◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈
Chapter 70: Traitor (4)
──────
op_ghost: Ah, fuck. That bastard got out??
op_ghost: I thought he'd get into the Elevator, but he waited there until the very end;
op_ghost: Looking at this, that bastard's got a hell of a long life. Yeah.
└ dip: Hmm...
└ dip: The further this goes, the more the intruders are starting to use their heads.
└ golemking: Can't be helped when the data keeps piling up. Yeah.
└ golemking: The reason intruders advanced to the next area in the first place was LOL
└ golemking: They figured they could leave whenever they wanted since they had Escape Scrolls.
└ golemking: That's where this complacent mindset started.
└ golemking: I think future explorations will probably go that way too...
└ no_minions_4_me: An intruder who can use Communication Magic waits in front of the entrance Elevator.
└ no_minions_4_me: They record the information the others obtain in a journal, then leave safely.
└ no_minions_4_me: At least that prevents them from leaving empty-handed.
└ no_minions_4_me: Of course, it only works if they're stronger than newbie. Yeah.
└ whaleyeah: Hmm... But didn't this reveal newbie's identity too quickly?
└ magichero: Nonononononono.
└ magichero: Th-they only had two choices anyway...
└ magichero: Either give them information on Area 1, or let them know the Dungeon Master can intervene...
└ magichero: And honestly, the latter has risks, so it's not something they can use often either. Yeah...
└ antqueen: Well, every method has pros and cons.
└ antqueen: Personally, I think newbie made the right choice too hehe.
└ antqueen: You know what they say, don't lose the big picture over a small gain LOL.
└ antqueen: The Dungeon Master's intervention can only be used on weaklings anyway.
└ antqueen: If you save it, it'll just turn to shit later.
└ tvhead: Besides, revealing it forces the intruders to be stronger in many ways.
└ tvhead: It actually puts more pressure on the raiders. Yeah.
└ tvhead: Even if the information gets written down, I think it's still a win.
└ kongkong: But wouldn't fewer intruders coming in be a penalty?;;
└ tvhead: If you're going to worry about earning Points and experience like that, you fucking bastard, just tell newbie to kidnap intruders outside.
└ kongkong: LOLLLLLLLLLL
└ tvhead: Honestly, these fucking bastards should be grateful to newbie.
└ tvhead: If newbie had a fucked-up personality, the outside world would be screwed right now, the Four Kingdoms and Blessed Ones included.
└ skullbones: I feel this every time I watch newbie's livestream, but
└ skullbones: whenever intruders come up with some supposedly new method,
└ skullbones: then act like that kid raising an index finger in a reaction image,
└ skullbones: going, "I've realized it. The heart of the Anomaly!" and all that shit, all my depressing thoughts disappear and I get happy LOL.
└ skullbones: At this point, Dreamland might be my happiness vitamin. Yeah.
└ cowhead: So when the fuck are we seeing the new area?
└ cowhead: Mr. newbie, are you going to turn me into an old man at this rate?
└ sealedconq: They say old cows are tough, so I should bring a meat tenderizer.
└ sealedphilo: Let's turn them into hamburger patties when they die. Yeah...
└ cowhead: You fucking bastards.
...
...
└ anonbutcher: So.
└ anonbutcher: Is Dragrade coming back to Dreamland?
└ dm_disappointed: Personally, I hoped he'd die this time.
└ dm_disappointed: What a shame.
└ worldiscold: Agreed.
└ psychward_mvp: What goes around comes around. Good triumphs over evil.
└ psychward_mvp: He's bound to return eventually.
└ psychward_mvp: Even if it isn't to newbie's dungeon.

I sat at my desk and made a post.
It wasn't anything special. I was just organizing all the information that had leaked so far.
I'm used to digital stuff in a lot of ways.
Doing it like this was much more convenient.
This time, I'd run afoul of Count Wolfhauffen, who had far more influence than Fire Forge.
And arboralis's scheme had spread my bad reputation far and wide.
A lot of intruders might come in.
I figured it would be good to know what they knew too.

Title: Dreamland Leak Summary.txt
【Ink Rat】
There isn't much intruders can do.
【Memory Cat】
There isn't much intruders can do.
