◈ My Girlfriend Returned as a Dragon ◈
Chapter 56: I Was Going to Tell Oppa First.
──────
“Actually, I was just about to contact you because I have some news to tell you.”
“What a coincidence. I came because there was something I wanted to ask you too, Rokan.”
We were both surprised by the unexpected coincidence.
“Then please tell me first, Rokan. I can talk afterward.”
“No. I think it would be better to hear you out first.”
“If that’s more convenient for you, then I will.”
After we sat down, I summarized what I wanted Rokan's advice about.
I had not joined a guild because I thought it would be better to remain a freelancer rather than be tied down to one while training my dragon power. But now that I was in this position, it did not seem easy to realistically participate in Gate raids.
I had thought of a solution in my own way, but I was not sure whether it could really be considered practical.
Once I finished, Rokan nodded and said it was a reasonable concern.
“You’re right. Focusing only on training while neglecting real combat isn’t a particularly good choice either.”
“That’s why I came to borrow your wisdom.”
“I’ll have to think about it as well. Now, I’ll tell you what I had planned to say.”
“Yep.”
Rokan had rarely contacted me because he had something urgent to tell me. And judging by his earlier attitude, I had a feeling he was about to make an important announcement.
He was not the sort to act so serious over something trivial.
“I have finished renovating Dragon Sword Garden.”
“You mean...?”
“It means the training ground made solely for you is finally complete.”
“...!!!”
Rokan had mentioned this once before.
But he had not given me a definite answer about when it would be completed, so I had assumed it would take several months at the very least.
I could not believe it had been finished so quickly.
Dragon Sword Garden itself had belonged to the Maple Guild, so I thought buying the dungeon alone would take quite a while.
And renovating the dungeon could not have been simple either, so I had expected that to take a long time as well.
But how had he managed to finish it so quickly?
Seeing my disbelief, Rokan answered my question as though he had read my mind.
“The dungeon contract was settled that same day. There were some complications during the renovation, but fortunately, Shasha helped me. We finished sooner than expected.”
“Sia helped renovate the dungeon?”
It was the first I had heard of it.
Sia had never mentioned the renovation at all, so I had vaguely assumed Rokan was handling it alone.
Though, now that I thought about it, if I were in Sia’s position, I probably would have helped Rokan whenever I had time too.
It was her grandfather’s work, and more importantly, I was the one who would be using that dungeon.
“Yes. She said this was for you, so how could she just stand by and watch? She asked me to let her help whenever she had spare time. Thanks to her, I was able to finish quickly.”
I should thank Sia when I called her tomorrow.
“Since the work was completed earlier, I was going to tell you the news and suggest that we go there together tomorrow to train, if you have no other plans. It’s too late to go today. What do you think?”
“Sounds good. I don’t have any plans, so please call me whenever it’s convenient for you.”
“Good, good.”
A training ground made by renovating an entire dungeon solely for me.
What Hunter in this world could enjoy such luxury?
‘I want to see it already.’
I was already curious about what Rokan and Sia had created.
And knowing it was a space made just for me made my heart race.
The next day.
Before meeting Rokan, I turned on the phone I had kept switched off so I could call Sia.
I wanted to give her my usual morning call and thank her for helping with the dungeon renovation.
Sure enough, when I turned on my phone.
There were quite a few missed calls and messages waiting for me.
I felt bad for the people who had called, but I was glad I had kept it off.
Otherwise, I would have spent the entire night answering calls until I collapsed.
After roughly skimming the piled-up messages, I immediately called Sia.
[Good morning, oppa! Have you eaten?]
“I was just about to. I called before eating.”
[Even if breakfast is a hassle, make sure you eat at least a little.]
“I’ve been eating properly lately.”
I had not eaten breakfast much before, but about a month and a half ago.
In other words, after Sia returned, I had been eating breakfast almost every day.
“Oh, Sia. I heard from your grandfather yesterday. He said you helped him renovate the dungeon?”
[...Huh?]
But.
The moment I brought it up, Sia unexpectedly sounded a little dejected.
[I was going to tell you first, but Grandfather told you before I could....]
I had brought it up thinking she would proudly tell me stories about what happened during the renovation.
But it seemed that, from Sia’s perspective, she had prepared a surprise, only for it not to go according to plan.
Judging by her reaction, she must have been looking forward to telling me the news before I called today.
...I had unintentionally ruined her excitement.
“Thank you, Sia. Really.”
[No. You work hard for me too, so of course I should do whatever I can.]
“Considering everything you’ve done for me already, that alone is more than enough.”
[Stop thinking like that. We’re both doing our best in our own places, right? That’s enough.]
After a sweet conversation that warmed my heart so early in the morning, I ended the call by telling her that I would contact her again after looking around the training ground.
After hanging up and having a simple breakfast.
I headed straight to Rokan’s lair.
