◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈

Chapter 45: Dwarf (2)

──────

A lot had happened in the Forest of Life.

I dealt with intruders, strengthened the dungeon, and did all sorts of things.

Anyway, where there's a meeting, there's also a parting.

Dreamland left the homeland of the Branded Elves I'd grown attached to and settled somewhere new.

That place was Fire Forge.

To put it simply, Dreamland's Position Shift cycle came around, and it landed near a Dwarf city.

Dwarves were exactly what I imagined them to be.

A race of short, sturdy muscle pigs who loved beer, were good with their hands, and were stubborn as hell.

Like humans, Dwarves apparently had several city-states. Fire Forge was a Dwarf nation in the frigid north.

It was something I'd felt ever since becoming a Dungeon Master.

Seeing races that seemed like they only existed in fantasy was pretty fascinating.

Of course, they were still bastards who came here to rape my dungeon.

They were the kind of enemies I'd have to deal with for a long time.

Their faction was ridiculously large, and each individual was quite strong. Normally, I'd have been whining to the Gallery about how scared I was.

Yet Dreamland was stopping the Dwarves with unprecedented ease.

It was all thanks to this Tom and Jerry duo.

Memory removal and information manipulation.

No matter how I looked at it, this was completely fucking broken.

It was a way to make intruders doubt the very information they risked their lives to investigate.

If they had no memories, they wouldn't know what happened inside the dungeon.

In that case, the only thing they could use to make deductions was the information they'd written down themselves. But what if even that information could be manipulated?

With these two Minions, I was confident Dreamland had become an even more troublesome dungeon.

Wouldn't even Blessed Ones have a hard time from now on?

Of course, I wasn't claiming it was invincible.

To truly become invincible, I'd have to make every bit of information gathered by intruders meaningless.

It wasn't possible to completely stop information from leaking out, and the parts the Ink Rat could touch were limited.

Even so, it was enough.

At least, that's what I thought.

By "part," I didn't mean the quantity of information, like the number of characters. It was closer to the meaning of a concept, so let me give an example.

─────

4. An Insect Human sometimes rides the Elevator, but you should ignore it.

▼

4. An Insect Human sometimes rides the Elevator, and you must fight and defeat it.

─────

The Ink Rat could manipulate information in roughly that way.

Let's say an intruder realized their information was being manipulated.

Suppose they thought, "It only changes a tiny bit, right? Then wouldn't writing a fucking long post solve it?" and wrote a 5,700-character information post.

─────

4. An Insect Human does not attack intruders if they remain still. Its eyesight seems poor, so it appears unable to notice intruders inside the Elevator. If you remain still, the Insect Human examines the intruders' bodies from head to toe before disappearing into an unlit corridor.

4. An Insect Human sometimes rides the Elevator, and you must fight and defeat it.

─────

It would be changed through this kind of "condensation."

The information would be adjusted on its own so it didn't contradict the traps and Minions.

In other words, when the Ink Rat said it could manipulate "part of the information," it didn't mean it altered part of what the intruders wrote.

It was closer to being able to partially manipulate the very concept of the Anomaly rules recorded by the intruders.

As I said before, it couldn't manipulate all information.

Some of the information the intruders brought out would probably be correct.

But let's think about this for a moment.

Suppose an intruder took out the correct information that they must not enter an unlit corridor.

What if, in that same scenario, they also took out the false information that the Elevator was meant for multiple people?

Crunch. Crunch.

As they watched their companions get crushed to pieces,

could they truly trust that information completely?

Well, I couldn't guarantee there were no gaps.

The information the Ink Rat could manipulate was definitely limited.

Still, turning an "answer" into a "hint" was incredible.

Intruders might be able to anticipate the Anomalies they would face to some degree.

The important thing was that Anomalies uncovered through repeated explorations could now be reused.

I thought they were excellent Minions.

If someone asked whether I preferred a country mouse or a city mouse,

I'd proudly say, "I like Ink Rats, you fucking bitch."

Oh, and thanks to these Minions, Dreamland was chosen by the Dungeon Gallery as the number one dungeon intruders hated raiding.

What the fuck did that mean?

Title: The results are out for the dungeon intruders hate raiding most.

1st Place - Dreamland

2nd Place - Wallachia

3rd Place - Ant Nest

...

...

There isn't a reward or anything.

But congratulations on being selected.

This is a tremendous honor.

If even we think that way, imagine how the intruders must feel.

I hope you keep being this fucking awful until you're selected as a dungeon Blessed Ones avoid. Yeah.

no_minions_4_me: Up until now, I thought getting brainwashed by vampires was the most horrifying thing??

└no_minions_4_me: I thought humanluvr's dungeon, which makes you kill your companions with your own hands and scream in agony, was the worst, and that feeling would never change...

└no_minions_4_me: But that changed this time. Yeah.

└no_minions_4_me: @newbie You just keep being awesome. Yeah.

└no_minions_4_me: It's already unfair enough that the magic and swordsmanship I trained my whole life don't work on Anomalies, but now you manipulate our memories and the information we risked our lives to bring back too?????

└no_minions_4_me: If I were an intruder, I wouldn't enter newbie's dungeon.

└no_minions_4_me: I'd just keep doing my job and live my life. Yeah.

golemking: Honestly, is this what they call sunk cost??

└golemking: It seems like everyone goes in because they think a new dungeon will be manageable LOL.

└golemking: But when you lift the curtain, there's always hell behind it.

└golemking: If I were an intruder, I'd fucking hate it LOL.

dip: Dreamland really is the most fucking awful dungeon LOL.

└magichero: H-h-h-honestly, I think it's the height of unfairness...

└antqueen: It feels like it's alone in a completely different world. Yeah.

