Chapter 403: Episode 76: Book of Revelation (5)
──────
The Final Scenario.
As though they knew exactly what I wanted, two dokkaebis in contrasting suits, one black and one white, pressed me for an answer.
[Decide now. Will you die here, or leave with us for the Final Scenario?]
The Great Dokkaebis Huhju and Huhche.
I knew a thing or two about these Great Dokkaebi brothers. They appeared fairly often in the latter half of TWSA.
Still, hearing them mention the Final Scenario themselves... It seemed even the dokkaebis were finally preparing for this world's end.
Just as Constellations and Incarnations repeatedly fought to survive, Streamers also had a story they absolutely had to pass on.
The Great Dokkaebis were now preparing that final story.
―Final Scenario? What are they talking about?
Han Suyeong didn't seem to know.
It looked like the Suyeong of the 1,863rd round hadn't told her about the Final Scenario.
I remembered the Suyeong in the white coat, one like my own. She was too thorough to have overlooked it, so she must've deliberately kept it from her.
―It'd take too long to explain now.
I didn't know why, but she must've judged that not knowing would be more beneficial for the third round.
Thinking of the Suyeong from the 1,863rd round for the first time in a while left me with an odd feeling.
The 1,863rd round I visited had been on the verge of its final battle. Had Suyeong survived it? If she had, what had she become by now?
When I turned my head, Junghyeok was watching me.
―Will you accept their offer?
―Is that even a question?
Junghyeok turned away as though he'd expected that answer.
He looked bored. If I'd said I would accept, he might've cut off my head right there.
The Great Dokkaebis were still waiting for me.
[Your decision?]
"Well, as you probably expected... I won't."
[Why?]
"Because it's suspicious."
[Suspicious?]
"The offer itself is strange from the start. You'll take me to the Final Scenario if I give up the Great war of Angels and Demons... Do you really not know what's missing from that offer? You're Streamers, yet your understanding of my fables is surprisingly poor."
Great Dokkaebi Huhche looked at me as if I were ridiculous, then signaled to Great Dokkaebi Huhju. Huhju nodded and spoke.
[If you accept the offer, we will help every member of Kim Dokja Company here survive.]
Junghyeok and Suyeong looked at me at the same time, surprised by the declaration.
A way to keep everyone in Kim Dokja Company alive and reach the Final Scenario.
"Even the Administration Bureau would tip the scales of Plausibility if it did something like that at will."
[That is for us to handle.]
It might've been an opportunity that would never come again.
A chance to save everyone and reach the Final Scenario.
An offer so tempting that I couldn't even bring myself to refuse it.
Still, my mind was colder than ever.
"Looks like you're getting desperate too. Your offer isn't just that I quit the Great war of Angels and Demons, is it?"
[...!]
"The price would be making a Stream Contract with you. Am I wrong?"
A Stream Contract. It was the contract Bihyeong and I had once made.
The Great Dokkaebis looked startled. I drove home another blow.
"You want to take my fables and use them as your own so you can become the Final Storyteller."
[How do you know that?]
"I won't accept the offer."
[Then all of you will die here.]
"That remains to be seen. You said it yourself, didn't you? That it's a very high probability. That means there's a very low probability we won't die."
[Didn't you see the Calamity in another worldline?]
This time, it was my turn to be surprised.
It seemed the Great Dokkaebis now knew something about the events of the 1,863rd round.
[The Apocalypse Dragon is not a Calamity that a mere Constellation or nebula can stop.]
I knew that too. I'd experienced the terrifying might of the Apocalypse Dragon firsthand in the future worldline. Even so, I smiled.
"Isn't it a dokkaebi's duty to make entertaining Scenarios? You should focus on preparing the broadcast."
As if responding to my words, Biyoo suddenly appeared in midair.
[Baaat!]
[Many Constellations are astonished by your choice.]
[Some Constellations think you are insane.]
[The Constellation Abyssal Black Flame Dragon chuckles.]
[A major player in the sponsorship world has sponsored you with 300,000 coins for your boldness.]
Perhaps because the stakes were so high, even the sponsorship amount was large.
