[Post] Too many idiots didn’t believe me, so I uploaded this.
[Post] Watch it and decide for yourselves whether it’s fake or real.
└ [Heavenly Demon]: It’s fascinating no matter how often I see it. Even its way of speaking sounds like something people used long ago.
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: I’m not very familiar with the Central Plains language. What’s it saying?
└ [Heavenly Demon]: “SwordTasteMaster is a liar, and only Heavenly Demon is great.”
└ [SwordTasteMaster]: Every time you open your mouth, it’s a lie;;
└ What’s with the fake translation?
└ You
└ Fucking
└ Bitch
└ What the hell is this? LOL
└ Look at that teamwork LOL
└ [Allfather]: By Aragon. Not only the chief, but even the gorilla beside the chief can speak. This will send shockwaves through academia...!
└ Professor, do you think those gorillas might threaten us?
└ [Allfather]: That seems unlikely. Unless they develop the Forest of Four Seasons into a civilization of their own.
└ A civilization in the Forest of Four Seasons, holy shit.
└ I heard those bastards are strong too LOL. They even know how to use tools.
└ Once they start farming, humanity’s sequel is complete.
└ So should we call them beastfolk? Or what?
└ Wouldn’t beastfolk be the right category?
└ [SuspiciouslySo]: It’s hard to call them beastfolk. Their limb proportions are all wrong.
└ [Allfather]: The person above is correct. Beastfolk need body proportions similar to humans to be called beastfolk.
└ [Smart Demon]: But does anyone know its name? If it has a language, it should have a name too.
└ Wouldn’t whoever taught it to speak have named it? Grylls, do you know?
└ Looks like Wild Grylls went off to do something else. There haven’t been any replies.
└ [Smart Demon]: Then we should name it. How about Son Yukgong?
└ Not Son Wukong, but Son Yukgong? What the hell is that? LOL
└ [Smart Demon]: Son Wukong is the name of a monkey from Central Plains mythology. That thing’s a gorilla, so Son Yukgong. Pretty fucking good, right?
└ Holy shit, are you a genius? Your IQ must be over 150!
└ [Smart Demon]: I’m kind of smart, yeah lol
└ And a guy like that spends his time on the gallery LOL
That was the gallery for you. Toss them one juicy topic, and they entertained themselves just fine.
They even came up with meaningful guesses now and then, which made browsing pretty convenient.
‘If everyone says it speaks in an old-fashioned way, then someone from long ago must have taught it.’
The notable part was that Chief Gorilla used archaic speech.
Language naturally changed as time passed.
You didn’t even have to look far. There were plenty of differences between how people in the Republic of Korea spoke fifty years ago and how they spoke now.
Apparently, the War of Righteousness and Evil that occurred around sixty years ago had also caused major changes to the Central Plains language.
That meant the language Chief Gorilla used was the sort of language someone from that era would have spoken.
‘So all kinds of things really happened here.’
From the Undying King to the War of Righteousness and Evil.
This was humanity’s history. About half of it was stained with war and battle.
Fighting and beating each other up every goddamn day was normal.
‘Same here, too.’
The wild wasn’t any different. Every day was a fight for survival.
I’d almost died at Chief Gorilla’s hands just now.
I was in no position to criticize anyone. As I kept saying, I had enough problems of my own.
I thought about how I should get through today.
Chief Gorilla had completely wrecked my plans for the day, so I needed to revise them.
‘Should I build a door and walls...?’
One strike of Chief Gorilla’s palm would destroy both walls and doors.
Even the brick house in The Three Little Pigs had held up.
But Chief Gorilla made all of that meaningless.
‘At least it apologized, so it won’t have any reason to trespass into my territory.’
Still, I had no idea where another individual as strong as Chief Gorilla might appear from.
Anything I worked hard to build could collapse in a heap with one click.
And it wouldn’t just be structures. The whole cave could collapse, just as my heart would.
‘Forget the door and walls. I’ll just install CCTV.’
