◈ Got a Gallery in the Wild ◈

Chapter 67: The Dead (4)

──────

Chames United pulling off a comeback win was obviously good news, but like I'd said before, I was only a casual fan.

More than them winning the match, what really got to me was PrincessChaenggu escaping from being one of The Dead.

People occasionally came to my comment on a prophecy pilgrimage, but I didn't pay much attention to it.

‘It's weird that my comment became a sacred site too.’

Even on Earth, posts that predicted the future were called sacred sites.

It was amazing that this world not only used the same term, but even had the same culture of visiting and leaving comments.

Was it because they had religion?

Anyway, while the gallery was getting flooded with posts about Chaeyu, I did some chores around the cave.

Evening was approaching, so I prepared dinner and checked on the smoked meat.

Lastly, I checked whether there were any fish caught in the Fish Trap.

Splash! Splash!

There was one fish in the trap. It had only taken five hours to catch one.

It was a fish with an impressive golden color, and it tasted better than the red ones.

‘One Fish Trap and I don't have to worry about food anymore.’

It even tasted good enough that I wasn't sick of it at all. Honestly, saying I was sick of it would be a luxury.

Just a week ago, I'd been chewing bitter Fasting Pills.

The fish were coming in steadily right now, but one wrong move and I'd be back to living on Fasting Pills.

‘Still, it's almost been ten days already.’

Today was day eight. Tomorrow would be day nine.

I'd adapted at an incredible pace thanks to the gallery, but I couldn't let my guard down.

Just like when the Saber-Toothed Tiger attacked, I never knew what might show up, when, or where.

‘Even today, some weird chicken was staring down at me.’

If we'd ended up fighting, that beak might've taken my head clean off.

Once I returned to my shelter, I put the fish into the metal container.

Then I went back up to the river and set up the Fish Trap again.

After finishing everything, I checked to see what everyone else was doing.

“Kyuuu...”

“...”

Wonmo had woken up, and Fast Sloth was blankly staring into space like an idiot.

It was getting dark, so I figured I'd spend some time on the gallery.

[Post title] Mr. Grylls. If you're reading this post, please leave a comment.

I searched to see if someone had mentioned my name, and found that Allfather had made a post.

It seemed to be about the heart, so I commented without delay.

└ [Wild Grylls]: Hello, Allfather. What's going on?

└ [Allfather]: I have good news and bad news. Which would you like to hear first?

└ [Wild Grylls]: Um... the bad news first?

└ [Allfather]: The heart burst.

└ [Wild Grylls]: Sir?

That was a pretty alarming thing to hear. The heart had been fine when I sent it, so how had it burst?

Had it exploded or something?

└ [Wild Grylls]: Are you hurt anywhere? If your heart burst, that sounds seriously dangerous;;

└ [Allfather]: It didn't burst like that. It simply burst in the literal sense.

└ [Wild Grylls]: Huh?

└ [Allfather]: It didn't explode like a bomb. It burst like a balloon.

└ What the hell did you do to make it burst?

└ Did you pump it full of air like an actual balloon?

└ Why would you even run an experiment like that? Dumbass lol

└ Want me to shove a hose up your ass and pump you full of air? See what happens?

└ [Allfather]: Do not. Your colon will rupture and you will die.

└ Holy shit.

└ How do you know that? Don't tell me...

└ [Allfather]: I ran the experiment by shoving it into a goblin's ass.

└ Poor goblin...

└ Of all people, it had to run into this weirdo...

The conversation had gone off on a tangent, but the fact remained that the heart had burst.

So how did I feel about that? Honestly, I didn't care much.

I hadn't given it to them expecting a reward, and it had been a troublesome item I couldn't use.

└ [Wild Grylls]: You're not hurt, right?

└ [Allfather]: No. But I destroyed the item you gave me through my own carelessness, so I would like to compensate you.

└ [Wild Grylls]: It's fine. It wasn't useful to me anyway.

└ [Allfather]: My conscience will not allow that. I can at least tell you some important information.

└ [Wild Grylls]: I don't know if it'll be useful to me, but I'll hear the research results first. Should you post it as a private comment?