The Great Dokkaebi stared at me with unreadable eyes for a moment, then slowly vanished.
[You will regret this.]
The Great Dokkaebi's figure scattered like smoke.
With that, one sure way to keep all my Allies alive disappeared.
[Your judgment always surprises me.]
Even Surya sounded impressed this time.
I looked down at the unconscious Gabriel in my arms.
Suyeong, who had been looking at her with me, asked, "Kim Dokja."
"What. Again. What is it?"
"You thought this through for a long time, right? It wasn't some pathetic sympathy or a momentary impulse, was it?"
I nodded.
"Then that's enough."
There was a faint note of resentment in Suyeong's voice.
I said,
"You can be mad. I just turned down an incredible opportunity."
"..."
"But if I didn't do this..."
"Yeah, sure. You must've had a reason. Honestly, I thought you'd refuse."
"What? Why?"
Junghyeok answered after Suyeong let out a long sigh.
"That's how you live."
Looking at Junghyeok, who was watching me with his usual eyes, I understood what those two had yielded to me.
Right. This was how I lived.
And it wasn't how Suyeong or Junghyeok lived.
"Doing things this way does suit the fables of that damned Kim Dokja Company. I'm definitely writing about this in my memoir later. Assuming we survive this, of course."
"Think about what we're going to do from now on."
Suyeong and Junghyeok. Two people who were completely different.
It struck me again.
I'd made it this far because those two existed in their own ways. Because, in their own ways, they respected my opinion.
That was why I thought that, as long as I had these two, it was still worth trying.
[Members of the same faction have clashed!]
[Current chaos score: 96]
Sparks were still flying in the sky. By now, the battle within the gray sphere was probably ending as well.
The good and evil who would survive by driving this world to destruction would soon emerge from there.
Suyeong asked, "Are we going to stop that?"
Junghyeok shook his head.
"It is impossible to infiltrate that sphere from outside."
"Then what?"
"We can't stop the chaos score from reaching 100. The Apocalypse Dragon will awaken. Then the First Tail Swipe will likely begin."
The First Tail Swipe.
It seemed Junghyeok knew about that Calamity too.
I remembered the prophecy of the Apocalypse Dragon from TWSA.
「At the center of the hottest hell, a dragon with seven heads and ten horns will awaken.」
「He is the dragon among dragons. The leader of all dragons born from the center of chaos, and the oldest hatred in the world.」
「That dragon will look upon the sky once and the ground once, then strike with its tail. With that single tail swipe, stars will fall and one direction of the world will disappear.」
I hadn't seen that tail swipe in the 1,863rd round. The Apocalypse Dragon there hadn't been fully released. This time would be different.
Junghyeok said firmly, "We have no choice but to fight it head-on."
"I knew you'd say something like that."
Suyeong's voice was hollow.
[Members of the same faction have clashed!]
[Current chaos score: 98]
Only two points of chaos score remained.
The Allies who had arrived nearby approached me.
"Ajeossi!"
"Dokja hyung!"
Shin Yuseong and Gilyeong. I could also see Jihye and Huiwon approaching, leading a warship. Uriel was there too, wearing a troubled expression.
She spotted Gabriel in my arms and cried out in shock.
[Gabriel!]
I handed Gabriel over to her. There was no time for a detailed explanation, so I looked over my Allies first.
"Ajeossi, is the Apocalypse Dragon really going to awaken?"
I nodded. Suyeong barked at them as if putting a unit through drill.
"Brace yourselves, everyone. This time, it's really no joke."
"When was it ever a joke?"
With Jihye's reply, my Allies finished preparing themselves.
Suyeong, Junghyeok, Yuseong, Gilyeong, Huiwon, and Jihye. All of them wore expressions of grim resolve.
Lastly, I looked at the fallen Lee Hyeongseong.
[Members of the same faction have clashed!]
[Current chaos score: 99]
The resurrection of the Apocalypse Dragon was imminent.
[Many Constellations have been seized by fear!]
[The Constellations of the Star Stream are falling into chaos.]
