Chapter 25: Omnipotent Godly Doctor (3)

──────

The bundles of plaques on the table made one thing clear.

Whether in the force of justice or the force of evil, the most troublesome person to cross was undoubtedly the Omnipotent Godly Doctor.

His connections were terrifying.

“Hmph. You have quite the hand.”

Evil Heaven had been startled by the extraordinary plaques.

But he soon put on an indifferent expression and spoke as though it meant nothing.

He was likely forcing himself to appear unruffled.

“As expected of a Venerable One.”

The Omnipotent Godly Doctor smiled faintly and put away the bundle of plaques he had placed on the table.

The plaques had served their purpose well enough.

The SoDam Sword said,

“At least you’re not making a fool of yourself.”

Evil Heaven's plaque still remained on the table.

Taking it back now would be no different from admitting defeat. Would he really retrieve it?

“Besides, you have innate life energy, so there’s no need to restore your dantian anyway.”

‘That’s true.’

But Evil Heaven still believed I was practicing an incomplete Innate Cultivation Technique.

I could not reveal that I had learned a proper cultivation technique and no longer suffered any loss of vitality, so I had no choice but to let Evil Heaven try to restore my dantian.

“You want to tell him, don’t you?”

The SoDam Sword knew because I had told it.

There was another way to receive the Divine Doctor’s treatment without having to make demands like this.

The problem was that I could not bring it up myself.

“You call yourself a physician. Can’t you help and save a person’s life?”

Evil Heaven spoke in a much gentler tone.

Since brute force had not worked, he seemed to have changed his approach.

Though eccentric and fickle, the old man was exceedingly shrewd. He would use any means necessary.

“A problem with one’s dantian is not an illness that will kill them immediately. How can you speak of saving a life?”

Everything he said was perfectly reasonable.

For a physician, he was certainly eloquent, like someone raised on books and ink.

How would Evil Heaven persuade him?

Thump!

Just as I wondered, Evil Heaven placed a hand on my head.

‘What?’

His palm was so large, it practically covered my head.

The Omnipotent Godly Doctor asked in confusion,

“What are you doing?”

“I said it was a matter of life and death. If you don’t treat my disciple, I’ll kill him right here.”

‘!?’

A chill ran down my spine.

I had never imagined he would say he was going to kill me here.

The Omnipotent Godly Doctor frowned.

“This child’s talent does appeal to me, but if he cannot use internal energy, he has no value as a disciple. Then I have no choice but to kill him here.”

Squeeze!

“Urgh!”

As Evil Heaven tightened his grip, a groan escaped me.

“Does it look like I’m bluffing?”

He looked ready to crush my head if the Divine Doctor refused treatment.

“You mad old man! You finally do something decent, and this is how you do it.”

Evil Heaven was impossible to predict when things did not go his way.

“Will you treat him, or leave him to die?”

Evil Heaven pressed the Omnipotent Godly Doctor in a threatening voice.

The Divine Doctor, who had not moved in the slightest even when accepting the plaque, stiffened with discomfort.

Seeing that expression, I could only marvel at Evil Heaven’s absurd threat.

‘Ha! So this is the scheme he came up with.’

“A scheme?”

It might put me in danger, but Evil Heaven had made a remarkable move in his own way.

Physicians were people who saved lives.

If he refused to save me here, the Omnipotent Godly Doctor would be abandoning his duty as a physician.

It was a stretch, but Evil Heaven’s ploy might work on the Divine Doctor alone.

“Must it truly come to this?”

“Have you ever seen me speak empty words?”

“Phew...”

However, both Evil Heaven and I seemed to have mistaken the Omnipotent Godly Doctor for an ordinary physician.

“What a pity, Venerable One. I heard this is the first disciple you have ever taken in.”

“What?”

“If you truly intend to kill him, do it outside. I am busy examining patients.”

He became even more forceful.

It was as though he was telling Evil Heaven to kill me if he wished.

“That didn’t work at all. What are you going to do now?”

‘...Damn it.’

At this rate, I really might die.

Grit.

Evil Heaven ground his teeth, his face hardening as he glared at the Omnipotent Godly Doctor.

His eyes alone seemed capable of killing him dozens of times over.

Release.

The hand gripping my head loosened.

‘Phew.’

