◈ My Girlfriend Returned as a Dragon ◈
Chapter 18: Minjun, You’re an Ability User
──────
The Gate we were raiding today was located in a busy commercial district.
Since Gates appeared regardless of time or place, they often showed up in areas like this too.
At least it was a D-rank Gate, which was on the lower end, and the risk of a Gate Break was low, so people had not been evacuated.
“Excuse me, are you Hunter Yoon Minjun?”
“Yes. And you are?”
“I’m Kim Junhwi. It looks like the others haven’t arrived yet.”
Kim Junhwi, one of the raid party members, shook my hand with a pleasant smile.
He had a very youthful face, as though he had only recently become an adult, which contrasted with his impressively bulky muscles.
“Did you have lunch?”
“I grabbed something simple from a convenience store. What about you, Junhwi?”
“I had a hearty bowl of rice soup. Aren’t you hungry?”
“I’m fine. I packed some emergency rations in my pocket dimension too.”
As we made small talk to get past the awkwardness after our brief introductions, two young women and a man soon walked toward us.
Their faces did not have Hunter written on them, but all three somehow had the air of Hunters.
“Are you the Antman Gate party?”
“Yes.”
They were indeed the Hunters joining the raid party.
“Sorry we’re so late. Have you been waiting long?”
“No. We just got here too.”
Once everyone had gathered, we exchanged brief introductions before entering the Gate.
All three were D-ranks in their mid to late twenties, and their roles were well balanced.
Still, there was one unusual thing.
“All three of you are siblings?”
“Yes. Isn’t that interesting?”
“Yeah! Wow, I didn’t know that could happen. It isn’t common for all three siblings to Awaken.”
Seo Yuhyeon, Seo Yura, and Seo Yuseon.
Those three were siblings.
I had naturally met all sorts of Hunters while raiding Gates, but I thought this was my first time seeing a case like that.
“Maybe it’s fate sent down by heaven.”
Seo Yuseon, the youngest of the three siblings, gave Kim Junhwi and me a foxy smile.
If Sia had seen that, she might have muttered, “Is that woman trying to seduce oppa?” to herself.
“If three Hunter siblings are that rare, wouldn’t there have been articles about you? Why don’t I think I’ve seen any?”
That was true.
Now that I heard Kim Junhwi say it, I found it strange too.
If I were a reporter, I did not think I would have passed up such an interesting story.
Maybe it was just a feeling, but something seemed unsettling.
“We did get interview requests, but we turned them all down. None of us are the type who likes that sort of thing.”
As though he had heard that question many times, Seo Yuhyeon answered smoothly.
“Ah.”
“We can talk more inside if there’s time. Let’s go in first.”
“Sounds good.”
Before entering the Gate, we carefully checked one another’s identities in case of an emergency, then put on our equipment.
I also wore the special wearable camera Sia had made for me over my gear before entering the Gate.
Once all preparations were complete...
We began exploring the Gate in earnest.
Since we had not encountered any monsters yet, everyone was still in high spirits and full of energy.
But not long after we set out from the entrance, Seo Yura, the second sibling, came over and asked me,
“Minjun, where did you buy that equipment?”
She had been glancing at me ever since I took out my gear and put it on. It seemed my equipment had caught her attention.
“I didn’t buy it. It was a gift.”
“A gift?”
“Yes. From my girlfriend.”
Maybe it was just my imagination, but the atmosphere seemed to change for a moment.
“Your girlfriend gave you all of that? Isn’t that expensive equipment?”
“I’m not sure, but it probably is.”
“Wow... I want to wear equipment like that too.”
“Your girlfriend is incredible.”
All four of them looked genuinely envious.
Come to think of it, this was equipment personally selected by a dragon. Of course it had to be good.
I had been surprised by its effects myself.
I should thank Sia again later.
“Is your girlfriend perhaps a third-generation chaebol? Or a promising prospect from a major guild?”
“Maybe she’s a famous celebrity. Wow, Minjun, you’re quite the capable man.”
“Oh, no. Not at all.”
I couldn’t tell them the truth, so I lightly denied it.
“What about that wearable camera?”
“Oh, this? My girlfriend gave me this too. She said we should record it and watch it together later, so we can find anything I need to improve.”
Meanwhile, although we had been speaking formally with each other until just moments ago, Kim Junhwi began calling me hyungnim with easy familiarity, unable to hide his envy.
He seemed to be very sociable.
Kim Junhwi was not the only one. The three Seo siblings were similar.
Still, they seemed more interested in the equipment Sia had given me than in Sia herself, though perhaps that was just my imagination.
They seemed to be trying not to show it, but I could feel the two sisters, aside from Seo Yuhyeon at the front, constantly stealing glances at my gear.
They must have liked the equipment I was wearing quite a lot.
‘It feels nice that they like the equipment Sia gave me... but they’re staring too openly.’
No matter how much they liked the equipment, being watched so intently made me a little uncomfortable.
Something was suspicious.
Once I thought that, what they had said before entering the Gate came back to me.
If three siblings were Hunters, regardless of their ranks or classes, I felt like I should have heard of them at least once through online articles or television.
I felt bad for the three of them, but something about them bothered me.
Anyway.
As we continued moving while chatting, a group of Mega Antmen soon came into view.
“Antmen spotted at eight o’clock.”
“Junhwi, let’s dive in together.”
“We’ll provide covering fire from here.”