└antqueen: But it can even cause oblivion through Anomalies...

└antqueen: Just what is newbie, anyway? Khehe.

└anonbutcher: It's a unique case in many ways.

└anonbutcher: Personally, I think it's something like a bug.

└newbie: T_T...

└anonbutcher: Of course, I'm not insulting you...

humanluvr: Come to think of it, why did newbie become a Dungeon Master at this particular time?

└humanluvr: Does anyone have an idea why?

└tvhead: I've been looking into it personally,

└tvhead: but even with my supercomputer, it's hard to figure out. Yeah.

└skullbones: Isn't it actually ENIAC, not a supercomputer? LOL.

└tvhead: Want to die?

└humanluvr: I actually have a rough idea why.

└psychward_mvp: What???

└skullbones: For real?

└magichero: R-r-r-really?

└nightraven: Whoa...

└cowhead: What the fuck is it?

└kongkong: Stop teasing us and tell us already, fuck.

└orange★: What is it??? If you're lying, you're banned for an hour, so if you don't know, just honestly say you don't know. Yeah.

└humanluvr: Phew... I never thought I'd have to say this here... It's embarrassing, but I'll say it!

└humanluvr: You see? Based on my long observations, I made a deduction.

└humanluvr: No matter how much I think about it, there's only one answer.

└humanluvr: newbie was born into this world to love me, and this is fate decided by the God of Oblivion, something even a god cannot defy......

You could call it a dungeon ranking contest.

The Dungeon Gallery held polls every so often, things like Top 10 Whatever-Whatever.

This time, Dreamland was chosen as the number one most fucking awful dungeon in the world. What an honor.

Compared to the Veterans, I was still low-level and had very few Pieces.

Still, the most frustrating situation in a game wasn't meeting an overwhelmingly skilled opponent. It was meeting one who played in the most fucking irritating way possible.

I was the kind of bastard who played games in the most fucking irritating way possible.

I didn't need to create the strongest dungeon in the world.

My goal was to create the dungeon no one wanted to enter.

Being selected in a poll like this showed that I was moving toward my goal fairly well.

But my enemies had caught my sexy scent and desperately wanted to become intruders, so I still had a long way to go.

newbie: But the Dwarves' obsession isn't normal either...

└cowhead: Hell yeah, I get to watch a fuckton of live coverage for a while. This is sweet LOL.

└magichero: F-f-f-Fire Forge is basically on the level of a city-state, so...

Maybe it was because Dreamland had landed near a Dwarf city.

They were the largest faction among all the intruders I'd faced so far.

They had been completely destroyed in front of the Elevator during the first Wave, the second Wave, and even the third Wave.

Hmm, I had a feeling the Dwarves wouldn't give up on the Magic Stone so easily.

Dwarves were different from the enemies I'd faced so far.

They were the kind of bastards who would die without hesitation if their leader ordered them to, so they definitely weren't ordinary.

It would be better to stay cautious for a while.

newbie: But guys, the Blessed One bastards seriously can't use Gallery functions inside a dungeon, right?????

└orange★: Yeah. If you press "Community Settings OFF" in the System settings, they can't use the Gallery inside the dungeon either.

└orange★: If you don't believe me, open the link and watch this.

└orange★: It's fucking funny how they move their fingers around in midair like crazy, then stop the instant Connection OFF is turned on LOL.

【Third Raid Results】

【Author: Chase】

Number of entrants: 12

Exploration results: 11 dead, commander survived, 1 Escape Scroll used.

▼ I

The third raid party was sent in, but there were no major gains.

Based on the surviving commander's journal, it seemed they had been blocked in front of the suspicious machine called an "Elevator," just like the second raid party.

The third raid party entered with a Dungeon Walkthrough.

The Dungeon Walkthrough clearly contained an explanation of the Elevator.

Then why had the third raid party been stopped in front of the Elevator?

This raid party's commander also kept a journal.

Those raiding Dreamland lost their memories of being inside the dungeon the instant they escaped, so documenting the information they discovered was essential.

The journal's contents were ordinary.

They walked down a white corridor and were stopped in front of the Elevator.

Then the raid party consulted the Dungeon Walkthrough and began investigating.

But.

Compared to the second raid party commander's journal, there was one clearly strange point.

▼ Commander's Journal

P.01

The raid party's mood was generally good.

It was an unknown dungeon, but all the members were full of determination.

Through the sacrifice of the second raid party, we learned how to raid this dungeon.

We must do well so their sacrifice is not meaningless.

The Elevator is right in front of us.

We steeled ourselves.

P.02

A raid member died.

What problem occurred during the previous exploration?

We had no choice but to begin investigating again.

The Elevator is definitely meant for multiple people.

We just confirmed it.

It's safer to ride it with several people.

That way, we can respond when we fight the Insect Human.

...

...

P.03

Therefore, the information we uncovered at the risk of our lives is as follows.

1. The name of the machine is Elevator. We must use it to reach the next area.

2. The Elevator is meant for multiple people, so as many people as possible should ride it for smooth exploration.

3. Never enter an unlit corridor.

4. An Insect Human sometimes rides the Elevator, and you must fight and defeat it.

.

.

.

.

.

Chase paused his pen for a moment.

The situation recorded in the journal was contradictory.

If they had the Dungeon Walkthrough and its information was true,

the group should have gotten past the Elevator and headed to the next area.

Yet in the end, they could not make it past the Elevator.

He found that extremely strange.

"Ha, looking at it now, the handwriting is different..."

Chase found decisive evidence.

His pen moved busily again.

His eyes blazed like flames that could drive away the cold.

He had solved Dreamland's mystery.

He had to inform the mayor as soon as possible.
