◈ The Weakest Knight Became a Swordmaster, But Only in Dungeons ◈

Chapter 39: Violet Wants to Cry

──────

Violet Blackgarden had a few secret hobbies she could never reveal to anyone.

“Ahem...”

At Griffin Knight School’s girls’ dormitory, Violet sat at her desk, writing a novel in a thin book.

Whenever she wanted to revise something, she erased it with magic and wrote it again. That was how she gradually completed her story.

Writing novels was one of Violet’s many hobbies.

[‘Hasler brushed back his light brown hair. Water streamed down his solid chest and sharply defined six-pack.’]

“Huh?”

[‘As I stared at him in a daze, Hasler suddenly stepped closer and pulled me tightly into his arms. My breath caught, and my heart...’]

“W-Wait!!”

Violet, whose mind had briefly shut down, finally came to her senses and hurriedly shoved the book into her bag to hide it.

At some point, Scally, the skeletal puppy undead servant covered in pink mana, had settled on the desk while wagging their tailbone.

“W-What are you reading out loud!?”

Violet’s voice held both irritation and tears.

[How cruel. Is that any way to treat your first reader, no, your first dog reader?]

“More importantly, why weren’t you dismissed again...?”

[Didn’t Master forget to dismiss me before falling asleep yesterday? I’ve been hiding ever since.]

“D-Did I...?”

[It happens often enough.]

Violet answered with a low groan.

[I knew writing novels was one of Master’s hobbies, but this is my first time seeing the contents. Is it romance?]

“Ugh...”

[Could you show me? As a dog from a former life, I shall give an unbiased review. Ah, no. I will only give one-sided, biased praise, since it is a novel written by my master.]

“No, don’t.... You always say weird things whenever you see stuff like this. Things about... sex, or something.”

[Things about Ron Hazely, you mean?]

“I-I never said it was about Mr. Hazely...! Why are you jumping to conclusions like that...?”

Violet fidgeted with her fingers and lowered her eyes.

Her cheeks were flushed. Embarrassment and shyness gradually seeped into her voice.

[My, my.]

Scally shook their skull.

Seeing that reaction, Scally could not help but think that their master was painfully transparent.

[Well, it is late. Why not get some sleep?]

“Ah... you’re right. It is late. I should sleep.”

She had been so immersed in writing that she had lost track of time.

Violet put the magic tool case from her desk into her bag.

[Are you planning to give that magic tool to Ron Hazely tomorrow?]

“Yes. I think he might need it.”

[How thoughtful.]

“Mr. Hazely and I are comrades bound by fate, I suppose. Something like that.”

Violet smiled softly as she closed her bag.

“So I have to back him up.”

[Hmm....]

Scally smiled knowingly, and Violet narrowed her eyes at them.

“You were about to say something weird, weren’t you...?”

[I have not said anything yet.]

* * *

The first-semester curriculum was nearing its end. These days, the schedule ended once morning training was over.

During the day, in a secluded part of the knight school, I sat beside Violet Blackgarden on a bench in the shade.

We were discussing our next plan. Naturally, we had cast a soundproofing spell as well.

“...Anyway, when the time comes, track the demonic energy. Got it?”

“Yes, I will.”

After I explained the entire plan, Violet nodded solemnly.

Something about her seemed strange.

‘Hmm? She seems...’

Was she not unusually motivated?

The way she kept huffing through her nose, clenched her fists, had a gleam in her pink eyes, and raised the pitch of her voice.

‘Well, the more the merrier.’

I would only benefit if Violet was eager. I decided to let it slide.

“You’ll be staying with your family during the break, right?”

“Yes, except when we put the plan into action. I need to train my necromancy so I can increase the number of obedient undead servants. There are also things I need to prepare....”

I had asked Violet to procure magic tools I could not even dream of obtaining. She was the daughter of a prestigious magic family, after all.

We were comrades bound by fate, united in our goal of slaughtering Demonkin. She was my only friend, comrade, and supporter I could truly open up to.

I cherish you like crazy, Violet...!

“Ah, Mr. Hazely. I brought this in during the last holiday because I thought it might help....”

Violet suddenly set her bag on her lap and took out a magic tool case.

Then, the thin book pressed against the case came out with it and fell onto the grass.

Thud.

Rustle.

It opened to a page around the middle, where a bookmark was tucked in.

“Uh...?”

Violet’s eyes widened.

‘Is it important?’

She looked incredibly shocked.

Without much thought, I quickly picked up the book to hand it back to Violet.

‘Huh?’

Then the writing in the book caught my eye. It was Violet’s handwriting.

