◈ Spring Never Comes to Stolen Fields ◈
Chapter 29: Yuri (4)
──────
After we finished eating, the members of our Party began clearing up and getting ready to leave.
Cain had told us to meet him at the western gate by nine in the morning.
It seemed he intended to take us somewhere outside the academy.
Hmm... Where would Cain take us?
I had no idea, but I welcomed the chance to see somewhere new.
Raven got up first, gave us a small bow, and left.
Cain was next. He patted his full stomach, told us not to be late, and disappeared.
That naturally left Yuri and me behind.
An awkward silence hung between us.
"Um... Sirius... I should get going too... Have a good... night...?"
She'd been so flustered during the day that she'd slipped into casual speech over and over, but now that we were back at the academy, she was mixing in formal speech and making herself sound strange.
And what was that supposed to mean? The night was only just beginning.
As she turned to leave, I called out to her.
"Yuri."
Her body stiffened at my voice, and she only turned her head back.
"Y-Yeah?"
"You said you'd help me."
Yuri's expression began to crumple.
Forcing a smile, she answered.
"Yeah, right. I said I'd help you, Sirius... H-Haha..."
"Follow me."
I led her behind the dining hall.
Good. This should be far enough.
"Yuri."
"Y-Yes!"
She looked tense.
"What you need to do for me isn't difficult at all. It's actually very easy."
She nodded.
I could clearly hear her swallow.
Hmm. Now that I was actually about to test my Innate Magic in this state, I was worried.
If negative feelings were dominant inside her, one wrong move could make her hate me intensely.
That wouldn't help with my future plans or life here at all.
I decided to ask first.
"What do you think of me, Yuri?"
I crossed my arms as I asked.
"What do I think of Sirius? What do you mean?"
"Just tell me what comes to mind when you think of me."
Caught off guard by the question, she thought for a moment before muttering.
"Sirius is... First of all, I think you're a good person... You seem to have some leadership skills too... and you seem close with Luna..."
She'd been listing things off when she suddenly stopped.
"That's what I thought, but you're completely shameless! You even... even touched my breasts! And you used that to th-threaten me!"
As expected. After what I'd done, I hadn't expected her to think that favorably of me.
It looked like I needed to make excuses for my recent actions and reassure her.
"Phew... Yuri, the truth is..."
Lately, I'd become quite good at forced explanations and excuses.
After spending every day watching Luna's every move, I'd learned my own way to survive.
"Even though you were clearly a man, you were so pretty that I wanted to check whether you were actually a woman!"
I wondered if that would work.
Even as I said it, I wondered if that could possibly excuse touching her breasts, but a thought crossed my mind.
Maybe it would work on Yuri?
She was the kind of person who seemed just a little clueless.
And her reaction was...
"Hauu..."
Yuri's cheeks flushed red.
Yuri, be careful not to get scammed someday.
"Yuri."
I patted her head.
"You don't hate me, right?"
She murmured quietly.
"...You could've just asked."
"Hm?"
"If you wanted to know whether I was a girl, you could've just asked me directly!"
She suddenly shouted at me.
Whoa. That startled me.
"Did you really... really have to do it that way...?"
She seemed to have calmed down again as she cautiously asked.
"I'm sorry. I didn't think you'd tell me the truth. Besides, I'm the sort who only believes what I see with my own eyes and touch with my own hands."
She looked like she had something to say, but soon gave up and spoke to me.
"Haah... What's done is done... But you have to keep your promise."
I nodded as though it were obvious.
"Of course. I don't joke around about things like that."
"So how am I supposed to help you?"
I repeated the question I'd asked before.
"Yuri. You don't hate me, right? You understand my situation, right? You know I didn't have a choice."
"It annoys me too much to just let it go, but I don't dislike you, Sirius."
Good. That was all I needed to hear.
"From now on, you'll help me with my magic research."
"Magic research?"
"It's a spell I developed, but I still don't know exactly how it works."