“Good morning, Rokan.”
“Yes. Minjun, did you happen to speak with Shasha a little while ago?”
“Yes.”
Judging by Rokan’s reaction, Sia must have contacted him separately right after speaking with me.
“Before you arrived, Shasha told me that she had deliberately kept it a secret because she wanted to tell you first. She asked why I told you before she could.”
Since she had called Rokan to adorably complain, she must have decided to do this from the moment she began helping with the dungeon renovation.
“Anyway, I apologized to Shasha before coming here.”
“Ah.”
I smiled awkwardly.
I always thought this, but Rokan really was a dragon who fit the description of a doting grandfather perfectly.
“Then let’s go see the new training ground.”
Rokan gestured for me to hold out my hand, and I reached toward him.
I expected him to take my hand and Teleport as usual, but instead, Rokan removed the ring from my finger, poured mana into it, and handed it back.
“I have engraved the training ground’s coordinates into it. If you ever need to go there alone, use that.”
It might have looked easy when Rokan did it, but engraving spatial coordinates into an artifact was an amazing feat in itself.
A dragon really was a dragon.
“Thank you.”
“Now, let’s go.”
The moment I put the ring back on, Rokan took my hand and headed straight for the Dungeon Gate.
Perhaps because the dungeon’s owner had changed, there were several small differences from before.
There were a few minor changes, but the most noticeable was a magic circle of a kind I had never seen before at the Dungeon Gate’s entrance.
“Rokan, what is that?”
“Think of it as a magic circle that acts as a lock. It’s in case some bold intruder tries to enter. That ring will act as the key, so if you want to go inside, place the hand wearing it against the magic circle.”
Following Rokan’s instructions, I placed my ringed hand against the magic circle.
The magic circle changed from red to blue, and Rokan gestured for me to enter.
After unlocking it, I immediately walked into the dungeon.
And the moment I entered, I could clearly feel that its interior had changed from before.
The dungeon’s uniquely mystical atmosphere remained, as did the dragon-and-sword statue connected to the tomb.
But there was a definite difference.
“All those swords are gone?”
Originally, Dragon Sword Garden had at least dozens of swords stuck in the ground around the statue, and Sword’s Lingering Will would constantly emerge from them.
Surviving their attacks for three hours had been the original clearing condition for this dungeon.
But the swords, which had been the garden’s distinctive feature, had vanished without a trace.
“I removed them all because they were unnecessary. They were originally used for training D-rank Hunters, so you don’t need them anymore. They were an eyesore too.”
They were not ordinary swords, but swords inhabited by lingering wills.
An ordinary human could not have pulled them out so easily.
Since Rokan was a dragon, he had probably pulled them out as easily as pulling radishes.
“I’m thinking of making a small vegetable garden there later, or perhaps putting something else in its place. Anyway.”
Following Rokan’s gesture, I headed toward the tomb entrance.
The entrance leading down into the tomb was open. Rokan must have taken measures so we would not need to use the dragon sword to open and close it every time. Near the entrance was a portal emitting a faint blue light.
He had probably installed it because going all the way down to the lowest floor was quite troublesome.
Rokan entered the portal first, and I followed him in.
A moment later.
The instant we arrived at the training ground, I could only gape in amazement.
When I had seen it before, it had been an incredibly bizarre and eerie place. But its atmosphere had changed so completely that I could hardly believe it had been that way until recently.
It looked like a flat stretch of land halfway up a massive mountain.
To describe it in more detail, it felt like an eco-friendly sports field built by leveling off a small hill on a mountainside.
There were scattered trees, benches and tables, and even a small cabin, giving it a romantic feel.
A cool breeze was blowing as well, making the place feel real rather than artificially created.
Other than the fact that it was connected to the imperial tomb, it was a perfectly beautiful place.
“It’s so beautiful that I want to come here with Sia sometime. Did you do all this... Rokan?”
“As I told you yesterday, Shasha helped. Since I was renovating the entire Gate, it was not an easy task even for me.”
That was right. Had he not said before that even he, a dragon, could not perfectly analyze the mysterious phenomenon known as Gates?
That was why, when I had been trapped in this Gate before, even Rokan had been unable to force open its entrance and come inside.
...Or were dragons’ standards for what counted as a perfect analysis different from humans’?
From my perspective, if he had not perfectly analyzed the Gate... I did not think he could have remade it this completely.
“Oh, and the scenery you’re looking at now is the view from the front yard of the lair where Shasha used to live. Since we were redecorating it anyway, Shasha said she wanted to make it look like this.”
“Then I definitely need to come here with Sia.”
Sia probably wanted to show me the beautiful scenery she had seen in that world.
I had planned a date schedule while talking with her yesterday, but seeing this view made me wonder if I should change those plans.
“Have you finished looking around?”
“Yes.”
“Then let’s begin training in earnest.”
