◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈
Chapter 18: Goodwill
──────
Title: Newbie's brain just crashed...
Author: newbie
I'm freaking out right now. What the hell is going on??
Out of nowhere, the System went, "Aww, the intruders will be entering through Split Entry~" and shit. A human's coming in first, then Hobgoblins three hours later...
Dressed in women's clothes like that, she looks less like an intruder and more like some slave bastard...
I'll attach a picture of the human intruder below, so please take a look... T_T
Newbie-chan is dizzy right now, like an oni seeing a Demon Slayer Corps member use Sun Breathing to slaughter other oni...
This isn't some new type of trap, right??
If anyone has an idea, please comment...

└skullbones: What's Sun Breathing, you fucking weeb...
└no_minions_4_me: Split Entry?? It's not an uncommon situation. I don't know if I should call that lucky or unlucky LOL
└dip: What a classy comparison LOL
└golemking: I feel like you're becoming more and more Dungeon Gallery-like... Maybe this kind of newbie isn't bad?
───
An emergency!
It wasn't!
Dreamland had Area 1, armed with a Doppelganger and the Living Maze, while Area 2 was ready despite having no Minions yet.
Even though Dreamland was still unfinished, stupid Hobgoblins could no longer even be counted as intruders.
For me, who needed to gather Points to complete Area 2, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
It wasn't. It was just an ordinary opportunity.
└no_minions_4_me: This happens sometimes. Basically, intruders can't enter the dungeon right away. They sleep in some unidentified space until the Wave starts, then wake up all at once. That's official Dungeon Gallery info.
└no_minions_4_me: The Wave cycle is one week, right? That means a week passes outside before they enter the dungeon too, right?
└ newbie: Yeah, that's right.
no_minions_4_me: Split Entry happens when intruders enter in multiple batches. To put it simply, if one entered the dungeon three days ago and another entered five days ago, the dungeon summons them in order. Something like that.
└ newbie: Okay, okay. Got it.
So that was it.
The human had entered Dreamland three hours before the Hobgoblins, which had caused this.
└no_minions_4_me: But why?
└ newbie: Huh?
└ no_minions_4_me: They're all intruders anyway. Reading your post, it seemed like you were paying special attention to the human intruder, so I was curious.
Just as I was about to reply to that.
└ psychward_mvp: Wait!!!
└ newbie: ?
└ psychward_mvp: Let me speak for newbie's inner thoughts here.
Out of nowhere?
└ psychward_mvp: Humans don't live in the Lowjinrat Great Mountain Range. Last time, the Dark Mages visited Dreamland because the Manticore was an unexpected variable, but this time the situation is completely different! So perhaps our newbie is wondering why this human is in the Lowjinrat Great Mountain Range, and whether the dungeon's information was leaked outside by the intruders who escaped last time!?
└ psychward_mvp: The author guesses that this is why newbie is interested in the human. For reference, I'm currently pursuing a doctorate in newbie studies at Dungeon University, so I don't accept objections or questions. Right, newbie? Hehe.
└ humanluvr: I'm a doctor of newbie studies too, and that's not it.
└ psychward_mvp: Shut up.
└ newbie: LOL...;;
Well, psychward_mvp's words weren't completely wrong.
I was curious about that woman's identity, and there was a chance I could get useful information out of her.
Unlike the Manticore and the Dark Mages, she didn't seem hostile.
Usually, even dumb Trolls followed the unspoken rule of bringing at least one weapon when they invaded a dungeon. But this woman, battered to hell and covered in dirt, looked more like a fugitive than an explorer.
└ magichero: N-n-n-n-newbie...
└ newbie: Yes! I replied!
└ magichero: N-n-no, I mean, could you perhaps take a zoomed-in picture...? I can tell whether it's a trap or not... I'm sorry if I'm overstepping...
└ newbie: N-n-n-no, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could...
magichero played a loser persona, but the Veterans considered magichero the most knowledgeable person in the Dungeon Gallery when it came to magic.
I took a screenshot of the surveillance monitor and posted it as it was.
└ magichero: Th-th-th-they aren't pulling any tricks. They aren't even a mage to begin with, and they aren't under any magic either...
└ newbie: Thank you for letting me know...
└ magichero: Hehe...
└ no_minions_4_me: Then it's very likely she entered the dungeon while running away.
└ dip: I've seen people like that from time to time too.
Hmm.
Could she have been running from the Hobgoblins?
A dungeon was definitely terrifying from an outsider's perspective.
Still, it was also a shelter where someone could hide from immediate danger.
If she had been in a desperate situation, it wasn't impossible.
└ humanluvr: Newbie, do you want to save that woman? I'm a professor of newbie psychology and newbie ontology.
└ newbie: Hehe...
└ humanluvr: If you aren't going to get information out of her and kill her, honestly, talking to her isn't a very good option either. But I'll ask anyway!
As expected, humanluvr was quick to catch on.
└ newbie: I think if I get something from her, I should give her something in return.
└ humanluvr: That bitch is a South Kingdom Constable. She could tell the humans everything about you later. We don't know how this could come back to hurt you.
└ humanluvr: If you had some means like brainwashing, I'd let you do whatever you wanted. But right now? I don't know. You need to gather Points too, so is there any reason to keep her alive?
