◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈

Chapter 68: Traitor (2)

──────

There was a term in the Dungeon Gallery called revolution.

It referred to a Minion staging a coup against their Dungeon Master out of some sort of dissatisfaction.

Most Dungeon Masters died at the hands of intruders.

Still, some had died in revolutions.

One of them was dragonbrat.

op_ghost: newbie, have you ever read dragonbrat's post?

└ newbie: I saw the post about Helpers when Max came in before.

└ op_ghost: You asked what that dragon bastard was, right?

└ op_ghost: His name is Dragrade, and he was dragonbrat's Minion.

└ op_ghost: An ungrateful bastard who repaid kindness with betrayal.

└ op_ghost: Seeing him again like this makes me fucking furious lol

└ op_ghost: Tearing him apart into a thousand pieces still wouldn't be enough.

└ op_ghost: He stabbed dragonbrat in the back, and now he's crawled into newbie's dungeon too?

└ op_ghost: That bastard is a creature that shouldn't exist.

└ op_ghost: Can't we just send an Anomaly outside and kill him?

└ skullbones: That bastard doesn't deserve a peaceful death.

└ skullbones: He needs to die as painfully as possible.

└ dip: Personally, I think he's worse than Julius.

└ dip: dragonbrat raised him, fed him, and even gave him affection.

└ dip: Honestly, that bastard accounts for half the reason I started hating intelligent Minions.

└ newbie: Guys, calm down first;;

A traitorous ally was more hateful than an enemy.

I didn't know the full story, but it seemed Dragrade had built up a massive amount of bad blood.

Their reaction was even more intense than it had been with Julius.

What the hell happened?

└ newbie: Putting the past aside.

└ newbie: As long as he's an intruder, that bastard is my enemy too.

└ newbie: If I can deal with him, I should.

└ newbie: But I can't let the rules get exposed...

└ newbie: Unless I'm certain of the situation, I want to avoid using Anomalies outside whenever possible.

└ newbie: Innocent people could get caught up in it.

└ newbie: And if people somehow figured out how to counter Anomalies,

└ newbie: That'd be a problem too.

└ newbie: Also, Anomalies melt if they touch Malrang's body.

└ newbie: So I'd have to go out and place them myself,

└ newbie: And I'd have to stay out of sight, plus collecting them afterward would be difficult...

└ newbie: Anyway, that's why.

└ op_ghost: Okay, okay... Sorry.

└ op_ghost: I got a little heated...

└ skullbones: Sorry, sorry...

└ skullbones: You're the one stopping the Wave,

└ skullbones: And we're just outsiders telling you what to do...

└ skullbones: Sorry too, newbie.

└ newbie: You don't need to apologize.

└ newbie: I think it's understandable.

└ newbie: Anyway, tell me the full story.

└ newbie: I'm curious why you guys feel that way.

op_ghost replied with a link.

It was one of dragonbrat's posts.

Title: They Say the Axe You Trust Cuts Your Foot

Author: dragonbrat

I'm going to die soon.

You all know this already, but a Blessed One named ahn has almost completely raided my dungeon.

I'm practically on death's door.

Even if I somehow survive, they'll take my Magic Stone, and then I'll die anyway.

I barely escaped the Core Room.

My remaining Minions are fighting hard,

but I don't think they'll last much longer.

Don't ask why I'm talking so seriously.

I'm serious because this is the last thing I'll ever say.

I'm writing this because there's something I want to tell you all.

I should've listened to you sooner.

You said raising a Minion more than necessary was like raising a tiger cub, and you were right.

I thought I'd be different from the Dungeon Masters who died.

After all, I thought of Dragrade as my child.

As you all know, Dragrade and I had been together since Level 10.

I invested as many Points in him as I did in myself.

I gave him love and affection. We shared joy and sorrow, always together.

Because he was that kind of kid, that kind of bastard,

I treasured him and looked after him even more.

Only now do I realize how foolish that was.

Dragrade betrayed me.

The moment things went bad, he joined hands with the Blessed One and tried to kill me.

More than the fact that I was about to die.

More than the fact that my dungeon was collapsing.

The fact that he betrayed me hurt the most.

I don't know.

I don't care anymore.

I'll just think of it as my karma.

It was my mistake, ignoring you all and insisting that our Dragrade would never do that.

Don't create intelligent Minions.

You'll regret it like I do.

Fuck, though, I never thought I'd die before carwash lol

At this point, maybe even Oblivion doesn't know how dungeon life will turn out.

Anyway, thanks for reading this long post.

There's information about the Blessed One ahn below, so check it when you have time.

...

...

Your big sis is leaving.

I'll go say hello to the people who went ahead of me in heaven.

And don't you dare come there. There's no place for you lol

You all better survive for a long time.

└ op_ghost: Nabu told you this before.

└ op_ghost: Don't create Minions you can't control from the start.

└ op_ghost: dragonbrat is the prime example.

└ op_ghost: We may be the creators of our Minions,

└ op_ghost: But that doesn't mean they'll ever act according to our wishes.

└ op_ghost: Minions don't disappear even when their Dungeon Master dies.

└ op_ghost: That's the absolute reason revolutions can happen.

└ op_ghost: When a dungeon collapses, they become free.

└ op_ghost: Well, most Anomalies are kind to you.

└ op_ghost: There are exceptions, of course, like Undead Minions used in Death or Winter themes, or Steampunk automatons.

└ op_ghost: Most Veterans who have survived this long use Minions like that anyway.

└ op_ghost: But if every Dungeon Master did that, why would revolutions happen?

└ op_ghost: It's a rule written in blood.

