Chapter 71: Lunar Eclipse (9)
──────
Lunar Eclipse.
It was considered one of the more important events from the early part of the original story.
The point where the New Kingdom began acting in earnest, triggering conflict between humans and vampires.
‘After Lunar Eclipse, the game's mood got a whole lot darker...’
It was the first event in the story to cause casualties in the thousands.
Later, it also laid the groundwork for the Fourth Calamity, Crimson Night.
There was no strategy for clearing it.
It was an event designed specifically so players wouldn't clear it.
[Title: How Do You Clear This?]
[Author: Sorry for the Hiatus]
I'm a noob still on my first playthrough.
I've made it as far as the [Lunar Eclipse] event.
But no matter how many times I retry, I can't figure out how to clear it, so I'm asking here.
How the hell am I supposed to beat this field boss??
Jersian <- This bastard is ridiculously strong.
And you don't even get to play as the protagonist. You have to play as some random villager.
You don't have any usable weapons, either.
The best you get is a club you pick up in the corner of the market.
How am I supposed to kill vampires with this? Even taking down a single Ghoul is a pain...
And if you don't stop it before the time limit, all the villagers die, and some kind of war weapon gets summoned.
They all get torn apart alive and dragged somewhere.
The description was more gruesome than I expected. It made me sick...
An Apostle of the Evil God?
Then something called [the Black Knight] suddenly gets summoned, and it absorbs all the villagers' flesh.
After that, Jersian mutters, “The weapon is complete,” and I die too.
The screen turns completely red, and this message appears.

Afterward, the War Colossus sweeps through the area.
I've repeated this whole process God knows how many times now.
If anyone knows how to clear this, please tell me...
[It's normal not to be able to clear that.]
-> Why are you so determined to clear something that was made to be uncleared? lol
[It's one of those common unwinnable events in games.]
-> You can't clear it no matter what you do.
-> Sorry for the Hiatus) You can't clear it?
-> Yeah. Just leave it alone, a cutscene plays for a bit, then it moves on to the next episode by itself.
-> Sorry for the Hiatus) Fuck, I kept hitting retry every time it looked like I was going to fail ;;;
-> How impatient are you? If the difficulty seemed weird, you should've waited a little lol
[GamesToFindBugs cleared it, though.]
-> You again...
-> How the fuck did you clear this one too...?
-> What kind of fucked-up bug did you use this time...?
-> As expected of the GOAT entomologist following in Fabre's footsteps...
-> Sorry for the Hiatus) What the fuck is GamesToFindBugs, you weebs?
It was an event designed not to be cleared in the first place.
Players experienced the episode from the perspective of one of the villagers.
A barrier sealed the village off on all sides, Ghouls filled the streets, and humans were used for the vampires' Offering Ritual.
‘The player isn't even given a proper weapon.’
Trying to resolve the episode under those conditions was absurd.
In the end, the New Kingdom's weapon was completed, and everyone trapped inside the barrier was slaughtered.
That wasn't all. The War Colossus headed for nearby villages and carried out a massive slaughter.
The screen filled with screams and carnage.
Meanwhile, far away at Grandia Academy, the protagonists went about their ordinary lives, unaware of anything.
The camera closed in on them once.
A peaceful everyday life set against catastrophe.
It seemed to foreshadow the disaster to come.
After lingering on Ranne's bright smile, the screen faded to black, and the episode ended.
‘It was an especially important event in Part One.’
Ngme.
(It sounds a lot like neugeumma, “your mom,” but it isn't that.)
Part One of the original covered the first- and second-year storylines.
Though it was only a bridge episode, not even a proper calamity, it had a lot to say.
It was also the first episode to reveal that the New Kingdom and the Cult were cooperating.
‘An Apostle of the Evil God.’
Jersian had called an apostle into the Offering Ritual.
At the same time, he imbued it with vampiric power, creating a weapon wrapped in human flesh.
The players had been shocked too.
[Title: New Kingdom <- Are They Buddy-Buddy with the Cult?]
[Author: I'll Update Regularly]
Why is one of the Four Knights of the Apocalypse popping up here?
They summoned it as confidently as if it belonged to them, then used it as material for Chimera fusion?
It even evolved into a [Pureblood Black Knight] after Jersian's power was added. What is this...?
Were Apostles of the Evil God always able to evolve?
I mean, they're both on the villain side, but I never thought they'd actually join hands.
Vampires were always going on about being nobles and whatnot, so I didn't think they'd even give the Cult or the Evil God the time of day.
They acted all lofty, but I guess it was all talk...
[What nobles are they? lol]
-> Once the Human Ranch storyline comes up, you won't think that anymore.
