reliability were finally sending trade requests.
‘Come on, guys... I told you I'm as fragile as a sunfish.’
Or were they planning to suck me dry before I really did become one?
I'd heard that Adult Mandrakes alone were incredibly valuable.
Apparently, they figured even one Adult Mandrake would be enough, Inner Cores or not.
‘Put up something that'll actually tempt me.’
I searched the usernames of the registered users who had requested trades with me.
Some were newly created accounts, while others had been active for a surprisingly long time.
GonnaBeADuke in particular. I was pretty sure they had requested a trade with me last time too.
You could call that persistent, but right now it only annoyed me.
‘And they didn't even make a post.’
I'd said it before. If they had something I needed, I would request the trade myself.
Apparently, they'd forgotten already. With no other choice, I made another post.
[Post title] A reminder.
[Author] Wild Grylls
[Post] I woke up to a flood of handshake requests... no, trade requests.
[Post] As I said before, I have no intention of trading unless you have something that would help me.
[Post] If you want to trade, make a post and put up the item first. I'll look at it and decide.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: You're awake. Is anything bothering you?
└ [Wild Grylls]: I feel much more refreshed when I sleep while practicing the Inner Energy Cultivation Method.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: That is because you are also performing Qi Circulation and Breath Regulation. Your foundation is lacking now, but once you reach mastery, you will be perfectly fine even without sleep.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Whoa.
└ [Starlight Princess]: You're awake! Is this day five?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Yeah. Honestly, I want to escape as soon as possible.
└ [Starlight Princess]: They say the more urgent things are, the more you should take the long way around. I made another Elixir today, so I'll request a trade with you shortly!
└ [Wild Grylls]: Huh? Didn't you already give me all your Elixirs?
└ [Starlight Princess]: It's an Animal Elixir. Please use it on Wonmo and Fast Sloth. A single photo of Wonmo is enough payment, so please accept it!
└ [Wild Grylls]: Thank you. You're healthy, right?
└ [Starlight Princess]: As I said before, I feel reborn. My parents are still worried, though.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Parents are always like that. Just take your rehab slowly, to be safe.
└ [Starlight Princess]: Thank you. I'll keep cheering for you! You've got this!
└ [Wild Grylls]: Thanks haha.
└ [Passing Dwarf]: Hey. I finished the Fish Trap. Hurry up and make sure you send something to eat with my drinks.
└ [Wild Grylls]: I've got something I want to ask before the snacks.
└ [Passing Dwarf]: What is it? Don't expect me to do it for free.
└ [Wild Grylls]: I do have a conscience. I need a scabbard, and it needs to be really sturdy.
└ [Passing Dwarf]: A scabbard? Can't you just buy any old one?
└ [Wild Grylls]: The sword Heavenly Demon gave me is too good. It cuts through wood like it's tofu.
└ [Passing Dwarf]: Ah. There are things like that sometimes, yeah. I'll send you a temporary one with the Fish Trap, so use it for now. If you want a proper one, bring me something good.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Thx thx. I'll send it after I trade with Starlight Princess first.
└ [PrincessChaenggu]: Hello! The pants I mentioned yesterday are ready!
└ [Wild Grylls]: Thank you so much. When is Chaeyu playing?
└ [PrincessChaenggu]: It'll be soon! Since it's Boxing Day, they play about once every three days!
└ [Wild Grylls]: I'll be rooting for a win. Go Chaeyu!
└ [PrincessChaenggu]: Thank youu haha.
It really paid to be a decent person. People were leaving comments for me the moment I woke up.
Of course, I still had something to worry about. The Head Mod might see this and think we were getting too chummy.
The rules said excessive fraternizing was prohibited. It was pretty vague.
‘They must know Heavenly Demon is giving me special treatment, too.’
It seemed they were letting this much slide. Or maybe it was because of my unique situation.
[System] Starlight Princess has requested a trade. Would you like to accept?
After marking the start of the day like that, Starlight Princess was the first to request a trade.
Before accepting, I looked over at Wonmo.
He was still sleeping sprawled out.
The funny part was that he had his limbs spread wide like a person.
They said animals slept like that when they felt safe somewhere. It gave me a strange feeling.
