Chapter 23: Omnipotent Godly Doctor (1)

──────

The night I became Bizarre Oddity’s disciple, we had a drinking session for the first time in a while.

Evil Heaven was in high spirits over taking in a disciple for the first time. Evil Heaven went down the mountain personally to fetch a jar of liquor and threatened that we would not sleep until we had emptied it all.

But what was this?

Evil Heaven was a much weaker drinker than I had expected.

Evil Heaven became drunk after only a few cups and began making a spectacle of himself.

Evil Heaven boasted of exploits from youth, then spoke of women Evil Heaven had loved and been rejected by, shedding tears all the while.

Normally, a master with deep internal energy could expel the effects of alcohol.

But Evil Heaven said alcohol existed to make one drunk, then proceeded to make a spectacle of himself. We disciples were the only ones suffering for it.

That was what drinking with a superior was like.

There were occasional amusing stories mixed in.

That was the trap.

“Pfft.”

“Did you just laugh?”

‘!?’

Song JwaBaek had let his guard down and burst out laughing, so he received a fist massage on the spot.

After one eye turned black and blue, he seemed to come to his senses. He tensed up and drank as though swallowing poison.

Even after that, he still let his guard down. He had a long way to go.

The next morning,

I had thought Evil Heaven would be passed out drunk, but Evil Heaven was nowhere to be seen.

He was so self-willed that I simply accepted it.

Thinking it was for the best, I sharpened the Southern Heavenly Steel Sword to soothe its mood.

Scrape, scrape!

The rusted parts would likely need a blacksmith’s help, but sharpening the blade itself was not difficult.

-Hah. Yes. Right there...

This thing had been sulking at first, but now it was enjoying itself, breathing heavily through flared nostrils.

I wanted to tell it to shut up, but I endured for the greater good.

-Ahh. That feels so...

Scrape!

“Ack!”

Ah, sorry.

My hand slipped for a moment while sharpening it.

Still, perhaps because it had been forged with cold iron mixed in, the blade was sturdy enough that it was not damaged.

“What are you doing so early in the morning?”

I turned toward the voice beside me.

Song JwaBaek, whose face was swollen from emptying that liquor jar, frowned as he looked at me.

One of his eyes was blackened too. Tsk, tsk.

“Why are you speaking casually to your senior brother?”

At my words, Song JwaBaek’s lips twitched as he shouted,

“Hey! What senior brother? A difference that small just makes us fellow disciples.”

He had been unable to argue yesterday because Evil Heaven was there.

It seemed he had spent the entire night feeling wronged.

“So who became a disciple first?”

Whether it was half a gak or a full day, the one who entered first was the senior brother.

What was with all the complaints?

“Hey. Are you going to be petty about this? You owe me your life.”

“Ah. A debt?”

“Yeah. You survived because of me, so let’s just be fellow disciples.”

He really did not want to call me senior brother.

“That is true.”

“Right? Hehe. Then we’re fellow disciples. You tell Master.”

I smiled at him.

“Fine. Then call me Lord.”

“What?”

“We made a wager.”

“No. That was practically a draw.”

“If Master hadn’t intervened, you would have crossed the Sanzu River by now. You know that, right?”

“Th-that...”

The Sanzu River was the Buddhist river one crossed on the way to the afterlife.

At my words, he reached for the back of his neck.

His internal injury had not fully recovered yet, so his insides were probably boiling.

“Still, my internal energy was greater!”

“Why are you so pathetically hung up on that? So did you lose or not?”

Grit!

He ground his teeth in frustration.

Still, he did not stubbornly insist that he had won. It seemed he clearly understood that if the situation had continued, he would definitely have lost.

After glaring at me for a while, Song JwaBaek trembled with rage and muttered,

“...Brother.”

“What?”

“Senior brother.”

“Ah... Maybe my hearing’s gotten worse lately. I couldn’t hear you. What did you say?”

“Damn it! I said senior brother!”

Unable to contain his anger, he shouted and threw himself onto the ground.

I could not help but chuckle.

