◈ Got a Gallery in the Wild ◈
Chapter 64: The Dead (1)
──────
Even after some time passed, Passing Dwarf still hadn't made a post.
I didn't think the bastard had taken the food and run. That would earn them a permanent ban.
I'd even given them drinking snacks, so they were probably getting wasted somewhere. That had to be it.
‘At this rate, they'll die of liver cancer.’
Though since it was infused liquor made from an Adult Mandrake, maybe it would make them healthier instead.
With a sigh, I checked the Gallery again.
No matter how closely I looked, there was nothing from Passing Dwarf.
[Post title] Fuckfuckfuckfuck
[Author] D*mbass Team
[Post] No way. That? LMAOOOO
[Post] Please disband already.
[Post] How Did the Loser Tigers Supposedly Become a Good Team?
All kinds of bizarre posts had appeared in its place.
New posts were coming so quickly that I even searched Passing Dwarf's name, wondering if their post had been buried.
Unable to figure out what was going on, I opened a random post.
[Post title] D*mbass Team
[Author] SuspiciouslySo
[Post] (An emblem with a roaring lion drawn on it)
[Post] Disband already, you idiots.
└ LMAOOOO
└ What's the score now?
└ They just gave up a grand slam. It's 7-0 LMAO
└ What a shitty team LMAO
Hmm. I was starting to get the picture.
Most of the other posts were related to sports too, specifically baseball.
Apparently, a baseball game was happening somewhere right now.
As far as I knew, sports usually had several teams playing at once.
It wasn't strange that related posts were sprouting up everywhere.
[Post title] ???: Call me up, bastards.
[Post] (A photo of a fierce-looking tiger beastfolk)
[Post] What did I tell you?
└ I'm sorry for doubting you.
└ Fuck, they should've pulled them sooner.
└ This bastard keeping all their pitchers locked in a treasure chest is pissing me off LMAO
[Post title] ???: Your pitch is so damn slow,
[Post] (A photo of an angry middle-aged chef)
[Post] MY GRANDMA COULD HIT IT WITH A CANE!!!
└ Lots of grandmas will be showing up today LMAO
└ Looking at this game, it should be legal for grandmas to beat them with canes.
└ For real LMAO
[Post title] You keep calling them a d*mbass team,
[Post] but everyone knows you love them.
└ Like how your mom raised you?
└ LMAOOOOOOOO
└ Damn, that's spicy LMAO
[Post title] Child abusers
[Post] (An emblem with a dog drawn on it)
[Post] Those assholes aren't nurturing children's dreams, they're crushing them.
[Post] I went with my son today, and he cried when they blew the lead. Fuck.
└ They're still teaching him a lesson.
└ What lesson?
└ That you can make a living even if you're that much of a dumbass.
└ LMAOOOO
└ LMAOOOOOO
“Pffhahaha.”
There were so many jokes that made me laugh just by reading them.
Harsh jokes came up frequently too, making it feel like eating spicy junk food.
There weren't many direct personal attacks, so the Head Mod didn't step in.
└ Why is the Head Mod letting this happen? This place is full of swearing.
└ [DontAbandonTheHero]: Sometimes people need to let out their anger!
That was apparently the reason. Thanks to that, the users could vent their anger to their hearts' content.
A few people got so worked up that they began spamming, but the Head Mod dealt with them immediately.
‘Come to think of it, doesn't Heavenly Demon work as an assistant moderator too?’
A question suddenly came to mind. What did Heavenly Demon think about sports?
As soon as I thought of it, I sent her a one-on-one message.
[You]: Are you there, Heavenly Demon?
[Heavenly Demon]: What is it?
Her reply came the moment I sent the message. Wasn't she working?
After a brief moment of surprise, I asked about what was currently happening in the Gallery.
[You]: You know what's going on in the Gallery right now, don't you?
[Heavenly Demon]: I know at least that the dead are crying out.
[You]: The dead?
[Heavenly Demon]: Looking at the way they wail, are they not just like rotting corpses?
It was harsh, but it summed up sports fans in a single sentence.
I wasn't a fan myself, but I roughly knew what they were like.
My friends had been the dead themselves. I remembered how their sanity came and went every game day.
[You]: You aren't going to ban them or anything, right?
[Heavenly Demon]: There is no need.
[Heavenly Demon]: They make me laugh whenever I see them. You should have a look as well.
[You]: I'm watching them too.
[You]: Does the Central Plains not have sports?
[Heavenly Demon]: It does.
[Heavenly Demon]: There will likely be a game tomorrow.
Martial arts and sports. What a strange combination.
I'd heard the Central Plains was conservative, but people couldn't escape entertainment.
There was a good chance they allowed wholesome entertainment like sports to some degree.
[You]: Do you have a team you support?
[Heavenly Demon]: No. You seem quite interested in it.
[You]: It was part of the culture I enjoyed before coming here.