[System] Starlight Princess has registered trade items.
[Starlight Princess]: I included an Animal Elixir and another gift!
[You]: Huh? Another gift?
[Starlight Princess]: You'll like it, Grylls.
[You]: Then where's the photo?
[You]: (A photo of Wonmo sleeping sprawled out) Is this enough?
[Starlight Princess]: He's so cute!
[Starlight Princess]: How can he sleep like that?
[You]: I was surprised too.
[Starlight Princess]: I hope everything continues to go well for you! You've got this!
That was the end of my conversation with Starlight Princess. I checked the items she had sent.
She called it an Animal Elixir, but it glowed gold. No matter how I looked at it, it was a normal Elixir.
I wasn't even sure Animal Elixirs existed in the first place. I decided to think of it as a gift.
Then there was the other item. The thing she'd guaranteed I would like was a little surprising.
‘Cake?’
A slice of cake sat on an elegant glass plate decorated with a lovely picture.
Whipped cream had been spread across the soft-looking cake, with a small strawberry placed on top.
She had even thoughtfully included a fork so I could eat it easily. Swallowing hard, I picked it up.
“Ahh...”
The moment I put a small piece of cake into my mouth, a groan escaped me.
Sweetness filled my mouth. The distinctive sweetness of sugar tingled across my tongue.
I'd never forgotten the taste of salt, since I sprinkled it over fish every time I ate one.
Still, it had been a long time since I'd tasted something sweet enough to make my tongue ache.
‘She really has good sense.’
I set the cake down for a moment and entered the gallery. I still had registered users to trade with.
The person who had requested a trade after Starlight Princess was Passing Dwarf. They seemed like the type to get things done and move on.
[System] Passing Dwarf has registered trade items.
[Passing Dwarf]: Put in the Fish Trap and a temporary scabbard.
[Passing Dwarf]: You know how to set up the Fish Trap, right?
[You]: Yeah. I'm going to widen the spot where I put the hose.
[Passing Dwarf]: That should do it. Deal with the scabbard yourself, and make sure you send something to eat with my drinks. Got it?
[You]: Do you like sashimi?
[Passing Dwarf]: My mouth's watering already lol.
[You]: But I'm not very good at slicing sashimi lol.
[Passing Dwarf]: You fucking bastard.
[You]: Anyway, I'll try. Thanks for the stuff.
After the trade ended, I checked the things I had received from the dwarf.
‘Why is the Fish Trap so huge?’
It was enormous. Nearly as big as me.
It caught me a little off guard, but it might actually be better this way.
Considering the size of the fish I'd caught so far, it was about right.
‘It'll take a while to install. I'll do it after exploring.’
I put off installing the Fish Trap for later. It looked like doing that alone would take up the whole day.
Next was the scabbard. The temporary scabbard was inside the Fish Trap.
‘It looks normal?’
It was a black scabbard, roughly the same size as Heavenly Demon’s Sword.
I picked up Heavenly Demon’s Sword from where it rested against the wall and slid it into the scabbard.
Shhk- click!
The sword slid in smoothly without catching anywhere.
Passing Dwarf had said it was temporary, but I was completely satisfied with it. It even had a belt, so there would be plenty of ways to use it.
‘That dwarf is kind of nice, actually.’
I snickered and contacted my next trade partner, PrincessChaenggu.
[You]: Go Chaeyu!
[You]: Even if this rough patch lasts a long time, don't get too discouraged!
[You]: No one stays the strongest forever!
[PrincessChaenggu]: Thank youu!
[PrincessChaenggu]: I'll give you another special uniform too!
[You]: Who is it this time?
[PrincessChaenggu]: A legendary midfielder named Sun!
[PrincessChaenggu]: They're from the Central Plains, oddly enough!
[You]: Thank you!
[You]: Can't we watch Chaeyu matches on the gallery?
[PrincessChaenggu]: Broadcasting Magic has to be bought with money, so only highlights will get uploaded!
[You]: That's too bad.
[You]: I wanted to watch one too.
[PrincessChaenggu]: I'd like to let you watch, but broadcasting probably won't work in the Forest of Four Seasons.