└ [Allfather]: It does not matter. This place is full of idiots who would not believe me anyway.

└ No, no, I'll believe you. Go on.

└ For real?

└ Bullshit lol

└ As expected lol

└ [Wild Grylls]: Ignore those idiots and please continue.

└ [Allfather]: To get straight to the point, the heart of the Saber-Toothed Tiger you gave me had the same structure as a Dragon Heart.

I'd heard of Dragon Hearts before. They were basically living nuclear bombs, or something.

They contained an enormous amount of mana, which made processing them a complete nightmare.

Allfather said they'd consumed one, but I wasn't sure if that was true.

└ You're a fraud, aren't you? Does that even make sense? Can you prove it?

└ [Allfather]: Believe me or do not. I cannot be bothered explaining.

└ They can't explain because it's bullshit lol

└ Weren't there only a few people who ever researched Dragon Hearts in the first place?

└ There are plenty of papers. Long-lived races like demonkind and elves kill dragons often enough.

└ No humans?

└ Apparently Kadir killed one alone and used it as research material. No idea after that.

└ [Wild Grylls]: Who's Kadir?

└ He's the Wizard King. Just think of him as a crazy strong old man.

└ Didn't he also defeat the Undying King after killing the dragon?

└ I heard he defeated the Undying King and sealed them away. Nobody knows where, though.

└ Turns out he's storing them in his fridge at home lol

└ Fuck, say something that makes sense lol

Anyway, he was insanely strong. Got it.

Someone like that using the gallery... well, why not?

Heavenly Demon herself used the gallery when she was bored.

The gallery was something anyone could enjoy, no matter their status.

└ [Wild Grylls]: So it's a tiger with a Dragon Heart? Is that possible?

└ [Allfather]: I wonder as well what changes the Forest of Four Seasons has brought about in its creatures.

└ [Wild Grylls]: That sounds ominous.

└ [Allfather]: You may undergo a similar change as well, Grylls.

“Hmm...”

I let out a low groan. That wasn't exactly a positive theory.

Evolution didn't happen overnight.

Still, life had a way of throwing things at you that you couldn't predict.

If anything changed, I'd better tell Allfather.

└ [Wild Grylls]: I'll keep that in mind. Is there anything else?

└ [Allfather]: There is, but it will not help you. I would also like to give you an item.

└ [Wild Grylls]: What kind of item?

└ [Allfather]: Let us continue this over a trade.

Not long after, Allfather sent me a trade request. I gladly accepted it.

It sounded like something important was coming, so I couldn't help feeling a little tense.

[Allfather]: The item I wish to give you is a Subspace Bag.

[Allfather]: It is compensation for the item you gave me.

[You]: A Subspace Bag?

[You]: What’s that?

[Allfather]: It would be easiest to think of it as a bag that ignores spatial restrictions.

[Allfather]: It appears to be a small bag, but it can hold a great number of items.

It was basically like an inventory in a game. I was impressed.

If I had that, my quality of life would go through the roof.

But nothing came easy in this world, and Allfather explained the restrictions on the Subspace Bag.

[Allfather]: However, it cannot hold living creatures, and it cannot ignore the law of conservation of mass. You must bear the weight yourself.

[You]: What about taking things out?

[Allfather]: Simply picture the item you want, and you should be able to remove it easily.

[You]: I understand.

[You]: That alone is more than enough for me.

[You]: But isn't this incredibly expensive?

[Allfather]: It is worth less than the heart you gave me.

[Allfather]: I am offering it because I feel sorry. Please accept it.

[You]: All right.

[You]: I'll put it to good use.

[Allfather]: Thank you for agreeing to the trade.

[Allfather]: If you find any interesting flora or fauna, please give me an opportunity to study them.

[Allfather]: Oh, and I would prefer that you not tell anyone I gave you this item.

[You]: It seems you have your reasons. All right, I understand.

It seemed Allfather had given me the item because they didn't want to cut ties with me.

I needed Allfather's help too, since I couldn't identify the flora and fauna without them.

‘This is like a game inventory?’

The item Allfather gave me was closer to a pouch than a bag.

When I carefully peered inside, there was no bottom in sight, only pitch-black darkness.