- Melancholic moonlight shone upon Hasler. His eyes held only me. “What lovely pink eyes.” Hasler spoke in a low voice that seemed to echo from the depths of a cave as he kissed the back of my neck....

‘Ah.’

At that moment, I realized it.

I had seen something I should not have seen.

Whoosh!

Violet snatched the book away at incredible speed, enough to stir the wind, and shoved it into her bag.

Her face had turned bright red before I knew it. Her breathing grew ragged, and cold sweat trickled down her face.

Her pink eyes trembled and spun around.

“Violet...?”

“M-Mr. Hazely? That just now, um... that....”

“You wrote that?”

“Eek...!”

Violet immediately covered her face with both hands and lowered her head.

“Why is this happening...”

I did not know what had happened, but she somehow looked wronged.

‘Is it a hobby?’

For Elise had never mentioned a hobby of Violet’s.

I was starting to feel excited. I had learned another side of Violet that I had not known about.

‘Well, it is not like I cannot understand something like this.’

I understood. Everyone had secret desires they did not want others to see.

So, out of consideration for Violet, I considered pretending I had not read it, but...

‘...I can’t let this go.’

Violet’s intense reaction was rather entertaining, so I said it plainly.

“Violet, you’re a good writer too.”

Violet flinched.

“W-Well, um....”

“That’s impressive.”

“Ugh...”

“Can I read it sometime?”

“No....”

Violet pleaded while shaking her head, still covering her face with both hands.

Strained groans and hurt little breaths mixed into her voice.

Her ears, visible through her dark purple hair, were bright red. I quietly chuckled.

“Violet.”

“Y-Yes...?”

Violet lowered her hands slightly and looked my way. Her face was as red as a ripe apple, perhaps because she was embarrassed.

“If you ever need material, tell me. I’m confident about that sort of thing too, so ask whenever you want.”

I said it proudly.

The guy sitting in front of you had consumed every sort of movie, drama, anime, manga, novel, and other subculture in his previous life.

“I already have enou...”

“Huh?”

“N-Nothing! It’s nothing!”

Violet reflexively began to answer, then quickly leaned away from me and frantically waved her hands.

An awkward smile filled her face.

‘Was she about to say that I was already giving her enough material?’

Maybe I was imagining it, but was that not likely?

I was probably the man closest to Violet.

‘It is a little embarrassing that it is romance, though.’

It felt as if I were a nude model standing before a painter.

Still, I did not particularly dislike the thought if it was Violet.

A cool breeze blew.

The atmosphere became awkward somehow.

As I silently waited, Violet placed a hand over her chest and slowly took a deep breath.

I seized that chance.

“Author.”

“Ahh...! Please stop....”

At my sudden call, Violet jumped in surprise and covered her face with both hands again.

Mm, what a satisfying reaction.

......

For Elise.

Chapter 1, Act 9, “Special Training Cadet,” and the following Chapter 1, Act 10, “Puppet.”

That scenario had one troublesome condition.

‘Special Training Cadet is the issue.’

This time, Elise would be selected as a Special Training Cadet at Griffin Knight School, which would bring her into conflict with a certain Demonkin.

The problem was that I could not pinpoint the exact location.

‘I have no choice but to search everywhere.’

That was why I intended to rely on Violet, who could detect demonic energy. When the time came, I would search the target area as well.

The danger we would have to bear this time would be considerable.

We would have to accept it.

‘If I became a Special Training Cadet, that problem would be solved right away, but... that is impossible.’

Only cadets who stood out exceptionally were selected as Special Training Cadets.

Like Elise and Lara.

...That was why I had naturally ruled out the possibility.

“Elise Lorendia, Lara Twislope, Ron Hazely.”

In the instructors’ office, Instructor Rachel, who had suddenly summoned me, Elise, and Lara, spoke.

“This time, you three have been selected as candidates for Special Training Cadet. Whether you accept it is up to you. If you do, you will receive a good opportunity at the Rosburn Branch of the Blue Wing Knight Order on the eastern border during the break.”

“Yes...?”

The dumbfounded response slipped out of my mouth reflexively. Instructor Rachel frowned before letting out a small laugh.

“‘Yes’? Now that it’s break, you’ve already let your discipline slip, Hazely?”

“No, ma’am! I’m sorry!!”

Elise held back a laugh beside me. Meanwhile, Lara gave me an indifferent sideways glance.

I could only feel bewildered.

‘Why was I selected too?’

I would find out the details if I listened, but for now, there was one thing I knew.

I could now directly intervene in the original story’s next scenario.

A Word from the Author

2026.09.02

I belatedly realized that Scally was acting out of character, so I revised the content a little!!

Nothing else has changed much.

Thank you for reading!!