【Elevator】
Not a single bastard has died here since the Dwarf.
It's fucking easy T_T
【Maze】
They know it exists.
They know the water rises.
But they don't know the maze's layout changes.
Or how to get out.
【Doppelganger】
They know it exists.
Ink Rat wrote down a fake countermeasure.
【School】
They know it exists.
Class time = Hallways go dark.
Break time = Free exploration.
Lunchtime = Free exploration.
That's about all I wrote.
I'll have to check later to see what Ink Rat changed it to.
【Discipline Committee Head】
They know it exists.
I wrote that they confiscate belongings.
I'll have to check later to see what Ink Rat changed it to.
【Teacher】
They know it exists.
Can't answer a question = One warning is broken.
Warnings accumulate = Death.
That's about all I wrote.
I don't know the countermeasure.
I'll have to check later to see what Ink Rat changed it to.
...
...
The things I didn't write down, the intruders don't even know exist.
They probably know about the mechanic that prevents Escape Scrolls from being used by now, right?
They should know the Dungeon Master despises the weak by now too.

Huh. Looking at it now, they don't know the countermeasures for most of it.
They hadn't even cleared a single area yet.
Seeing it all laid out like this, Ink Rat and Memory Cat really are ridiculous Minions.
I thought they'd have cleared at least one by now, but at this rate, couldn't I do nothing for years and they still wouldn't reach the Core Room?
Dreamland was an expanding dungeon.
Even if they cleared it, I could just make new areas later.
Even Blessed Ones, the only real counter, didn't want to come to Dreamland themselves.
I had plenty of time and leeway.
Even though they'd gone back with information this time, there was no reason to feel rushed.
humanluvr: newbieee!
└ newbie: Yeah!!!
└ humanluvr: Ha... Seriously...
└ humanluvr: Why do you talk so cutely??
└ humanluvr: Why do you keep seducing and flirting with me??
└ humanluvr: You're going to get yourself into real trouble someday??
That caught me completely off guard.
When had I ever done that?
└ newbie: Rape is bad, Sarang.
└ newbie: So why did you call me???
└ humanluvr: How much of a reward did you get this time? I'm curious T_T
└ newbie: Hold on!

└ humanluvr: ????????????
└ humanluvr: At level 110, fifteen soldiers should count as Easy difficulty now.
└ humanluvr: Looking at your level, it definitely should be.
└ humanluvr: So why are you earning this many Points????
└ newbie: Hehe, the mansion is kind of a cash cow.
└ newbie: Think of it as using a money-duplication coupon during a burning event.
└ newbie: It's pretty broken LOL.
└ newbie: Dragrade's reward was nice too.
└ newbie: I considered using it in this Wave too,
└ newbie: but I decided it'd be better to save it.
└ newbie: Anyway, I was going to level up all at once after it ended.
└ humanluvr: Ah-ha!
└ humanluvr: But what do you mean, level up all at once after it ends? The Wave already ended!
└ newbie: LOLLLLL
└ newbie: I can tell by looking into the eyes of someone leaving whether they'll come back in.
└ newbie: Dragrade is the type to come back, so that's why I said it.
└ humanluvr: What's that supposed to be...?
└ humanluvr: Is it an Anomaly trait...?
└ newbie: No, it's just intuition.
└ humanluvr: What the hell is that LOL.
└ newbie: Want to bet????
└ humanluvr: Oh my god, I love that.
└ humanluvr: If newbie wins, we just kiss, and if I win, we French kiss??
└ newbie: What the hell are you even talking about...?
Other than Zeko from the Manticore party, most of the people who used Escape Scrolls wanted to come back in. At this point, I had to wonder whether Dreamland had some kind of irresistible charm.
Was this that peach-blossom charm thing?
The reason I noticed it was that people who attempted Dungeon Raids generally weren't normal in the first place.
There were perverts who didn't get scared when they faced Anomalies. They felt thrilled instead and tried to raid them.
Yuven, Max, and Chase before the mercenary incident were prime examples. Dragrade had exactly that kind of look in his eyes.
Of course, they all trembled and regretted it when they were about to die.
But once they survived, they seemed like the type to come back in again.