Had I grown fond of him despite myself?

Now, even that behavior seemed cute.

In ten years, he would become one half of the infamous Black-and-White Twin Ghost.

“Damn it. My internal energy was greater...”

He kept grumbling, probably so I would hear him.

-If you had raised the Stellar Star Mystic Art to the third level then, WoonHwi, he wouldn’t be saying that.

Song JwaBaek would have been shocked if he could hear the SoDam Sword.

After all, I had fought using only half of my innate life energy.

If Evil Heaven had intervened even a little later, I too would have raised the Stellar Star Mystic Art to the third level and fought at full strength.

-What would have happened if I had raised it to the third level?

‘Who knows.’

His internal energy was not even equivalent to twenty years, while my innate life energy was at the level of fifteen years.

Innate life energy possessed greater power than internal energy.

I had been pushed back while using half, but if I used all of it, would we have been evenly matched, or would I have surpassed him?

-If you completed the third level, it would have been certain.

As the Southern Heavenly Steel Sword said, I was still only at the beginning of the third level.

Until the third level, one could attain it through the amount of innate life energy and tireless training, even without a great realization. Time was the deciding factor.

But it said that the fourth level was completely different.

From then on, one needed an understanding of ki, so it could take a long time, or be shortened depending on one’s aptitude.

‘How long would it take to reach the sixth level?’

That was the realm the Southern Heavenly Swordmaster had attained.

With only the sixth level, the Southern Heavenly Swordmaster had ruled Yunnan as its overlord.

I had only formally begun learning the Stellar Star Mystic Art not long ago, but it might be one of the greatest divine arts in the martial world.

-It depends on what you make of it, WoonHwi.

‘I’ll have to train until I cough up blood.’

At the very least, if I did not want to disgrace the Southern Heavenly Swordmaster’s name.

-That is a good resolve. With that resolve, sharpen the blade again...

“Hehe.”

At that moment, a familiar voice came from the cave entrance.

“You’re awake.”

Evil Heaven had returned.

Wherever Evil Heaven had gone, Evil Heaven seemed in an even better mood than usual.

“You were born lucky.”

“Pardon?”

“Come.”

“What do you mean?”

As I stood there, unable to understand, Evil Heaven strode over, lifted me up, tucked me beneath his arm, and left the cave.

How much longer did I have to smell this person’s armpit?

Carrying me around like luggage, Evil Heaven began descending the mountain instead of climbing it.

Ordinary people would have been terrified, but I had grown accustomed to it. I asked in a voice as calm as if I were riding a horse.

“Master, where exactly are we going?”

“To repair your dantian.”

“What?”

He could repair my dantian now?

Was that really possible?

* * *

Before me stood a hall with black roof tiles and red pillars.

This was the entrance to the main hall building of Blood-Nurturing Valley.

The Tyrannical Blood Brigade Leader Gu SangWoong, the Squad leaders under him, and the Blood Cult’s official warriors stayed here.

It had been a long time since I had come here.

I had come here only once, when I was assigned to the Blood Wolf Squad.

The two low-rank warriors guarding the entrance were startled by the sight of the huge Evil Heaven and greeted him.

“Hail the Blood! Hail the Blood! H-Hail the Blood!”

After being startled by Evil Heaven, they looked at me with puzzled expressions.

Naturally, they would have questions when someone dressed as a training cadet appeared beside Evil Heaven, one of the Venerable Ones.

“Follow me.”

“Yes.”

I entered the hall behind Evil Heaven.

Inside, a spacious courtyard and a two-story main hall came into view.

‘Hm?’

However, an antique-looking carriage stood in the courtyard, surrounded by six women with their faces veiled in gauze.

Besides the women, twenty mid-rank warriors were also standing guard.

Judging by the atmosphere, they did not seem to be Blood Cult members from Blood-Nurturing Valley.

The people of Blood-Nurturing Valley usually turned pale at the sight of Evil Heaven. The fact that these people did not recognize Evil Heaven at once made that clear.

Tap tap tap tap tap!