She looked at me as though she hadn't expected that.
What, did she think I was going to touch her again?
Of course, if it was necessary to test this Innate Magic, I was willing to try a certain amount of physical contact.
"So? What exactly do I need to do?"
"You will kindly serve as the target of my magic."
She frowned.
"How am I supposed to agree without knowing what kind of spell it is? It's not something strange, is it?"
"It won't harm your body at all. I promise. And I guarantee it won't adversely affect you either."
Yuri was still looking at me warily.
But I had no intention of revealing the ability of my Innate Magic yet.
"Ready?"
"Keep your promise."
She sounded as though she'd given up on thinking it through any further.
After all, she might have prepared herself for even worse things to hide her identity.
Since it wouldn't harm her, she agreed to cooperate.
I nodded and began drawing up mana.
Mana started circulating in a spiral.
Mana, gentle as a breeze, enveloped Yuri.
Before long, the spell seemed to be over.
Yuri stood there blankly, looking at me.
"Is that it?"
I had no idea either.
"I guess?"
"What changed?"
Yuri looked herself over, searching for anything different.
Of course, she couldn't find anything that had changed.
Now then. Time to test it.
"Yuri."
"Yeah?"
"Come closer."
She stepped a little closer to me.
I grabbed her hand.
"How is it?"
I carefully watched her face.
"What do you mean, how...?"
Her face rapidly turned red.
Her hand felt hotter too.
"Sirius... what... is this...?"
She seemed unable to adjust to the change in herself.
It definitely felt as though the effect of even my smallest action on her had grown stronger.
Before using my Innate Magic, grabbing her hand might have passed as nothing more than a handshake. Her reaction now was more intense.
Her actions proved it more than her words did.
I could feel her small fingers fidgeting restlessly in my hand.
As her temperature rose, her hand became damp.
Without saying anything, I abruptly shook off her hand.
"...Ah...!"
Yuri let out a cry as though she'd lost something precious.
"Yuri."
"Y-Yeah?"
She looked at me with a flushed face.
"What do you think of me?"
I'd asked her the same question before using my Innate Magic. I was curious how she would answer now.
"Sirius is..."
As she tried to answer, I leaned closer and blew against her earlobe.
"Hoo..."
Her body trembled.
"Um... Sirius...?"
She grabbed my collar and called my name.
Ignoring her, I whispered into her ear.
"Keep answering."
I continued teasing her ear.
I licked it, then gave it a light bite.
Her reaction was so new to me that I couldn't stop teasing her.
"Y-You... ah... Sirius is... someone who protects... my secret... hng..."
Her face turned so red it looked ready to burst.
"...A good..."
Every day, Luna tormented me as much as she pleased, and Celia pushed me around.
Having the upper hand for once filled me with overwhelming happiness.
It had no destructive power at all, but in this moment, I thought my Innate Magic was the best.
I raised my hand and brushed her hair back.
As I ran my hand down her neck along her navy hair, her snow-white nape caught my eye.
"...Person... Haah... haah..."
Her breathing was growing ragged.
I wanted to explore this newly discovered territory.
What kind of voice would she make if I stimulated her slender neck?
"What else? Tell me what you think of me."
As soon as I finished speaking, I buried my face in her neck.
"Hya... Sirius... There... ngh...!"
I couldn't see her face, but her voice alone was more than enough to stir me.
Each time my tongue swept across her neck, her body shuddered out of rhythm.
"Sirius... stop... Please... stop..."
I ignored her words and continued teasing her until, at last, her legs gave out and she collapsed.
Behind the slumped Yuri, I saw a human figure.
It was our Hero, watching Yuri and my indecent magic experiment.
Celia.
She covered her mouth, staring at me with wide eyes.
Wow. No way.
Did I look gay right now?
Yuri was, at least officially, a boy.
Celia with her mouth covered. Yuri slumped on the ground with a red face. And me, standing there in an awkward pose.
Something was clearly wrong.