I had been tense, wondering whether he would truly kill me after failing, but fortunately, that did not happen.

Then Gu SangWoong, the Tyrannical Blood Brigade Leader, cautiously intervened.

“Venerable One... The Divine Doctor is busy at the moment, so perhaps we should return later...”

“Is that so? Then the Divine Doctor will not be busy if that child is not behind the bamboo blind.”

“Pardon?”

Evil Heaven turned his gaze toward the bamboo blind.

Since things had not gone as he wanted, he seemed ready to vent his frustration on someone else.

“Venerable One!”

Swish!

As Evil Heaven abruptly rose and moved toward the bamboo blind, Blood-Hand Witch Han BaekHa urgently stepped in front of him.

The two faced each other.

“That’s twice now. You dare stand in my way again.”

Evil Heaven’s thick brows rose.

“Please step back.”

She looked ready to fight him at once.

Who could be behind the bamboo blind for the Sixth Blood Star to guard them so desperately?

No matter how strong she was, Evil Heaven, as a Venerable One, ranked above her.

“Blood-Hand Witch, now that you act this way, I find myself curious about who is behind that blind.”

The room filled with the life energy of the two masters.

It was suffocating.

The situation could explode at any moment.

Then I saw Han BaekHa’s throat tremble slightly.

‘Sound telepathy?’

I had heard that although sound telepathy could not be heard, the user still spoke, causing the area around their throat to move.

Her sound telepathy appeared to be directed at Evil Heaven.

Only moments ago, he had looked ready to fight the Blood-Hand Witch, but his expression suddenly changed.

Then Evil Heaven said to me,

“You, wait outside.”

It was not only me.

Blood-Hand Witch Han BaekHa also ordered the four veiled women guarding the bamboo blind to leave.

As a result, they and I were practically driven out of the room.

“Why are they acting like that? They even told us to leave with serious faces.”

Who knew?

I did not know the reason either.

The only thing I could guess was that whoever stood behind the bamboo blind was likely a person of such importance that even Evil Heaven could not treat them carelessly.

“Someone important enough that even that mad old man cannot handle them recklessly?”

The Blood Cult lord had died long ago during the War Between Justice and Evil, so the Blood Cult should have belonged to the Venerable Ones now. There should not have been anyone like that...

Then my lower abdomen began to ache.

‘Ah...’

“What’s wrong? Are you unwell?”

‘It’s nothing like that.’

“Do you need the latrine?”

‘Maybe I drank too much yesterday.’

The three of us had shared that large jar of alcohol.

“Humans are so inconvenient.”

Honestly. It was a natural bodily function, so what was I supposed to do?

After drinking that much all night, anyone would get the morning call of nature.

Then again, how would a Short Sword like you know?

For six months, I had gone down the cliff every day to relieve myself. It seemed I could finally use a latrine for the first time in a while.

“Where is the latrine?”

After asking where the latrine behind the main hall was, I hurried there.

I urgently tried to open its wooden plank door, but it would not budge.

It was as if someone inside were holding it shut.

‘What is this?’

Bang! Bang!

“Is someone in there?”

There was no response.

‘Seriously!’

I had not wanted to go this far, but I gathered even my innate life energy and pulled on the latrine door.

At that moment, the resisting door burst open.

‘!?’

I had thought no one was inside, but there was someone in the latrine.

“Eh? Isn’t that the fat woman?”

The person inside was one of the veiled women who had been guarding the bamboo blind.

My gaze naturally went to her hand.

I had wondered why she was hiding even her presence and holding the door shut. In one hand, she held a piece of dried jerky that she had already eaten halfway through.

‘...’

“Wow... I have never seen anyone eat jerky in a latrine before.”

It was not just you.

I was amazed that she had the stomach to eat jerky in a latrine that reeked so badly.

Was her appetite really that enormous?

Still, I had a more urgent matter to deal with.

“Are you using it?”

“Ah, no. It’s just...”

The veiled woman panicked, not knowing what to do.

I would have been embarrassed too if I were caught eating jerky in a latrine, but I was too desperate to worry about that.

“Then eat your jerky somewhere else and let me use the latrine.”

“W-Wait a moment.”

“I’m sorry, but this is an emergency. Please come out quickly.”

At my serious words, she had no choice but to leave the latrine as though chased out.

