「BigBuffetBoy86: Oh! Are we taking a helicopter to the operation area? I love flying!」

「ProBacksoo: But the helicopter is too small. It looks like a toy.」

「MagiNori: Yeah, are those outside steps for people to sit on?」

「Saebom: Fr lolol. Did the old U.S. military really ride something so dangerous?」

「Don't_NickPun: Yep. This is called an MH-6. It was used a lot by U.S. Special Forces. People sitting on the sides could freely shoot, and it was quick to get on and off, plus the small size made it good for infiltration.」

「MagicalAnimalGirlfriend: Thanks for the explanation, you nerd.」

「MorningChamIsul: Mildeok koongdeok dung-ge-deok koongdeoreorororo」

「まつみん: Oh? A helicopter? This is not okay!」

「YeominROCK: What's not okay?」

「まつみん: Matsumin has acrophobia!」

「KimJongUnIsABastard: Then turn off sensory synchronization. Or just sync some senses.」

「まつみん: I can't do that!」

「KimJongUnIsABastard: Why not?」

「ZzaraPappa: Huh? He's not holding the handle?」

「MagicalAnimalGirlfriend: Oh! Oh! Goosebumps!」

「100MillionDEBT: Hey, hey, hey, hey, this is no joke. If he falls, it's a broadcast accident, right?」

「OpusHomme: Sh...it... haha... cheap connection... haha... sensory block... incomplete... haha... if the connection cuts... he would have... pissed his pants... haha...」

#Intermission, AI’s Mind (2)

Hello, customers. Today is the second session introducing the Trinity AI engine. Did we talk about the TOM parsing module last time? Today, we'll introduce the second part of the Trinity, the search-type AI module.

What is a search-type AI? It's literally an AI implemented through a search engine. It reads all human records on the vast sea of information, the World Wide Web, and finds the appropriate answers for the situation.

Is that possible? Think about how many people waste their lives on social media! The internet holds love, hate, sorrow, joy, happiness, despair, virtues, vices, all human emotions, knowledge, thoughts, memories, and history. All these layers of data accumulated since your parents' parents' parents' generation. We call this Big Data.

The search-type AI uses data mining logic to find desired answers from Big Data, thus creating a persona. In theory, this module alone can implement a complete persona.

Theoretically, that is.

So, what's the problem? The time required for the search.

Implementing a persona is no ordinary task. According to Mehrabian's Law, words only account for 7% of communication! The rest is tone and visual information!

So, when you ask AI a question, it has to find the answer, verify its relevance to the context, search for the appropriate tone and manner of speaking, and even figure out the facial expression and gestures to go with it!

Have you ever imagined how much time that takes?

And the response is still one-dimensional. The human mind, that gets angry at the person who farted, can't be perfectly replicated by mere searches. It can only find accurate answers.

That's why the TOM module is important. It drastically narrows the search scope. It tells the AI specifically what to look for. For users with high TOM grades and compatibility, the search-type module's usage can drop below 10%.

When these two modules synergize, AI will delight you with rich emotions and diverse actions.

Now, why am I saying this again?

Simple. Because of you, dear customers. You call us, not understanding the technical limits, just hearing that a search-type AI alone can create a persona, and complain to us.

Seriously, if that were possible, wouldn't we have sold it already? We're a company that does everything for money.

This always leads to one question. Why is it that when having sex, using the search-type module at 100% gives a decent AI quality and response speed?

Why indeed?

Heh heh heh.

Now, over 70% of the accumulated Big Data is porn. The quality and quantity are on another level. It's easy to find high-quality data. Why? Because you just search by view count, recommendations, or downloads! Plus, the comments have detailed feedback! The search-type module gratefully refers to these opinions. Naturally, the quality is high.

So please refrain from calling us about this issue.

#Journal, Page 59, Santa Maria

Ranger 1st Platoon, entering from the north of the city, successfully rescued survivors in the western part of the city. Including those at the Western Motel, there were a total of thirty-four survivors. Many were injured but none were in life-threatening condition. This is excluding those already deceased.

Someone was furious at them. Ranger Company Commander, Captain Ray Emert.

“My men died saving these trash bastards!”

The civilians were terrified because the enraged captain's hand was on his pistol holster.