[You]: I was what they called a casual fan, someone who didn't support a particular team or dig deeply into it.
[You]: Still, being a casual fan didn't make sports any less enjoyable.
[You]: If a team had a compelling story, I could get more invested than anyone.
[Heavenly Demon]: Are you planning to become one of the dead as well?
[You]: Not to that extent, but I do plan to support a team.
[You]: PrincessChaenggu has helped me out, after all.
[Heavenly Demon]: Hm. I do not understand what is so enjoyable about ball games.
[Heavenly Demon]: If one is going to play with a ball, sparring seems the better option.
That was such a boomer thing to say. Still, I couldn't say I didn't understand.
At first, I'd thought the same thing. What was so fun about kicking a ball around? What was the point of supporting a lousy team?
But as I watched my friends turn into madmen, no, into the dead, I came to understand.
It was a drug. A drug that made them support their team to the bitter end, even if it made them sick.
...Just kidding. They enjoyed it because it had an indescribable pull.
[You]: Everyone had different tastes, so it was hard to explain. Anyway, a culture like sports can strengthen unity.
[Heavenly Demon]: Strengthen unity... It sounds like a religion.
[You]: Religion is part of culture too.
[Heavenly Demon]: Then if this lady personally leads ball games, the believers' unity will grow even stronger.
[You]: Wouldn't it be better to found a club instead of playing yourself?
[You]: You're an important person, Heavenly Demon.
[Heavenly Demon]: A fine idea. I shall consider it.
[You]: Save up money first.
[You]: It costs a fortune.
That was assuming she even had the means to found a club.
I roughly knew Heavenly Demon was someone important, but founding a club? That was another matter.
I just hoped she understood that sports weren't simply ball games.
[Heavenly Demon]: I have a question for you.
[You]: Go ahead.
[Heavenly Demon]: If this lady founds a club, will you support it?
[You]: Of course.
[You]: I'll definitely support it.
After everything Heavenly Demon had done for me, how could I not support her?
Maybe she understood how I felt, because she gave me some warm words in return.
[Heavenly Demon]: It is a pity I cannot bring you to the Divine Cult.
[Heavenly Demon]: I will keep your words in mind.
[You]: Thank you.
[Heavenly Demon]: Do not die before this lady comes to get you herself.
My conversation with Heavenly Demon ended with words that were almost well wishes.
Afterward, I checked the time. It was an awkward hour to start anything.
‘First, I should give the stones to PrincessChaenggu and Starlight Princess.’
Since there was no word from the dwarf, it seemed better to make the trades first.
Even if they turned out to be ordinary rocks, they were free, so it was fine.
[Starlight Princess]: Is this really Orichalcum?
[You]: I don't know either.
[You]: Even if it isn't, I'll give it to you.
[Starlight Princess]: Thank you.
[Starlight Princess]: I'll give you a gift too.
[You]: What kind of gift?
[Starlight Princess]: Cookies. They'll be delicious.
[You]: Ooh!
Cookies, after the ice cream I'd had last time. I was already looking forward to them.
Besides, the Fast Sloth had gobbled up all the ice cream.
I promptly sent Starlight Princess a stone as a gift.
[You]: You can verify it too, right?
[You]: Whether it's Orichalcum or not.
[Starlight Princess]: I'll need to test it in my workshop, but it won't take long.
[Starlight Princess]: Thank you.
[You]: Oh, by the way, you've been working out lately, right?
[Starlight Princess]: Yes.
[You]: What kind of workouts do you do?
With nothing but sports-related posts appearing in the Gallery, the question had come naturally.
Just a few days ago, Starlight Princess had been on the verge of death.
I'd heard that ever since recovering, she'd become absorbed in exercise.
[Starlight Princess]: Just a little bit of everything.
[Starlight Princess]: I can feel my muscles growing.
[You]: Aren't you interested in sports?
[Starlight Princess]: I prefer making my body stronger.
That made sense. She probably didn't have time to watch sports while building her body.
It hadn't even been a week since she'd fully recovered. She was probably still deep into rehabilitation.
[You]: I see.
[You]: Were you interested in exercise before you recovered too?
[Starlight Princess]: No. Back then, all I could think about was when I would die.
[You]: Oof...
[Starlight Princess]: Not anymore, though.
[Starlight Princess]: The sweat after a hard workout feels really... refreshing.
She was evolving into a fine gym rat. A good development.
After listening to a long speech about exercise, I ended the conversation.
She said she'd even make me protein supplements later, but I firmly refused.
There was no reason to accept them when things better than that were lying all around me.
‘Unless I'm the one giving them to her.’
If I'd known this would happen, I should've given Starlight Princess the Inner Core. I would give it to her if I found one later.
Anyway, after giving Starlight Princess the stone, I shared cookies with the Sloth and looked for someone.
That person was PrincessChaenggu. There had been no news from them at all.
I had traded with Starlight Princess because I had made a post ahead of time, but PrincessChaenggu hadn't reacted yet.