[PrincessChaenggu]: But why do you want to watch?
[You]: It feels like I'm only receiving things.
[You]: I wanted to show you that I genuinely support you.
[PrincessChaenggu]: Ahh...! That's a wonderful attitude!
[PrincessChaenggu]: You have a better mindset than anyone!
[PrincessChaenggu]: I hope you escape soon!
[You]: Thank you.
[You]: If I find anything good, I'll send it to you right away.
What kind of thing would PrincessChaenggu like? I needed to think about that.
First, I had to check what she sent. As promised, it was a pair of long pants and a jersey top.
The pants were made from stretchy material like the uniform. There wasn't just one pair, but two.
Smiling in satisfaction, I put on the pants. They felt completely different.
‘I’d be fine living in just these.’
It reminded me of the days when I wore nothing but sweats at home.
I tossed the pants I'd been wearing until just now into a corner of the cave. From now on, those would be for emergencies.
‘Now that all the trades are done, time for the cake... Huh?’
My excitement at the thought of eating cake lasted only a moment.
I'd definitely only eaten one piece, so why was the plate empty?
Unable to understand what had happened, I blinked and looked around.
Wonmo was completely absorbed in sleeping on his mat. The only one left was Fast Sloth...
“...”
“...Hey.”
At my call, Fast Sloth tilted its head.
Seeing that shameless behavior, anger inevitably welled up inside me.
“Why don't you wipe the cream off around your mouth?”
“...”
Only then did it feel around its mouth.
There wasn't a small smudge of whipped cream there. A huge chunk was stuck to it.
Fast Sloth looked at the cream on its claws, then very slowly put it into its mouth.
“Yum.”
“...”
“Nom nom.”
Was there really anyone this infuriating in the world? The saddest part was that there was no way I could beat it.
In the end, there was only one thing I could do.
“You little bastard!!!”
I unleashed Lion's Roar. It seemed to work pretty well, because Fast Sloth covered its ears.
“Kkyuak?!”
Ah. Right. Wonmo was here.
I felt terrible when Wonmo jolted awake in shock.
‘This is all Fast Sloth's fault.’
Thinking that, I gently soothed Wonmo.
Luckily, he only looked confused. He didn't seem to understand what had happened.
“Wonmo. Want breakfast?”
“Kkyuu!”
Even if he had understood the situation, feeding him breakfast would have settled things anyway.
I gave Wonmo some meat and headed outside.
When I turned on the hose, the water came gushing out. Unfortunately, it seemed there were no fish.
‘Time to get ready.’
I made do with a Fasting Pill for breakfast again.
Maybe because I'd just tasted something sweet, it tasted more bitter than usual today.
‘...Should I ask for one more?’
It felt too shameless, so I decided against it.
The day had only just begun, but I already felt drained.
‘Please let there be a place with lots of food.’
It was a small wish. Letting out a sigh, I finished getting ready.
Fast Sloth was annoying, but it was the only one capable of protecting Wonmo.
I should think of the cake as payment for all the hard work it had done guarding the home. That would make me feel better.
“Hey, Fast Sloth.”
“?”
Fast Sloth tilted its head when I called.
“I'm heading out, so guard the home well. Got it? You'd better earn that cake.”
“...”
Wave, wave.
Fast Sloth waved its arms as if to say it understood.
I snickered at that response and finished the rest of my preparations.
At my waist were the scabbard holding Heavenly Demon’s Sword and a small bag.
In my left hand, I carried the Golden Shield in case of an unexpected attack.
I left my right hand empty so I could keep my balance if something sudden happened.
‘Better run the cultivation method before I go, too.’
Having fully set the cultivation method in motion, all that remained was to leave.
Nervously, I started walking toward the river.
Once I reached it, I planned to follow it downstream.
‘Hope I find a clue to escaping.’
Did it know how I felt, or not?
Or was the god of this world deliberately messing with me?
“Ha. F*ck.”
After following the river, I had no choice but to curse at the ‘environment’ laid out before me.
The space wasn't changing in real time like it did across the river. It was clearly connected to the river.
The environment itself was so fucked up that I couldn't help but curse.
“Is this an ocean or a lake?”
A vast lake stretched out before me.