[Those two had no choice but to be buddies.]
-> The Cult helped them overthrow the old dynasty and establish the New Kingdom in the first place.
-> I'll Update Regularly) Seriously?
-> Yeah. If they'd tried a coup on their own, it never would've succeeded.
-> The king back then was insanely strong. Without the Cult lending them power, the rebels would've been massacred.
-> I'll Update Regularly) How strong was that monster, then?
[They say the old king was among the five strongest vampires in history.]
-> The setting book says SS- Rank.
-> Probably strong enough to beat three Javerts at once.
-> I'll Update Regularly) How monstrous must the old king have been to beat three Javerts?
-> I'll Update Regularly) And the New Kingdom defeated something like that?
-> Yeah. It's assumed they made some kind of deal with the Cult in the process...
[GamesToFindBugs himself cleared it.]
-> This is a story analysis post. What did he clear this time?
-> Sigh... The GOAT primate who even clears analyses.
-> You again...
-> Those crazy fucking GamesToFindBugs fanboys are at it again.
Lunar Eclipse.
A turning point of that much importance to vampires.
But it had become something that never happened.
“Well... I got all the people out.”
I threw the words at him mockingly.
I had spirited away every offering meant for the ritual.
No news came from the cathedral where the Black Knight should have awakened.
Wiping the blood from my mask, I looked down at Jersian sprawled helplessly on the ground.
“How does it feel? Having your plan wiped out so completely?”
“......”
The deep night sky.
There was no moon in the black sky.
During a Lunar Eclipse, it was the time of year when divinity was at its weakest.
Though the moon was hidden by the continent's shadow, the disaster the vampires wanted never came.
“That war weapon of yours, it was over before you even got to use it.”
The Pureblood Black Knight.
A field boss that should have claimed thousands of lives.
But because I stepped in, it had become something that never happened.
“Well? Thoughts?”
Tap, tap.
I lightly tapped his face with the baseball bat I held out.
Seeing that stupid expression, my fingers tightened without thinking.
“I told you, I'm curious. Care to answer?”
Smack! Thud!
Blood splattered across the mask I had only just cleaned.
Who knew repetitive work could be this rewarding?
I smiled brightly.
“How does it feel to put on such a grand show, only to slip flat on your face?”
“How... did you...?”
“How did I what?”
“Our... urk, plan... The Offering Ritual, how...?”
“Ah, you're asking how I knew about your plan?”
It seemed to have come as quite a shock.
Even as bloody foam bubbled from his mouth, Jersian trembled as he asked.
I brought the bat down hard once more as I answered.
“Why would I tell you that?”
“......”
“Don't you have a mother? Go home and ask her.”
“How... dare...”
“Shut up.”
Smack!
I swung the bat at him a few more times.
Jersian only twitched weakly.
Maybe because all his limbs had been cut off, he couldn't resist at all.
“Phew...”
That should have been enough revenge for our princess.
I lowered the blood-soaked bat.
“Activate. Gloves.”
The pitch-black bat melted away and wrapped around my hands.
Afterward, Wriggler was neatly put away.
The recoil was starting to hit me.
‘Did I push myself too hard?’
The motion sickness hadn't gone away since the Nightmare Transformation.
My Agility stat had suddenly ballooned all the way to B- Rank.
My movements had become that much faster, but my body couldn't handle the strain.
It was a problem caused by the rest of my stats being so pathetic compared to one exceptional stat.
‘Muscle pain...’
My entire body throbbed.
I wanted to collapse on the spot, but my shallow pride wouldn't allow it.
I couldn't let myself look pathetic in front of this guy.
I had to make him believe he'd been completely crushed.
I took a deep breath, then gently rubbed my arms, which had gone numb.
‘I can't even move a finger.’
The ultimate five minutes.
The recoil was worse than I had expected.
As I groaned from the stiffness, a dying voice rose from my feet.
“I... lost... To a human...”
Did he hate it that much?
Jersian was even shedding tears of blood.
“Urgh, gah...”
“Don't move. You'll die soon anyway.”
“How dare... I, a pureblood vampire... be defeated by a mere human...”
A hollow laugh spilled from between his crushed lips like a cough.
Maybe he really had gone mad. His eyes had rolled back.
Creep...
Strangely, black mist gathered around us.
No, to be precise, it was rising from Jersian.
As if his life force was leaking out, as if he were deliberately pouring it onto the ground.
‘...What?’
I frowned at the strange sight.
Had Jersian always shown this pattern when he disappeared?
Even I, someone who had dug deeply into the original, had never seen a reaction like this.
“Now... I don't care anymore...”