The moment she stepped outside, I shut the door and took care of my business.

It felt as though the alcohol poisoning was leaving my body.

‘Thank goodness.’

It would have been a disaster if the call of nature had come while I was in there.

After finishing, I opened the door and came outside.

‘Hm?’

The fat veiled woman was waiting beneath the eaves a short distance from the latrine.

No, why was she waiting?

There must have been sounds from inside, which made things rather awkward.

Ignoring that, the veiled woman rushed over as though she had been waiting for me and said,

“You are the Venerable One’s disciple, right?”

“...Yes.”

This was confusing. Very confusing.

“Phew.”

She carefully took something from her robe, glanced around, then pressed it into my hand as though making a secret deal.

When I opened my hand, there was a silver coin in it.

“...What are you doing?”

“Please forget what you saw over there earlier.”

“How could I forget that?”

It was firmly etched into my mind. I did not think I could possibly forget it.

At my words, she fidgeted and said,

“I’m trying to lose weight, so I have not been able to eat anything.”

“What about that jerky earlier?”

“That... I held out for so long that I thought I might collapse if I did not eat something, so I only had a little, just a very little. Really!”

“You ate half of it.”

And if I had not opened the door, she would have eaten all of it.

The skin visible through the gap in her veil reddened.

“Ha...”

After sighing, she took another silver coin from her robe.

“All right, all right. You are quite skilled at bargaining.”

What a peculiar woman.

I would have kept quiet even if she had merely asked, so why was she trying to secure a promise with silver coins?

“It benefits you anyway. Take them.”

The SoDam Sword was right.

Two silver coins in exchange for keeping my mouth shut was an incredible windfall for me.

But before I could accept the second coin, someone appeared.

“You should be waiting quietly in front of the main hall. What are you doing here?”

It was Evil Heaven.

He seemed to have been looking for me.

Startled by his appearance, the veiled woman hurriedly put the silver coins she had been about to give me back into her robe. She gave a fist-and-palm salute, then fled.

Watching her retreating back, Evil Heaven muttered,

“What was that? Who is that fatso?”

* * *

Evil Heaven tucked me under his arm and left the main hall. He did not put me down until we reached a secluded forest.

With an indifferent expression, Evil Heaven spoke.

“This has become troublesome.”

“What happened, Master?”

“We have to find something called Hasunbu Seolcho.”

‘That’s right!’

It had been so long that I could not remember the entire name, but it was the medical herb the Omnipotent Godly Doctor had been seeking.

Hasunbu Seolcho.

I had heard it was an unusual spirit herb that only grew in winter.

I remembered that the Divine Doctor had brought an important person here because it grew only in this place.

‘Did he persuade him?’

Considering that Evil Heaven, who had caused such a scene, now said we had to find Hasunbu Seolcho, he seemed to have reached an agreement with the Omnipotent Godly Doctor in the end.

Evil Heaven spoke irritably.

“We have to find it first. Only then can we restore your dantian.”

“What do you mean, first?”

“That damned physician said that whoever finds the herb first will receive his plaque, allowing them treatment whenever they wish.”

Evil Heaven shook his head.

Even for him, finding an herb in the middle of a snowy winter would not be easy.

It was not a matter of the strength of one’s Martial Arts. The side able to mobilize more people would have a greater chance of finding the herb.

But this had nothing to do with me.

“We can just find it immediately.”

I knew where Hasunbu Seolcho was.

Unaware of that, Evil Heaven was in a foul mood because he thought the task had become complicated.

“Damn it, of all things, the young lady had to be involved.”

“Pardon?”

‘Young lady?’

Evil Heaven stared at me for a moment, then stroked his beard.

“Hmph. You alone may know this. If you utter a word, I will kill you, disciple or not.”

‘If it is that much of a secret, you do not have to tell me.’

Was he treating me like a disciple after all?

Regardless, Evil Heaven continued.

“Do you remember someone being behind the bamboo blind in that room where the damned physician was?”

“...I remember.”

I had only seen a faint silhouette, but it had clearly been a woman.

Then something utterly shocking came from Evil Heaven’s mouth.

“She is the late lord’s granddaughter.”

‘!!!’

Good heavens.

The Blood Demon’s bloodline was still alive.

It was top-secret information that I had not known even in my previous life.