I considered what I should put in it for a test, then picked up a rock that was lying around outside.

It was much too large to fit inside such a small pouch. Perfect for testing.

Whoosh!

“Oh?”

The rock slipped into the pouch with ease. Then the pouch became heavy.

Allfather had said it couldn't ignore the law of conservation of mass, and I could feel the rock's weight exactly as it was.

It was an item that maximized convenience, not one that transcended all limitations.

‘Still, this is incredible.’

With this, I could carry the crossbow around. That was the biggest advantage.

Allfather had given me an excellent gift. It would be incredibly useful.

‘I’ll still need to carry the sword and shield myself.’

Heavenly Demon’s Sword was especially sharp. I might cut my hand on it.

The shield might also be needed in a hurry, so I planned to keep it strapped to my back.

I could put all kinds of things in the bag besides the crossbow, so there were plenty of uses for it.

‘Where did they get something like this? Is it magic too?’

I wanted to ask Allfather, but they'd asked me not to talk about this if possible.

I didn't know why, but it was probably personal. There was no need to press them.

After experimenting with the subspace pouch for a while, I smiled with satisfaction.

‘At least I won't be short on hands anymore.’

It was a huge haul. The tiger's heart hadn't been much use to me anyway.

I played around with the subspace pouch a little longer before carefully setting it down. If it tore, that would be a huge loss.

‘Time to eat dinner.’

Dinner was the fish I'd just caught. A golden fish with a remarkably pleasant texture.

I'd become fairly practiced at cleaning fish, so I had no trouble preparing it.

‘How long will these keep appearing?’

I stored the Inner Core that came out while cleaning its guts in an empty bottle.

At this rate, I might fill it soon. If I kept eating fish, it wasn't impossible.

“Here, Wonmo. Take a bite.”

“Kyuu!”

We ate our fill, and all that remained was cultivation method practice.

Maybe because I'd also taken the medicine Allfather gave me, a strange sensation lingered in my body.

‘The cultivation method matters, but using aura is important too.’

My aura still only wavered like a heat haze. It hadn't taken on any particular form.

According to SwordTasteMaster, reaching Aura Blade was where talent came in.

‘Well, I haven't even been using mana for a month.’

Tomorrow would be day nine. And I'd only started the Inner Energy Cultivation Method around day six or seven.

The days felt incredibly long, but not much time had actually passed.

If I got impatient for no reason, I might only end up further away from my goal. I just had to improve little by little.

Crackle! Crackle! Pop!

“...”

I blankly stared at the campfire's fiercely flickering flames.

Since I wasn't speaking, the cave was perfectly quiet.

Fast Sloth didn't talk in the first place, and Wonmo was simply sitting next to me.

Stroke, stroke.

“Kyuuu...”

When I stroked his head, Wonmo purred and leaned against me.

Fast Sloth had somehow climbed onto my back. Strangely, it didn't feel heavy at all.

I logged onto the gallery like that. There wasn't anything else to do, so I might as well look through it.

Maybe that would ease this oddly gloomy feeling.

[Post title] Know why we keep losing?

[Author] SuspiciouslySo

[Post] (A photo of a man smacking his forehead)

[Post] Because we played a game!

└ Hahaha

└ A sage! A sage has appeared!

└ Did the Losers lose again?

└ [SuspiciouslySo]: We could've won, but we lost to a walk-off home run. I seriously want to beat them all with a bat lol

└ Lol, this is why we watch sports.

The gallery, which Chaeyu had taken over, was now filled with new members of The Dead.

I snickered at that for a moment, then something occurred to me.

‘Does time pass the same way in every world?’

The gallery was full of people for whom day and night had no shared distinction. That made the concept of time confusing.

Even within one world, time would differ by region. If it was daytime somewhere, it would be night elsewhere.

‘No need... to ask. What good would asking do me?’

The Forest of Four Seasons mattered more to me.

I browsed through a few things on the gallery before quietly closing it.

Running the cultivation method one more time was better than wandering around the gallery for no reason.

‘I should try to keep the cultivation method running during my daily routine too.’

Another eventful day came to an end.
