◈ Spring Never Comes to Stolen Fields ◈
Chapter 6: Innate Magic (3)
──────
"Yan, could you leave us alone for a moment?"
Luna seemed intent on getting rid of Yan, who had come to see me first.
I didn't know why, but I assumed it was because she wanted to talk about Innate Magic.
Yan nodded and quietly left my room.
"Sirius. This is all your fault."
Luna swept her silver hair back and perched beside me on the bed.
The pale nape of her neck caught my eye.
"What are you talking about?"
"Lick it."
She held out a finger to me.
I was dumbfounded. No, I'd been bedridden for a week after doing that last time. There was no way I'd do it again...
There was.
My body defied my will and obediently bit down on her finger.
Last time, all I tasted was the metallic tang of blood. This time, I could also faintly smell the scent of her skin.
What is this? This is scary.
"Ah...!"
In contrast to my reaction, Luna's face flushed as she let out a strange sound.
If she kept doing this in a grown man's room, I couldn't be held responsible.
After licking her finger for about a minute, I finally let go when she told me to stop.
"Luna. What the hell did you do to me?"
My expression hardened as I asked.
If it had been something like hypnosis magic or magic that forcibly moved objects, I should have at least been able to sense it, even if I fell under its effects.
But this was something else entirely.
"How did my blood taste?"
How did it taste? Gross and unsettling, obviously.
"It tasted awful. I'm human. I don't have some hobby of drinking blood."
"Then shall we do it again today?"
Luna pulled a small knife from her pocket and pricked her fingertip.
Bright red drops of blood welled up on her pale hand.
She kept hurting herself. For a moment, I wondered if something was troubling her.
As I watched, an overwhelming thirst suddenly seized me.
I wanted to drink it. I wanted it so badly.
The blood beading on her fingertip looked like an oasis in the desert.
Without even asking what she wanted, I snatched her hand and brought it to my mouth.
It was sweeter than any drink I had ever tasted.
More than the taste, I could feel power overflowing through my body.
I felt as though I could cast the highest-tier spells one after another and still have strength left over.
I savored her finger as though possessed, then gradually came to my senses.
"How was it?"
Luna crossed her legs and looked down at me with an arrogant expression.
"Tell me right now. What did you do to me?"
She had definitely pulled something.
"You did the same thing to me."
"What...?"
"I gave back exactly what you did to me."
I couldn't understand. I swore I had never done anything to Luna.
I looked at her with the same confused expression.
"Sirius. You made me yours, so I only did the same."
"Explain it properly. I have no idea what you mean."
"Your Innate Magic made me like this... You started it first... I did nothing wrong. It's all... all... your fault...!"
Unable to control her emotions, she pressed both hands to her face.
Then, as if she had regained her composure, she returned to her usual self.
After taking a deep breath, she looked into my eyes.
Her red eyes were filled with resolve.
"I like you."
Huh?
"I said I like you, Sirius."
Out of nowhere? Why? How?
With her head lowered, she nervously twisted her hair as she spoke.
The atmosphere was too serious for this to be some cruel joke.
"Your Innate Magic... is Emotional Amplification."
Emotional Amplification... So it was an ability that made people unable to control their feelings?
It was far rarer than beginner wind magic, but even after hearing that, I wasn't all that thrilled.
I'd been expecting some ridiculously broken magic, after all.
Only then did I somewhat understand what my master meant when she said it could be useful depending on who wielded it.
If that was the power of my Innate Magic, it could force things that had once been impossible to become possible.
Maybe I could even influence other people's thoughts and opinions, making them reach decisions that went against reason.
As I listened to Luna and sorted through my thoughts, one question surfaced.
Why had Luna been unable to hold back and confess to me?
Amplification increased existing emotions beyond what was necessary, whether they were positive or negative. Which meant...
"Luna... Don't tell me..."
When I spoke in a tone of realization, she looked like a lamb before a wolf.