[The nebula Olympus is preparing for the Calamity!]
[The nebula Veda is preparing for the Calamity!]
[The nebula Hongik...]
Something writhed deep within the Island, and the whole world shook. It felt as though the heavens were covered by enormous beating wings. The scenery around us seemed unstable, like blocks forced together incorrectly. Small fables were slowly breaking apart.
As though robbing every Calamity that had ever existed of its name, an immense fable was awakening.
"Kim Dokja. When the Apocalypse Dragon awakens, Constellations will be in the greatest danger."
"According to the prophecy, yes."
"And you're a Constellation."
The First Tail Swipe destroys a direction of the sky. In other words, every star and the context of modifiers in that direction would be destroyed.
Suyeong sneered, "Which direction are you in, Kim Dokja? The east? The west? If you're unlucky, you'll die first."
"That could happen. So before I die, I'm going to try begging someone to save me."
"What bullshit are you talking about? Don't tell me you know the Apocalypse Dragon too?"
Her tone was prickly, but Suyeong's eyes shone.
I decided to live up to that expectation.
"The Apocalypse Dragon doesn't inherently refer to one specific dragon, just as the oldest good and the oldest evil don't refer to specific Constellations. The Great Fable itself is called \"Final Dragon of the Apocalypse.\""
"Wait, then..."
"At this point, it still hasn't been decided who will become the Apocalypse Dragon."
Suyeong's mouth opened slightly.
[Current chaos score: 100]
[The chaos score has reached its limit!]
A chill ran down my spine as the world began to turn black.
A sinister aura that rose from beneath the ground was consuming the entire Island.
[The Dragon Demon Hall has opened in the hottest hell!]
Space shattered with a blinding burst of light.
Then immense shadows emerged, shattering that space.
In this world, there were monsters whose power approached that of Constellations, Transcendents, and Outer Gods.
The apex of every beast species in the world.
Grrrroooooo!
A dragon's howl that froze the mind and body.
The shadows of ruined cities flickered past as ancient Dragon King species, forgotten through the ages, awakened.
[Graaaaaah!]
Constellations struck by the dragons' Breath screamed as they perished.
Hundreds of shadows covered the sky.
The Constellations of the Star Stream were stunned by the overwhelming waves of Status.
Dragon King species, each one approaching the power of a Constellation.
Countless dragons had appeared here to choose the one Apocalypse Dragon that would destroy this world.
[The Great Fable Final Dragon of the Apocalypse begins its story.]
[The Great Fable Final Dragon of the Apocalypse is selecting the dragon of Calamity!]
I looked up at that overwhelming sight and said, "We happen to have a dragon too."
Yuseong looked at me. Beside her sat a dragon covered in thick iron armor from head to toe.
A Tier 1 Dragon King species, the Chimera Dragon.
Thanks to Yuseong's diligent care, the Chimera Dragon had become strong enough not to fall behind most Constellations.
The dragon born in Paradise of the Demon Realm let out a fierce roar toward the sky.
As the Chimera Dragon flew into the air, Suyeong asked, "Do you think that thing can become the king?"
I shook my head. The Chimera Dragon had incredible growth potential, but it was still too soon for it to become a candidate for the Apocalypse Dragon.
"Then what are you counting on―"
"There's still one more."
"What? Where―"
Suyeong wore a blank expression.
Her right hand was twitching violently, as if reacting to something.
The next moment, space split open and pitch-black darkness exploded.
Dozens of nearby dragons screamed and fell. The sky flickered as though it had gone dark, and black lightning struck the ground.
Something emerged from the abyss.
A dragon with noble scales as if crafted from obsidian. His Status was beyond comparison with the other ancient dragons. When his ruby-like eyes gazed haughtily upon the sky, the other dragons trembled and retreated. Each time his wings, fashioned from the darkness of the world, moved, captivating Black Flame covered the heavens.
I looked up at that beautiful, sleek creature and said, "Let's pray that your Patron wins."
The being closest to becoming the Apocalypse Dragon at this moment.
[The Constellation Abyssal Black Flame Dragon has manifested in the Scenario!]