└ no_minions_4_me: How did you know she's a Constable?? That's kind of creepy??
└ golemking: Looking closer, there's a mark on her right shoulder, though her clothes are torn.
└ dip: As expected, humanluvr's observation skills are fucking god-tier...
└ humanluvr: The whole world is our enemy. I do like that newbie is a good person, but... if you get hurt because of that someday, I'd really hate it...
└ humanluvr: And we haven't even confirmed whether the dungeon is dangerous to you or not... Honestly, I don't like this.
humanluvr had a point too.
As a Dungeon Master, her opinion was probably the correct one.
She must have decades' worth of experience as a Dungeon Master, and there was no denying that her reasoning was sound.
But.
How should I put this?
└ newbie: I don't want to kill someone who isn't hostile to me.
I just felt that way.
└ newbie: She could be a good person, right? I can't do anything about the maze as far as traps go, but Area 2 hasn't been activated yet, so I can clear it out. If I deliver her quickly with Vroom-Vroom, it might be fine. And I don't plan to let her into the Core Room. I'll tell her to stay put in Area 2.
└ newbie: And if things go wrong, I'll just beat her up... I'm Level 30... I can beat Hobgoblins too...
└ humanluvr: Sigh. -_-
└ newbie: Thanks for caring, Sarang.
└ humanluvr: You can't get hurt. Promise me.
└ newbie: Okay. I promise.
└ no_minions_4_me: Some people are just like that by nature. They say goodwill comes back as goodwill too. I think newbie's choice is fine.
└ golemking: You trust a fucking human?
└ no_minions_4_me: There are decent humans among them too...
└ psychward_mvp: If that's your choice, kid, there's no reason to stop you. Dreamland is your nest.
└ psychward_mvp: There is a way to remove an intruder while they're still considered an intruder. I'll tell you about it later.
└ newbie: But why did your way of talking change?
└ psychward_mvp: I switch when I'm being serious...
└ newbie: Fair enough.
All right, I decided.
I climbed onto Vroom-Vroom.
"Ugh."
Since I was going for a drive anyway, I set Malrang on my lap and slipped a knife into my clothes.
Just in case, I also brought a backpack full of jerky to feed the maze. I had collected it from the Dark Mage's corpse.
It wasn't time for water to start dripping from the Sprinkler yet.
I had to hurry and save her before our Doppie got to show off.
After passing through Area 2, which was still under construction, I reached Area 1.
The Living Maze was hard at work as usual.
"This is driving me crazy."
Trying to find a human in this huge maze made my head spin.
Still, even without the Surveillance Camera, I could check both the human's location and my own through the System. I was also fairly confident in my ability to solve mazes.
Vroooom-
Just as I was about to twist the motorcycle's throttle, huh?

A strange stain formed on the floor.
When I looked up, black liquid was dripping from the Sprinkler.
I blinked.
For a moment, my brain froze from sheer disbelief.
No way.
Was it telling me to go this way?
G... G...
Letters appeared on the floor.
I couldn't help letting out a laugh.
No, maze.
You could do tricks like this too...?
* * *
Restia.
In other words, Dreamland's human intruder, stared blankly at the maze.
She was a rookie Constable from the South Kingdom who had been pursuing Dark Mages who committed crimes.
Not long ago, she learned that the Dark Mages had followed a Manticore into the Lowjinrat Great Mountain Range. She had set out boldly with her superior and colleagues.
Unfortunately, the mountain range was a den of Trolls and Goblins.
While continuing the pursuit after entering the range, she was ambushed by Goblins led by a Troll. Then, as if that wasn't enough, Hobgoblins showed up too.
Now, separated from her colleagues, she had entered an unbelievable dungeon.
Its name was Dreamland.
"..."
Unfortunately, she was a Constable, not a dungeon expert.
"Sniff..."
It was ominous and creepy.
A stark white corridor stretched endlessly ahead.
She had never seen a dungeon like this before.
No, were all dungeons like this to begin with?
Of course, even someone completely ignorant about dungeons knew that once half a day had passed, they could no longer leave.
A crack was still open behind her.
She could leave through it whenever she wanted.
But if she went outside while injured, only death awaited her.
The monsters of the Lowjinrat Great Mountain Range never forgave humans.
At the boundary between life and death.
Standing at that crossroads, Restia eventually crumpled to the ground and burst into tears.
"I never wanted to come here! I didn't want to chase Dark Mages or anything! I just wanted to patrol the city, peacefully collect my civil servant's salary, then grow old and die. How did this happen to me... Sob."
Whether she died trapped in the dungeon.
Or went outside and was eaten by monsters.
Death was death either way.
"I want to go home. I miss my mom. Where the hell did my senior colleagues go...?"
Restia hugged her knees and sniffled.
As she sat there in despair.
Vroooom!
A sharp engine sound pierced her ears.
When she looked up.
A man was holding a knife.
"Eek..."
The figure smiling in front of her looked like a grim reaper who had come to take her life.
Restia's face turned pale.
"Gurgle..."
At once, foam began to form around her mouth.
Thud.
Restia collapsed and fainted on the spot.
"Huh? Hey! Breathe! Breathe!"
The Dungeon Master panicked.
Then the Dungeon Master shook the unconscious girl hard.