That let me give up cleanly. I should be glad I realized it early.
If I’d built everything and Chief Gorilla had shown up to smash it, I would’ve been twice as devastated.
That didn’t mean I could sit here and let someone rob me blind.
Losing Fasting Pills would be manageable, but if my Elixir got stolen, my life would be in danger too.
‘I should hide the important stuff under the floor.’
I could dig into the ground and cleverly cover it with tiger hide.
I’d even put charcoal in there for its deodorizing effect, just in case.
That meant I needed to dig through the hard cave floor to some extent.
‘Can I even dig it with a pickaxe?’
The cave floor had some soil mixed in, but it was mostly stone.
It would be hard to dig without a hammer or a stone.
Besides, I couldn’t use my left arm properly yet, so I only planned to check.
‘This spot should work.’
I found a relatively soft section and marked it.
Once I decided my left arm was fully healed, sometime after lunch, I could set it up.
“Chomp chomp! Chomp chomp chomp!”
“Oh dear, Wonmo.”
You shouldn’t eat that many bananas. You’ll get diarrhea.
They must’ve been incredibly good if he was eating them peel and all. He’d already eaten four bananas by himself.
In the end, I had no choice but to hide the bananas somewhere else too. Wonmo struggled, but it couldn’t be helped.
‘That should be about everything... right?’
I seemed to have sorted out most things.
I planned to start digging the floor around lunchtime.
It was currently about eleven.
Chief Gorilla had visited early in the morning, so I had plenty of time.
‘I should light the oven first. Then head to the river and check the Fish Trap.’
Even with a splint on my left hand, I still had things to do. I stood up.
Then I wondered what I should feed Fast Sloth.
It had only eaten Fasting Pills so far, so I didn’t know its staple food.
“Fast Sloth. What do you eat? We don’t have any Fasting Pills left.”
“……”
Fast Sloth raised a claw and pointed somewhere.
I turned toward where it pointed.
Splash! Splash!
It was the metal bucket full of fish.
Did it eat fish? When I looked at it with that question in mind, it nodded.
‘Come to think of it, didn’t this thing try to steal my fish when we first met?’
I remembered it vividly.
It had slowly walked over to steal fish and gotten caught red-handed.
I’d been so dumbfounded then. Though Fast Sloth had technically shown me mercy.
‘Chief Gorilla likes fish too, and so does Fast Sloth...’
Was fish something like soup and rice to them? Delicious comfort food, even if it had become too expensive these days to be called food for ordinary people.
It made sense. Both gorillas and Fast Sloth would have trouble hunting fish.
A Golden Frog was sitting right by the water. Without a Fish Trap, it would be difficult.
“Got it. I’ll give you fish for a while. You eat it raw like Wonmo, right?”
“……”
It nodded again. That took care of meal worries for the time being.
I put Fast Sloth on my back and brought Wonmo along.
When we reached the river, I saw two fish caught in the Fish Trap.
‘Three this morning, two at lunch. Not bad.’
I still had plenty in reserve. Around three or four, maybe.
Since I had to consider Fast Sloth’s staple food for a while, I needed to conserve them.
If things got tight, I’d have to eat smoked meat.
‘The time is coming when I need to fend for myself.’
One unexpected event after another had happened, and it felt like I was relying on the gallery less and less.
No. I’d only survived this long because of the gallery.
As I cleaned the fish, I removed the Inner Cores from their guts.
Swish.
“Hm?”
The moment I pulled out an Inner Core, Fast Sloth held out a hand beside me.
It gestured as if it wanted me to give it the Inner Core.
I looked back and forth between Fast Sloth’s face and hand, then asked in disbelief.
“You want an Inner Core?”
It answered with a nod.
I was a little dumbfounded, but then I thought about it.
Honestly, I had an excess of Inner Cores.
Every fish I cleaned gave me another one.
Maybe it would be better to give Fast Sloth one at a time.
“Here.”
“……”
The moment I gave it the round Inner Core, Fast Sloth put it straight into its mouth.