There really are a lot of strange people in the world.
"Still, Communication Magic is kind of annoying."
"Blegh..."
The exploration method the intruders chose this time was to leave one person in a safe zone, have everyone else investigate, and write down the information they found.
Communication Magic could be easily neutralized with Jamming, but unfortunately, the Anomaly theme had no Jamming device.
At the moment, I had no way to block Communication Magic itself.
It wasn't like the theme had nothing that could deal with it.
There was one thing I had my eye on, but I'd have to wait a while before I could buy it.
"Hmm. I guess it doesn't matter if I can somehow make them move on to the next area without going as far as Jamming, but it's a bit tricky."
Dreamland had three places that could be called safe zones.
First was the Elevator when only one intruder was riding it. Second was the entrance Passage. Third was the Spawn Zone.
According to the Dungeon Gallery Veterans, Oblivion designated an intruder's Spawn Zone as a safe zone when a Wave began to prevent spawn killing under the System.
Minions and Dungeon Masters couldn't intervene in the Spawn Zone, and traps didn't function properly there either.
Of course, Ink Rat and Memory Cat were exceptions.
Minions with the Closure tag seemed to operate in the space between the dungeon and the outside, anyway.
If intruders were determined to stay in the Spawn Zone, it was difficult to interfere with them through Anomalies.
That was why secha's dungeon, along with other dungeons, only placed Minions and traps after putting some distance between them and the Spawn Zone.
"Maybe it's best just to wait them out."
"Blegh."
So reinforcing the entrance Passage was out.
Honestly, it made no sense that I hadn't suffered any losses so far.
Even as it was, Dreamland was already a crazy dungeon with no conscience.
I should give them something.
The information would be manipulated anyway.
And if they kept coming back in, I could just make new areas.
Go ahead. Keep trying.
"Blegh."
"You ate a lot this time, didn't you? Just wait a little. They'll be here soon."
I stroked Malrang, whose body was swelling.
* * *
Wolfhauffen County.
Dragrade submitted the information he had gathered so far to Count Wolfhauffen.
Count Wolfhauffen's eyebrows twitched.
The results were pitifully meager compared to the sacrifices made.
"Is Railo dead?"
Dragrade lowered his head.
"...I have no excuse. Judging by the circumstances in the journal, it appears he died in the dungeon while taking the lead to calm the soldiers."
Count Wolfhauffen swallowed a groan.
"Then the reason you withdrew the army was..."
"I judged that a Dungeon Raid was impossible with ordinary soldiers. arboralis told us to send as many people into the dungeon as possible to learn the rules of its Minions and traps, but that method was wrong. The investigators need to be at least strong enough to fight Dreamland's Dungeon Master."
The Dungeon Master could intervene.
That was written in the journal.
Strangely, the handwriting hadn't changed in that section.
Whenever information was manipulated, the handwriting changed whether the information was true or false. Could it be that information about the Dungeon Master couldn't be manipulated?
That was why Dragrade was certain Dreamland needed to be raided by an elite group.
At least during the final exploration, he had survived, and unlike the soldiers, Railo had uncovered meaningful information in Area 2. That was what the journal said.
"Starting with the next Dungeon Raid, I will go to the site myself. The Dreamland Dungeon Raid gives us a justification beyond Dreamland's Magic Stone: saving the North Kingdom. It will be easy enough to select Dungeon Raid members from the knight order."
"..."
"Naturally, you will come too, Dragrade."
Dragrade obediently nodded.
"...I thought you would refuse the Dungeon Raid."
Count Wolfhauffen looked surprised.
It was an unexpected answer.
"If Count Wolfhauffen orders it, is there any way I could refuse?"
Dragrade gripped the pendant.
It was a kind of restraint.
A device that made it possible to trust a being born from a dungeon.
Unless he removed it from his body, Dragrade had to obey Count Wolfhauffen's orders.
"That is true, but your eyes are different from before."
"...Are they?"
"Well, they are much better to look at than the eyes of livestock being dragged to a slaughterhouse."
Dragrade touched his face.
He couldn't feel any difference when he looked in the mirror.
"Then let us begin."
"Understood."
And so, they prepared for the seventh Dreamland Dungeon Raid.