└ op_ghost: That's roughly why Dungeon Masters avoid

└ op_ghost: human-like intelligent Minions too.

└ op_ghost: dragonbrat ignored that rule.

└ op_ghost: And paid the price.

└ op_ghost: But I don't think it was dragonbrat's fault.

└ op_ghost: dragonbrat was genuinely good to Dragrade.

└ op_ghost: Took care of him like a mother.

└ op_ghost: So of course I'm furious that bastard betrayed his Dungeon Master and is now pulling this shit under some human lord...

...

...

.

.

.

.

.

So that was what happened.

To compare it to my own situation,

it'd be like Malrang absorbing Dreamland's Magic Stone while I was spacing out.

Just thinking about it suddenly made me sad and depressed.

Was this kind of like why girlfriends lose their shit after dreaming that their boyfriend cheated on them?

"Blegh."

Sorry.

I'll stop with the bullshit now.

"Hmm."

A thought suddenly occurred to me.

If Dragrade came to Dreamland himself,

maybe this was fate.

.

.

.

.

.

This was a slightly different matter.

Still, I wanted to give the intruders one last chance.

I also thought I could clear up some misunderstandings by putting up a warning at the entrance.

I didn't know whether it would mean anything.

But maybe it would have some small effect on the people who had been dragged here by force.

With the courage you would use to point a blade at Dreamland,

point it at the bastard who brought you here.

Something along those lines.

Using the Dungeon Expansion Feature, I built a pillar in the center of the entrance.

Then I made a simple bulletin board and put up a notice.

.

.

.

.

.

【A Wave begins】

【Intruders are entering.】

【A total of 15 intruders have been confirmed.】

【15 humans.】

Even so, the Wave continued.

Wolfhauffen's raid party hadn't given up on raiding Dreamland.

Was this their second attempt?

There were no slaves in sight.

One person looked like a mage.

The rest were soldiers.

- W-what is this...?

- Ignore it and move forward.

They were briefly startled after reading the notice.

Then they chose to proceed.

Sorry, but human wave tactics didn't work in my dungeon anymore.

Should I go out and kill them myself right now?

Hmm, no. I didn't want to.

Taking on fifteen people alone would be a burden.

Besides, there was no need. Maybe I'd play a little trick instead.

During a Wave, the Elevator could change its Spawn Zone.

There was a cooldown, of course.

I couldn't move one person, change it, move another person, then change it again.

Still, I could at least split the raid party in half.

I sent ten people to the mansion and four to the maze.

The intruders panicked.

- W-what?

- Why are people missing...?

The mage also seemed flustered.

He stopped in front of the Elevator, at a complete loss.

There was only one mage.

That meant only one group could use Communication Magic.

Once news from the maze team stopped coming,

his expression darkened by the second.

- D-Detection Magic...

He didn't seem completely stupid.

Unfortunately, that was his fatal mistake.

【The door opens】

The mage was at the Elevator by the entrance.

He was concentrating on Detection Magic.

More importantly, he was alone.

"Huh?"

I could use the Elevator too.

The conditions were perfect for taking out the mage standing there with a dumbfounded look.

It wasn't difficult.

Stab.

Thud.

"Well, that's that."

Why had I stayed hidden and kept my head down until now?

Because I was fucking weak.

If an intruder caught me, they'd kill me instead.

Of course.

Compared to Dungeon Masters of the same level in the past, I was still fucking weak.

I barely had any combat experience.

I hadn't invested in traits or Stats either.

Honestly, my level was bullshit.

I was confident that even fifty of me would get utterly wrecked by secha.

But if the intruder was just a regular nameless grunt, I could handle it.

Even I wasn't free from every Anomaly's rules, though.

For example, I couldn't combine walking through a dark hallway during class with taking confiscated belongings away.

So there were restrictions in many ways.

Still, I could intervene like this against weaker opponents.

Anomalies were fair to the weak and the strong alike.

But this newbie wasn't.

Instead of watching the dungeon through the monitor in the Core Room, I checked inside it using the System.

Once Communication Magic was cut off, the mansion team panicked too.

Since they hadn't escaped, it seemed only the mage had an Escape Scroll.

I expected that.

They were fucking expensive, so in most raid parties that had entered so far, only one person had carried one.

In that case, the Anomalies would take care of the rest.

.

.

.

The other raid attempts were mostly the same.

Third raid.

【A Wave begins.】

【The Wave ends.】

Fourth raid.

【A Wave begins.】

【The Wave ends.】

Fifth raid.

【A Wave begins.】

【The Wave ends.】

...

...

Wolfhauffen's raid party threw a total of seventy-five people at Dreamland.

Unlike the Dwarves who figured out the Elevator's rules, they gained nothing.

Farming Points wasn't even an option.

A raid attempt required risking a lot.

Maybe they finally understood that well enough.

I decided to spend the Points I'd earned so far.

I used them on dungeon expansion.

As a temporary measure, I had split Area 3 in half to create Area 4.

Now it was time to restore it to its proper size.

"Restoration complete."

"Blegh."

.

.

.

I watched outside through Malrang.

The raid party's morale had clearly been crushed.

- What in the world is this...?

- It truly is an impregnable fortress.

- Wouldn't it be better to tell the Count and give up now?

Dragrade looked extremely grim.

He had such a serious expression that I thought he might give up on the raid altogether.

- I'll enter next time.

- Then I will join you.

Even so.

He announced the next attempt.

"Well, well."

.

.

.

【A Wave begins】

【Intruders are entering】

【A total of 8 intruders have been confirmed】

【Seven humans】

.

.

.

【One Dragon】