I understood his anger.

The civilians were a group of criminals. They had stayed in the deserted city to loot abandoned cash and valuables.

From the start, it was suspicious. Santa Maria hadn't shown any survivor signals for a long time. If it was because they weren't in a position to request rescue? All the survivors were male, and their diverse races made it hard to see them as family. It's wrong to judge by appearances, but they looked and dressed shabbily, with unsightly tattoos. When coincidences pile up, it becomes inevitable.

They were not in their right minds after facing death. When questioned, they confessed through tears. They could have escaped in time, but they hid on purpose to get a bigger share. A search of their belongings revealed some jewelry and drugs.

The captain finally drew his pistol. He was trembling, looking ready to shoot at any moment. Officers dissuaded him. Killing them would truly make the soldiers' deaths meaningless. They'd have died without saving anyone.

Captain Emert couldn't pull the trigger. He kicked the wall in frustration, swelling his ankle. It must have hurt a lot. The captain, without regard for his dignity, groaned in pain. But no one laughed. It was a sad scene.

Before returning, many people came to say goodbye. They asked to be remembered, wished to meet again someday. There were many requests to exchange keepsakes. It was awkward. I had nothing to give. Others wanted to exchange letters, gave me their addresses, or asked me to write their names in Hangul. Some even tried to recruit me to the 75th Ranger Regiment. That was ridiculous. It's not something I could decide.

Anyway, everyone showed goodwill.

I was recognized for my skills.

However, 3rd Platoon Leader, Lieutenant John Frey, had an ambivalent attitude. Because I hadn't followed his orders during the operation. His words were ambiguous, a mix of praise and criticism. Still, it was a warm bluntness. In the end, he gave me a high-end Zippo lighter as a gift. Inside the lid, there was a crookedly engraved string of letters.

「Rangers lead the way. J.E.F.」

When I thanked him for the great gift, he scratched his head and said, "See you again," and left.

I wonder if we will really meet again?

Before leaving, I took a commemorative photo with the Ranger Company. In this mission, that was all Captain McGuire's filming team did. I consoled the captain, saying it was a pity they had no achievements. But he shook his head.

“You don't seem to know, but all the footage the drones captured is recorded. It's not as good as properly angled shots, but it actually feels more realistic. The mission was a huge success.”

I hadn't thought of that.

“It was personally rewarding and surprising. I didn't really believe in you. I thought it was just propaganda. But there really are people like John Basilone in this world.”

It was the first time I saw him smile.

“I've turned many lies into truths. That was my job. But this time, I'm worried the truth will seem like a lie. It's going to be a truly fulfilling task.”

He offered me a handshake, seeing my embarrassment.

“You received the Distinguished Service Cross before, right? This time, you'll at least get the Silver Star. With the footage I'll be bringing, the higher-ups won't be able to not give it to you. Congratulations in advance. My superior won't like it.”

I didn't understand his last words. I asked again, but he gave no answer. He said it was nothing and that I would find out in time.

On the way back, the helicopter passed over Santa Maria.

“Look, Lieutenant, the streets you fought on.”

The helicopter pilot said over the intercom. It seemed he chose the route for me. Partly to hide the Ranger Company's base, I guess.

The traces of the fight were bathed in the sunset. The vivid marks of death, the bloodstains on the road, now just looked like a serene landscape in the warm light. It felt surreal. The 200 meters I risked my life running through. The fierce and brutal scene looked so different now.

The infected mutants were looking at the sky. Reaching out with their hands. Their mouths opened and closed, but no sound came out. Their twisted faces seemed to be trying to convey something painfully, which made it feel strange.

Two helicopters circling twice, crossed the sky with the sunset on the left.

---------------------------= Afterword ---------------------------=

1. Q. WanderingSoul: It looks like special mutants are designated as Alpha grade. Does that mean they'll later be Beta, Gamma, etc., based on their enhancement or mutation level? I'm worried it will just turn into a grade play... Of course, it's just a concern. I trust Tunguska! No, I believe in Tunguska's innocence!

A. Yes, believe in it. There's no such thing in a novel written with innocence.

2. Lately, the author is suffering from a lack of innocence. A movie good for recovering innocence has just been released. I want to watch The Conjuring 2.