At that moment, someone rushed in from the rear of the hall.

It was Hae OkSeon, the female Squad leader under the Tyrannical Blood Brigade Leader.

She had even used a movement skill to hurry over. With a troubled expression, she said,

“Elder, did I not tell you that now was not a good time?”

It seemed Hae OkSeon had rushed over to stop us from entering the main hall.

Evil Heaven shouted irritably,

“Hmph! What is not a good time?”

“Th-that is...”

At Evil Heaven’s question, she hesitated and could not say anything.

Evil Heaven was one of the Blood Cult’s Four Venerable Ones.

A Squad leader was not low-ranking, but she could never defy Evil Heaven from her position.

“Do you intend to stop me?”

“No, Elder. It is not that, but...”

“Good grief!”

As expected, Bizarre Oddity’s reputation had not come from nowhere.

Bizarre Oddity was utterly unreasonable.

Ignoring the troubled Hae OkSeon, Evil Heaven shouted toward the main hall.

“Is the Omnipotent Godly Doctor here?”

‘!!!’

The Omnipotent Godly Doctor?

Only then did I understand why Evil Heaven had brought me here.

‘It was today!’

-Is this the day you mentioned? The day that honored guest and the Omnipotent Godly Doctor would come?

The SoDam Sword seemed to remember what I had said.

‘That’s right.’

Looking back on my previous life, they had come just over six months later, so the timing was exact.

That meant the method Evil Heaven had mentioned to save my dantian was the very method I had planned on.

I had come directly to the place I had only heard about through rumors.

“Elder... If you do this, I...”

Creak!

At that moment, the door of the main hall opened, and two people appeared.

One was the Tyrannical Blood Brigade Leader, Gu SangWoong. The other was a woman I had never seen before.

At first glance, she looked like a messenger from the underworld.

Her face was pale white, her lips purple, and her eyes dark and sharp.

With a face like that, dressed entirely in black, even ordinary people would likely recoil and find it difficult to approach her.

-She looks somewhat old.

As the SoDam Sword said, she appeared to be in her mid to late forties.

Yet perhaps she took good care of herself, because despite the chilling impression she gave, her appearance was beautiful.

Tap!

The cold-eyed woman gave Evil Heaven a fist-and-palm salute and said,

“It has been a long time, Venerable One.”

At her greeting, Evil Heaven chuckled and said,

“Hehe, so you were that honored guest? Even after all these years, you are still as lovely as ever, Blood-Hand Witch.”

‘B-Blood-Hand Witch?’

Once I learned her identity, I could not help but be shocked.

Blood-Hand Witch Han BaekHa.

She was one of the Seven Blood Stars of the Blood Cult, the Sixth Blood Star ranked sixth among them.

In my previous life, it had been difficult enough to see even one high-ranking Blood Cult official. Yet after returning, I had already encountered three.

Once I learned who she was, I instinctively tried to show respect.

As I bent my knees,

Snap!

Someone grabbed the back of my collar.

Thanks to that, I could not kneel.

“What are you doing?”

It was Evil Heaven who had grabbed my collar.

Looking displeased, Evil Heaven shook his head and said,

“I am right beside you, so where do you think you are kneeling?”

“Ah!”

I had nearly made a mistake.

Then Blood-Hand Witch Han BaekHa spoke.

“If he is a training cadet of the main cult, he is only showing the respect he should. Do not scold the child too harshly.”

At her words, Evil Heaven chuckled.

“Who is scolding him? Are you saying that I should let my disciple show respect to someone beneath me while his master is right beside him?”

The moment he said that, the courtyard before the main hall fell silent.

Everyone stared at me with shocked expressions.

Even Blood-Hand Witch Han BaekHa, who seemed as though her expression would never change, slightly furrowed her beautiful brow and muttered,

“Venerable One, you have taken a disciple?”

Ah...

It had unexpectedly become a public announcement.

That I was the first disciple taken in by Bizarre Oddity Evil Heaven, one of the Venerable Ones.

-Wow. You have really made an impression.

The SoDam Sword chattered away.