I'd already finished everything I needed to do, and swordsmanship training would take too long.
‘I should trade with PrincessChaenggu, then either train or prepare dinner.’
My trade cooldown was about to end too. The timing was almost perfect.
I browsed the Gallery while waiting for PrincessChaenggu to request a trade.
Just as Heavenly Demon said, the Gallery was overflowing with rotting dead.
Wondering if it got like this every week, I made a post.
[Post title] Does the Gallery get like this a lot?
[Author] Wild Grylls
[Post] These lunatics are coming out in droves right now. Does this happen every time there's a game?
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: No. Different kinds of lunatics tend to come out every quarter.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Every quarter? What happens every quarter?
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: Academy exam periods.
└ You'll get to learn the jokes of the learned then. Look forward to it.
└ The most common posts are people saying they're going to kill their professors LMAO
└ [???]: : Mr. Exam Scope... Something that huge won't fit in...!!
└ [???]: : It won't all fit in my fucking head.
└ LMAOOOOOO
└ LMAOOOO
People were the same everywhere.
They said all kinds of jokes came out during exam periods, so I would have to look into it sometime.
[System] PrincessChaenggu has requested a trade. Would you like to accept?
While I was browsing the Gallery, PrincessChaenggu sent a trade request.
They had apparently been busy with something else and had just returned. I accepted immediately.
[PrincessChaenggu]: Hii!
[PrincessChaenggu]: I'm a teensy bit late because I was getting ready!
[You]: Getting ready for what?
[PrincessChaenggu]: Getting ready to watch the gaaame!
[PrincessChaenggu]: I need some training to settle my mind and body, you see!
[You]: ...At that point, wouldn't it be better not to watch?
[PrincessChaenggu]: No wayyy!
[PrincessChaenggu]: This is about loyalty, loyalty!
I couldn't relate, but I could understand.
Since I'd never had the time to get deeply invested, all I had to do was nod along.
[You]: I'll give you the stone that's believed to be Orichalcum for now.
[You]: If it's confirmed to be Orichalcum, I'll give you more later.
[PrincessChaenggu]: Thank youu!
[PrincessChaenggu]: Is there anything you need at all?
[You]: I'll let you know once it's confirmed to be Orichalcum.
I'd received too much from them already. This was my limit.
Maybe PrincessChaenggu understood how I felt, because they didn't say anything else.
[You]: The game is starting soon, right?
[PrincessChaenggu]: Yep! Given who we're facing, this is a match we absolutely have to win!
[You]: Didn't you say you would upload highlights?
[PrincessChaenggu]: If what you gave me is Orichalcum, I can record all ninety minutes!
[You]: Won't you get sued?
[PrincessChaenggu]: Could anyone catch me if I upload it to the Gallery?
[PrincessChaenggu]: And if it isn't Orichalcum, it will be hard to upload even highlights.
That was true. There wasn't much anyone could do even if they uploaded it to the Gallery.
They'd said Broadcasting Magic wasn't perfect and cut out here and there, so it would probably be inconvenient too.
‘Come to think of it, what's the maximum video length?’
I'd only uploaded short videos so far, but judging by what PrincessChaenggu said, they could be quite long.
A football match was about ninety minutes. Could they upload something that long?
Curious, I asked PrincessChaenggu.
[You]: How long can a video uploaded to the Gallery be?
[PrincessChaenggu]: There's no limit! But mana consumption is high, so most people can only manage ten minutes, though.
[You]: Does that mean you can record all ninety minutes?
[PrincessChaenggu]: That's what the Orichalcum is for!
[PrincessChaenggu]: With this, there won't be any overheating, so I can use it efficiently!
[You]: Aha.
I didn't really understand, but apparently that was how it worked.
If it really was proven to be Orichalcum, maybe I could put it to good use too.
[PrincessChaenggu]: I should get going now!
[PrincessChaenggu]: Give us a cheer, please!
[You]: Go, Chaeyu!
[You]: You'll definitely win today!
[PrincessChaenggu]: Thank youu, hehe.
[PrincessChaenggu]: Wouldn't it be wonderful if Chaeyu knew you existed, Grylls?
[You]: Then I'll have to cheer even harder.
There was something romantic about it. An event for a fan stranded in the wild.
It probably wouldn't happen. Besides, I had enough on my own plate.
I exchanged good wishes with PrincessChaenggu and ended the trade.
Since the game would start soon, I went outside for a moment to check on things.
‘The smoking is going well. I should spray the repellent first.’
I had been regularly spraying Snake and Insect Repellent.
Without it, I might have died alone in the middle of the night.
After doing some quick maintenance, I returned to the cave.
I intended to cheer hard to repay PrincessChaenggu.
Then, the moment I entered the Gallery, this was the first thing I saw.
[Post title] You Xucking motherless whoreX-spawned assholes [25]
In that short time, PrincessChaenggu had become one of the dead.