After discussing the plan briefly, I tightened my grip on my sword for the real battle.
‘This is the real thing now.’
There was nobody beside me to advise me on drawing out the sword’s power, but I couldn’t rely on advice and help even in real combat.
‘Domination. Will.’
Sia’s advice and Rokan’s teachings.
Remembering all of it, I had to draw out the sword’s power as much as possible and somehow grasp the feeling of using Dragon Speech.
Kim Junhwi, the tanker, charged in first. I soon joined him and began swinging my sword.
Kiiiiii-!!!
As the battle began in earnest, the Antmen’s screams rang out.
I swung my sword while engraving the will to dominate anyone in my heart.
Sometimes nobly, sometimes fiercely.
“Wow. You’re amazing, hyungnim.”
At first, Kim Junhwi had been busy blocking the Antmen’s attacks. But perhaps he had found some breathing room, because he casually spoke to me even though the battle was not over.
“You too, Junhwi.”
Kim Junhwi grinned at my reply and ran around even more diligently, blocking attacks. Meanwhile, the three siblings actively supported us from the rear.
Their healing and buffs, as well as their ranged attacks from behind us, proved effective at the right moments.
Naturally, the Antmen were not simply taking our assault without fighting back. But the difference in strength was so great that we were able to finish the battle without suffering much damage.
Once the battle ended, we collected the loot and decided to catch our breath for a while.
“I had a feeling, but they really are Antmen, hyungnim.”
We had not agreed to treat each other like older and younger brothers, but Kim Junhwi naturally called me hyungnim again.
Ah, come to think of it, he had been doing that since we entered the Gate.
“What?”
“Since you took them down so easily, hyungnim, I thought they were just ordinary ants, not Antmen.”
When I reacted as though I did not understand, Kim Junhwi added the comment with a straight face.
“That’s a bit much... Thanks.”
“You can just speak casually to me, hyungnim.”
If nothing else, this guy was incredibly good at socializing.
“Hmm, then can I do that after the raid is over?”
“Sure, if that’s more comfortable for you. The three of you seem older than I am too, so you can speak casually to me as well.”
This time, Kim Junhwi turned his attention to the three Seo siblings.
Just as he had with me, Kim Junhwi spoke to them in an extremely friendly manner.
“We’ll do that after the raid too.”
“Sure, go ahead.”
“Sorry, but I need to take care of something for a moment.”
Whether Seo Yuseon had secretly found Kim Junhwi’s talkative personality burdensome or really needed to go, she excused herself to step away.
“I’ll come too.”
Seo Yura followed her younger sister.
“Since we’re doing this anyway, I’ll go to the restroom too. I’ll be right back.”
Then even Seo Yuhyeon, the party leader, left.
When all three Seo siblings left at once, Kim Junhwi and I, who remained behind, exchanged awkward looks.
“Junhwi.”
“Yes, hyungnim.”
“Didn’t you get any strange feeling from those three?”
Since the three had left, I took the opportunity to whisper to Kim Junhwi.
“A strange feeling?”
I told Kim Junhwi what had bothered me about the Seo siblings.
Starting with the fact that I had never heard of them despite three siblings being Hunters being rare, and how they had stared at my equipment so openly.
Also, perhaps it was just my imagination, but I had a bad feeling about all three of them leaving at once.
“I don’t know. I didn’t notice anything.”
Kim Junhwi seemed to think differently from me.
Had I been too sensitive? Had I read too much into something strange?
‘No, I don’t think so.’
Kim Junhwi said he didn’t know, but I still couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling.
“...”
Maybe because it was a rather heavy topic to bring up during a break, the atmosphere became even more awkward.
It would be a little strange to continue talking like this.
I should just use the remaining time to swing my sword and get a better feel for it.
* * *
A patch of brush around two or three hundred meters away from Minjun.
After making sure nobody was checking this area, the two sisters lowered their voices and whispered.
“What do you think?”
“Hell, I think it’s going to be fucking tough.”
The two had clearly left saying they needed to use the restroom, but they showed no sign of doing that.
Their secretive, cautious gestures and deeply lowered voices.
They looked like villains plotting something.
“When the hell is he getting here? We don’t have time.”
“How the fuck should I know? Maybe that bastard went off to smoke.”
“Seriously. That chain-smoker bastard can’t even hold it in for a moment.”
Why were they waiting for their brother when they had said they were going to the restroom?
Had they not split up in opposite directions too?
“You two are the ones who smoke, you chain-smokers. I quit.”
When Seo Yuhyeon, who had joined them late, said that, the two sisters glared at him with sour expressions.
“A dog would sooner quit eating shit.”
“Still, smoking is a hundred times better than cheating while stringing several people along like you do.”
Seo Yuhyeon raised his middle finger and growled, but the two women ignored him as though it were nothing.
“We don’t have time, so get to the point. Are we robbing them today or not?”
“We definitely are. That Kim Junhwi guy doesn’t look like much, but that bastard Yoon Minjun is a real prize. His equipment was fully set with shiny high-end gear.”
Seo Yuseon wore the expression of a hyena that had found plump prey. Seo Yura then gave a sinister smile.
“Isn’t he less a young master and more a fawn? Looks like he latched onto some rich, gullible older woman instead of getting a girlfriend.”
They had disguised themselves as ordinary Hunters, but the three were actually villains who had been wanted for several weeks.
Their charges were all the same.
Robbery and murder inside Gates.
