◈ Got a Gallery in the Wild ◈
Chapter 113: Welcome To (5)
──────
I barely secured my dangling arm and returned to the cave.
When I got back, Wonmo was pacing around.
He must have been worried sick about me.
“Kyuu! Kyuu!”
Wonmo enthusiastically welcomed me back despite my injuries.
I wanted to hug him with both arms, but one of them was in no shape for that.
“Wonmo, wait a second. Let me splint my arm first.”
“Kyuu!”
Wonmo answered energetically and stepped back a little. Good Wonmo was such a good listener.
I snickered and carefully lowered my arm. First, I needed to get the shield off.
I’d been injured plenty of times, but this was my first broken arm, so I had no idea what to do.
‘What if I pour Elixir on it without knowing anything and it heals crooked?’
That was what worried me most.
My ribs hadn’t been smashed up as badly as my arm.
It seemed best to immobilize it with a splint first.
Using one arm, I found a suitable wooden board.
I just had to cut one of the pieces of firewood I’d chopped for the campfire to size.
‘Then buy some cloth from the gallery.’
Set the splint and tie it up. Easy enough, except I only had one arm.
“Hey, Mr. Fast Sloth.”
“...”
“Mind holdin’ this a spell? My arm’s all messed up.”
So I asked Fast Sloth for help. It couldn’t tie it up, but it could at least hold the cloth.
Fast Sloth stared at me, then held the cloth the way I wanted.
That let me make a splint with the wood and cloth.
It was only temporary, though. I still needed to use Elixir for it to be properly treated.
[Post title] My arm got smashed.
[Author] Wild Grylls
[Post] (Photo of arm in a splint)
[Post] I fought Chief Gorilla and got my arm smashed. Good thing Chief Gorilla spared me, or I would’ve died lol.
[Post] Also, can I pour Elixir over my arm now? I put it in a splint first because I was worried the bones might heal crooked.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: Was the monkey strong?
└ [Wild Grylls]: It was ridiculously strong. My arm broke even though I blocked with my shield. It didn’t even punch me. It just touched the shield.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: Your arm broke from it just touching you?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Yeah. It literally just lightly touched it.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: It can even use Penetrating Force. Its attainment must be considerable. I did not expect that.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Also, I slashed at it with my sword, but it disappeared like a mirage and appeared right behind me.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: Shifting Form and Position as well? How remarkable. It showed you mercy.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: You’re really lucky to be alive. If that gorilla had gone all out, you would have died in less than a second.
└ [Wild Grylls]: I even ambushed it, but it blocked my sword with just its fingers. That’s when I knew I was fucked.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: How many fingers did it use?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Three.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: It probably used three because it was you, Mr. Grylls. Normally, it would have blocked it with one.
└ [Wild Grylls]: It probably saw how effective the sword Heavenly Demon gave me was.
└ What kind of gorilla uses Penetrating Force and Shifting Form and Position? I won’t believe it until I see it ;;
└ It talks like a person, so why not?
└ Honestly, this sounds like bullshit. You might as well say it fired a palm blast.
└ [Wild Grylls]: I don’t know about a palm blast, but it did wreck the whole forest. I’ll show you later.
└ What? It really fired a palm blast? lol
└ Not even the monkeys in mythology would be like that lol
└ There are monkeys in mythology too?
└ Central Plains mythology. A story about a monkey that became a spiritual creature by imitating human behavior.
└ Oh, sounds fun.
└ [Starlight Princess]: Is your arm completely broken?
└ [Wild Grylls]: Yeah. It’s dangling. I can just pour Elixir over it like this, right? I put on the splint first because I was worried the bones would heal wrong.
└ [Starlight Princess]: You made the right choice. Bones do get misaligned sometimes. Elixir has a strong effect when you drink it for injuries to the torso, but limbs are different.
└ [Wild Grylls]: If I cut it open with a knife and pour in Elixir, would it heal quickly?
└ [Starlight Princess]: I’ll just give you a syringe. I used syringes often when I was sick in the past.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Thank you. Is there anything you want? I don’t think I can go outside today, but I can probably get it for you tomorrow.
└ [Starlight Princess]: Just stay alive. You really do have the life expectancy of a fly.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Yep.
└ You really do have the life expectancy of a fly, though?
└ Yeah, honestly, I don’t think you’ll last a month.
└ Isn’t this only week two?
└ What’s going to show up after the gorilla lol
└ Good thing the gorilla showed mercy, or today might’ve been the end lol
└ [AllHailTheSun]: Should I try raising a gorilla too? I’m curious whether I could teach one martial arts.
└ [Wild Grylls]: Try teaching it to talk before martial arts. I’m curious whether that works too.
└ [AllHailTheSun]: Wouldn’t basic sign language be possible? A chimpanzee I raised before could do it.
└ [Wild Grylls]: You raised a chimpanzee?;;
└ [AllHailTheSunn]: Yeah, but it died when its lifespan ended. I doted on that little guy.
└ Upvote if that chimp probably lived better than me lol
└ For real lol. They say if you have to be a slave, be a slave in a noble household~
└ I’d rather be a chimp lol
└ My intelligence is lower than a chimp’s. Can you raise me too?
└ Then share some of your intelligence with me. Guess chimps and monkeys are the same thing.
└ Forget being a pet, just be my slave. I’ll raise you well.
└ Hahahahahaha
└ You assholes lol
While everyone in the gallery babbled on, I received the syringe from Starlight Princess.
[Starlight Princess]: I gave you a new one just in case, so you can use it without worrying.
[You]: Thank you.
[You]: I just put Elixir in here and inject it into my arm, right?
[Starlight Princess]: Yes. Please use it carefully.