Her cheeks were slightly red, and her expression begged me not to say anything.
In the quiet stillness, the sound of her swallowing was strangely loud.
I could feel my heart racing wildly.
She looked so cute like this, unlike anything I had seen from her before.
"Sirius."
She called my name softly.
I'd always been the one at a disadvantage, so for a brief moment, I basked in the feeling of having the upper hand because Luna liked me.
Luna liked me... The stunningly beautiful Demon King's daughter liked me... It was hard to hold back my smile.
Maybe I was too absorbed in my own feelings, because I hadn't properly heard her call me.
"Sirius... Kneel."
The instant she said that, it felt as though immense gravity pressed down on me, forcing me to my knees.
Oh, right. This. This irresistible command. What was this supposed to be?
Luna looked down at me with a satisfied expression.
"Luna... I think your explanation is still lacking... Ha... haha..."
Still kneeling, I asked with an awkward laugh, like someone who had done something wrong.
"Sirius. Thanks to your Innate Magic, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind."
She smiled as she stroked my head.
"I want to touch you like this."
Her hand slid down and brushed across my chest.
"I want to hold your hand, too."
She lifted my hand, which had been folded politely in front of me, and clasped it in hers.
"I feel like giving all this overflowing love to you."
She pulled me to my feet and caressed my face.
Every time she touched me, my body flinched. I had no resistance to physical contact.
The last girl I had touched was Celia, and that felt like ages ago.
"So I thought about it. What should I do? How could I make you look at me, too?"
She ran her index finger along her lips.
I couldn't take my eyes off her alluring figure.
And I had no choice but to listen to what she said next.
What the hell did she do to me...?!
"I used my Innate Magic on you. You used yours on me, didn't you?"
As I remembered it, my master's one-line assessment had definitely been that blood would tell.
I had thought Luna's magic would resemble the Demon King's Innate Magic, or at least be comparable to it. And she used it on me?
"Sirius. From the day you drank my blood, you became my first Thrall."
In short, I had become her slave.
It wasn't unheard of for high-ranking demons to make humans or other races into Thralls, even if it wasn't common.
But if it involved Innate Magic, it clearly had effects beyond a simple master-servant relationship.
Still, when I thought about it, wasn't it a little strange to make someone a slave before confessing your love?
When I frowned, she spoke as if defending herself.
"You used your Innate Magic on me without my consent, too. We're both at fault."
I didn't know... I didn't know it worked like that...
From the looks of it, she had done it knowing exactly what would happen, which annoyed me.
Still, she wasn't entirely wrong.
I pretended to stay calm and tried to argue with her.
"So? What do you want me to do? You made me your Thrall."
Honestly, I already did almost anything Luna told me to do.
She wasn't the kind of person to make me do anything strange, and despite everything, we had gotten along fairly well.
"Sirius. Didn't you notice anything different about your body?"
That was right. The unfamiliar power I had felt before she entered the room. Magical power.
Surely that was related to her Innate Magic too.
"...I can use magical power now. Is that part of your magic, too?"
"What do you think is the biggest difference between humans and demons?"
The biggest difference between humans and demons...
It was whether they could use magical power.
It felt like I had been struck hard in the head.
That was right. To everyone else now, I was...
"Welcome to demonkind, Sirius."
She gave me the prettiest smile she could manage.
I had never thought about wanting to remain human forever.
After all, no matter what I did, humans were human and demons were demons. I had never imagined that distinction could change.
And there was an even bigger problem. I was now...
The Hero's enemy.
I, Yuwol, had become one of the demons Celia was supposed to wipe out.
Unable to think straight, I stammered before finally asking the same question again.
"Why...? Why did you do this to me...?"
Luna stepped closer and held my face in both hands.
Then she pressed her forehead against mine.
"You can't leave, Sirius. I'm never letting that bitch of a Hero take you from me."
It felt like my plans had gone completely off the rails.