It seemed to eat them as a substitute for Fasting Pills.
It didn’t taste as good as Fasting Pills, though, judging from its slight grimace.
Still, it should be enough for one meal. It probably contained far more mana than a Fasting Pill.
‘It eats Inner Cores like rice?’
That was fascinating in its own way. Just how strong was this thing?
I kept glancing at Fast Sloth as I finished cooking.
My left arm was a little uncomfortable, but cleaning the fish and putting them in the oven wasn’t difficult.
‘Good thing the gorillas didn’t destroy the oven.’
Now that I was full, I should practice the Inner Energy Cultivation Method too.
Normally, I would’ve consumed an Inner Core starting today, but with my arm like this, I put it off.
I’d probably start eating Inner Cores around dinner. The day I became stronger wasn’t far off.
‘My arm... seems mostly healed.’
The arm I’d injected with Elixir using a syringe seemed mostly recovered too.
Of course, I had no intention of going exploring. I planned to stay holed up at home all day.
I tapped my left arm here and there, then nodded. It felt sturdier than before.
‘Let’s dig the cave floor first.’
It would be where I hid the Elixir and other valuables.
Chief Gorilla probably wouldn’t trespass again, but there was always a chance.
They were intelligent creatures, so there could be one with a thieving mindset.
I bought a suitably sized pickaxe from the gallery.
‘Come to think of it, I learned all sorts of things in the military.’
I learned how to shovel in the military, and I learned how to use a pickaxe in the military too.
Back then, I’d complained about when the hell I would ever use any of this, but now it was proving incredibly useful.
Life was full of twists and turns. I let out a hollow laugh and started walking.
‘A full circular swing for centrifugal force. And let the pickaxe’s weight do the work, not my strength.’
If I swung it like an idiot with brute force, I’d only hurt my back and hands. I’d learned that the hard way in the military.
I did get to slack off a little after getting hurt back then, but after that, there was no mercy.
With useless thoughts running through my mind, I spun the pickaxe in a full circle.
Then I put a little force into it and struck the spot I wanted.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Worried it might not break, I even used aura as I started swinging the pickaxe.
Fortunately, the cave floor wasn’t that hard, so it broke easily.
‘I need to dig deep enough to fit a whole box.’
I also needed to dig wide, not just deep.
I might need to store all kinds of things in there, not just valuables.
Keeping a rhythm, I swung the pickaxe diligently. The ground gradually began to give way.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
At some point, though, I stopped making progress. The rock must have changed.
Still, it would break if I kept at it. With that thought, I patiently continued.
Clang!
“No.”
Clang!
“Why!”
CLAAANG!!!
“WHY WON’T YOU BREAK?!”
Eventually, I got angry and threw the pickaxe away.
How hard was this stuff if even a pickaxe filled with aura couldn’t dig through it?
I glared at the floor, which I’d dug only about halfway as much as I wanted.
There was a pile of rocks around it, so I cleared them away one by one with my hands.
Glitter. Glitter.
What appeared beneath the pile was a stone with an impressive green glow.
No. It was closer to ore than stone. I knew that from seeing Orichalcum.
“What is this now?”
Now the ground itself wouldn’t let me dig. It felt like God was rigging things against me.
Setting that aside, what kind of ore was this that I couldn’t even dig it out with a pickaxe?
I immediately took a picture and uploaded it to the gallery.
[Post title] Anyone know what this is?
[Author] Wild Grylls
[Post] (Photo of a green-glowing mineral)
[Post] I was digging to store my valuables, and this crap came out.
[Post] What the hell is it? Is it that Mithril thing someone mentioned before?
[Post] It’s so fucking hard my hands hurt.
└ [Passing Dwarf]: Uh. I think that really is Mithril?
└ [Wild Grylls]: ?
It was real?
Footnotes:
Son Wukong’s Korean name includes o, written with the character 悟, which is homophonous with the Korean word for “five.” The gag replaces it with yuk, “six.”