The syringe was similar to the ones I knew, but different too.
The shape itself was the same. The material and size, though, were completely different.
It was especially large. The barrel was thick, but the needle was fairly small.
‘If the needle had been big too... ugh.’
I filled the syringe with Elixir and checked whether it came out properly.
Golden liquid beaded from the needle tip. That should be enough.
Then I stabbed the needle into the spot where my arm was broken and injected it in one go.
‘This makes me look like some drug addict shooting up.’
The Elixir’s distinctive cool sensation spread through me, and the pain slowly faded.
I could even feel the bones slotting back together, so it seemed mostly healed.
Still, I intended to keep the splint on for a day if possible.
I’d heard that broken bones could leave serious aftereffects.
‘At least I survived.’
I took a sip of Elixir and stared at the ceiling.
Despite its reputation, I thought the Forest of Four Seasons would be easy. I’d been wrong.
I simply hadn’t encountered anything beyond the norm like Chief Gorilla.
Even a Saber-Toothed Tiger would be no more than a cat in front of Chief Gorilla.
‘There are things as strong as that gorilla?’
How strong could they possibly be? It was a little frightening.
There were already crabs and crayfish out there that looked like they belonged in a monster movie.
Still, they were easy to avoid because they lived elsewhere and were so huge.
The problem was creatures like Chief Gorilla, which were relatively small and lived nearby.
“...”
In the middle of all that gloom, my eyes landed on Fast Sloth.
It had watched without stopping the fight, even when I nearly died.
Had it considered that the personal guards would rush in if it intervened? Or had it known Chief Gorilla would spare me?
I didn’t know, but I did know it had some connection with Chief Gorilla.
“Fast Sloth.”
“...”
“Can you use that Shifting Form and Position thing too? The move where you disappear and reappear?”
Nod.
Fast Sloth answered with a nod.
I nodded back. Giving tribute to this guy had definitely been the right choice.
‘Come to think of it...’
The next thing I noticed after Fast Sloth was the bananas.
A bunch of bananas Chief Gorilla had thrown to me as an apology.
More precisely, it was three bunches of bananas tied together, practically a set.
There was enough here to keep me from worrying about ingredients for a while. Or I could eat them as snacks.
‘Let’s try one.’
I was feeling down, so I needed something sweet. I picked off a banana.
I didn’t just take one for myself. I picked some for Fast Sloth and Wonmo too.
“Here. Eat.”
“Kyuu!”
“...”
My animal friends began eating their bananas in their own ways.
Wonmo, who could never get enough of sweets, practically buried his face in one. Fast Sloth simply stared at its banana.
It was probably uncomfortable eating a banana given by an enemy. Still, judging by the way it peeled it, it didn’t hate it.
‘It’s been a while since I had a banana.’
Struggling with one arm, I peeled mine.
I wanted to use my left hand, but I planned to save it just in case.
Munch, munch.
“...Oh?”
The moment I took a bite, a honey-like sweetness filled my mouth.
It had that distinctive banana aroma too. It really was a banana as sweet as honey.
No wonder Wonmo had buried his face in it. It tasted like joy.
‘Can bananas really be this sweet?’
Bananas that had grown while absorbing abundant mana. Even Southeast Asian bananas weren’t this sweet.
They were huge too. Each one was as big as my forearm.
I greedily devoured the banana, calming my troubled mind.
‘It did give me something good.’
Of course, it was still nothing compared to Fasting Pills.
At first, I thought it had basically told me to eat this and get lost.
Still, considering how delicious they were, it seemed to have done its best.
Where would it get food as nutritious as Fasting Pills out here?
Ordinary medicinal herbs were one thing, but Fasting Pills were human food made by combining all sorts of medicinal herbs.
“Nom nom nom.”
Wonmo finished every banana peel. Astringency aside, I was worried he might get diarrhea.
Leaning against the cave wall, I glanced at my broken arm.
No matter how many times I thought about it, it was incredible. It had only pressed its fist against my shield, yet my arm broke.
Could I pull off something like that someday? It seemed difficult to learn from gallery posts alone.
‘Wait. Come to think of it...’
Right before Chief Gorilla delivered the final blow.
When my survival instincts flared and my focus reached its limit.
I remembered the aura that had billowed like flames slowly condensing and beginning to take shape.
‘I should practice before I forget that feeling.’
The sensation was still there. The aftermath had been too vivid.
I immediately brought over Heavenly Demon’s Sword and manifested aura.
With a little mana poured in, aura rose like a heat haze.
If I put in just a little more, it surged like flames.
‘Let’s slowly recall how it felt then.’
The sensation of intangible energy pressing down on my body.
The time I’d even bitten my tongue to escape that pressure.
I hadn’t completed it, but just finding a clue was enough.
Hummm. Hummm. Hummm.
It was still difficult. It wouldn’t condense easily.
Yet I could see the flame-like aura shrinking in places.
It wasn’t because I’d stopped adding mana. I was forcing more and more in, yet it was shrinking.
It hadn’t taken complete form, but even this was tremendous progress.
‘The problem is that there’s too much aura to control.’
If I kept practicing, I’d get results eventually.
I put down the sword and logged into the gallery.
Everyone was talking about me.
They said the gorilla talking was obviously fake, that I was lying, and so on.
‘That’s why I recorded it, you little shits.’
So I uploaded a video of everything Chief Gorilla had said to the gallery.
Heavenly Demon had translated it all, but too many people refused to believe me.
‘There probably isn’t stuff like editing or AI here.’
Though it would be amazing if there was. I casually checked the gallery comments.
└ What’s with the fake subtitles now
└ Fuck
└ ing
└ Bitch
“...”
Maybe not.
Maybe people were the same everywhere.
