◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈

Chapter 35: Helper

──────

"Ah, welcome. I've been waiting for you."

"Greetings, new Baron of Jericho. What did you summon me for?"

"Max, you're a companion of the Blessed One Sinclair, correct?"

"...That's right."

Jericho Barony.

Months had passed, yet Yuben Jericho had not returned to his territory.

The slaves he had taken with him had vanished, and so had his soldiers.

In the end, he was declared dead.

Under his will, Lenggli, formerly his vassal, inherited the castle and title.

"I have something to pass on to Sinclair. I'd appreciate it if you could deliver it for me."

The Baron of Jericho handed Max a notebook titled Dreamland Dungeon Walkthrough.

Max accepted it and blinked.

"What's this?"

"Yuben died in a dungeon. This contains the information he recorded about that dungeon before his death."

"What do you mean?"

The Baron of Jericho explained what had happened.

A newly formed dungeon called Dreamland had appeared in the Forest of Life.

Yuben had headed there and never returned.

"Yuben most likely lost his life while attempting to conquer it."

"Why are you giving this to me, no, to Sinclair...?"

"Revenge for Yuben... I'm not emotional enough to put it that way. Think of it as a way to build a good relationship with Sinclair. Revenge is just an added bonus. Do you need Escape Scrolls, by any chance? I still have two left. I'll sell them to you cheap."

Max looked down at the Dungeon Walkthrough Yuben had written.

Dreamland Dungeon Walkthrough

Dreamland basically has a structure that doesn't require combat.

No magic, no swordsmanship. Feels like it would be fine to bring ordinary people?

It's a newly formed dungeon, but was its killing power maximized at the cost of something?

Need to think of it differently from ordinary dungeons.

There are obstacles and stuff, but Detection Magic can't identify them.

Seems like Detection Magic should only be used to check the layout.

Destruction is basically impossible... You can't break anything at all.

There seem to be certain rules instead... That appears to be the dungeon's defining trait.

Detection revealed a total of two places that could be called areas.

The entrance is pretty damn long... Six hours to reach the machine...

The Dungeon Master's terrible taste...

I like the empty, stark-white corridor.

Minimalism at its extreme.

I've yet to meet the Dungeon Master.

It's a newly formed dungeon, so they probably aren't that strong.

Just in case, I'm assuming they're about as strong as an ordinary soldier.

Entrance

There is a machine.

Presumed to be a Teleportation Device. Probably used to reach the next area?

Only one person can ride it.

If two or more ride, they die. Even a Swordmaster can't react in time. Just instant death.

The unlit corridor is a decoy.

Never go there...

There seem to be monsters, but they don't feel like something that can be killed.

Sometimes an Insect Human gets on.

You die if you speak to it.

You die if you provoke it.

You should be fine if you stay still.

There is a button for changing floors.

I think it might be a clue for reaching the next area.

The elevator moves up to three times before returning to the first floor.

Maybe you have to enter a password?

Straight Passage

Pretty damn long.

Feels about eight times longer than the entrance.

There was nothing there when checked with Detection Magic.

Wide Hollow

Pretty damn spacious.

There was nothing there when checked with Detection Magic.

'This is supposed to be a Dungeon Walkthrough?'

Max blinked.

Max had seen too much while traveling with Sinclair to take it at face value.

An ordinary Dungeon Walkthrough would go something like this.

There are these traps and these Minions in this area.

Their traits are like this, so you should fight them this way.

Bring these items.

For personnel, it recommends a mage from a certain school and someone with nimble hands.

'Well, I can't say it's completely wrong...'

Don't go into unlit corridors.

An Insect Human sometimes gets on, and you need to enter a password.

'The Dungeon Walkthroughs I've seen usually said things like, "This Minion has strong regeneration, so use fire against it."'

It was a very unfamiliar sort of Dungeon Walkthrough.

The Baron had spoken too seriously for it to be fake, though.

"All right, I understand. I'll buy all the remaining scrolls. My condolences for the deceased."

"Yes. Please do."

.

.

.

Max stared at the Dungeon Walkthrough.

'I missed my chance to say it in the end.'

The new Baron of Jericho had asked Max to deliver the Dungeon Walkthrough to Sinclair.

Unfortunately, Max was no longer a member of Sinclair's party.

People called that cutting ties.

To put it simply, Max was hot-tempered, had a nasty personality, and caused plenty of trouble.

Because of that, Max had always been treated as the party's troublemaker.

Even when there were major and minor conflicts, Sinclair always kept Max around.

Whatever else could be said, Max's abilities were exceptional.

Max also had far greater potential than the other party members.

But after Max ruined their years-long attempt to conquer Maharaurava, Sinclair couldn't contain their anger and abandoned Max on the spot.

Max saw things differently from Sinclair, of course.

Either way, the connection between them had ended after that.

There was no reason to give this to Sinclair when Max was no longer even a party member.

'They said it was a newly formed dungeon. Should I give it a try?'

Max clenched and unclenched his fists.

There was nothing else to do anyway.

So Max began gathering supplies and recruiting people to conquer Dreamland.

Title: Traits of Blessed Ones' Lackeys (Long Post, Wall of Text Warning)

Author: dragonbrat

Any DM who's survived this long has met at least one Blessed One, right? Even worldiscold has met one, so if any bastard hasn't, rip out your Magic Stone in the dungeon. I'm so fucking jealous, damn it...

Anyway, as you all know, Blessed Ones basically look human. But does that mean those bastards are treated like humans? That? Doesn't? Seem? To? Be? The? Case?

It's funny to treat people who come back to life after dying as humans anyway, LOL.

They revive at Oblivion Shrines scattered across the continent... Honestly, even if I were human, I'd be like, "What the fuck?" and wouldn't consider them one of us...

Still, it's a fact that humans are the race most favorable toward Blessed Ones out of the Three Great Races.

In the North Kingdom, they're treated well, like messengers sent by a god.

Anyway, the bastards who could be called our greatest natural enemies are the Blessed Ones.

If those bastards swarmed us and ganged up on us, we wouldn't still exist in this world... Luckily, Oblivion wasn't shameless enough to allow that, yeah.

There's a limit of one Blessed One who can enter per Wave.

Time has proven that this is an absolute rule.

Has anyone here ever faced two Blessed Ones at once? If you have, leave a comment so I can correct this, LOL.

For the reason mentioned above, only one Blessed One can enter a dungeon.

Then naturally, the remaining party members are filled by people who aren't Blessed Ones, right?

Blessed Ones earn the reward of leveling up while wrecking the traps and Minions, we worked so hard to make.

But the others aren't like that, are they??

Sure, killing us and obtaining the Magic Stone would solve that problem.

But it's not as easy as it sounds, right??

Any DM who's survived this long is practically a Veteran...

Getting a Magic Stone is as hard as plucking a star from the sky, so the reality is that they often return empty-handed.

And unlike Blessed Ones, their lackeys are done for once they die.

So why the hell do Blessed Ones' lackeys follow them around like puppies under the name of Helpers?

I was so fucking curious that I tried to find out???

And I learned something seriously fucking shocking...

Blessed Ones could raise their lackeys with the System, just like us...

They could increase their Stats and even grant rare traits... Party members were following Blessed Ones around, sucking up to them in hopes of getting traits and increases to their Stats...

Holy shit...

Holy shit...

You already knew?

Cry about it.

└op_ghost: Where'd you get such hiiiiigh-level information from??

└dragonbrat: Obviously, I got it through interrogation.

Reading old posts had become fun lately.

They were Dungeon Masters I had never met, but reading through their posts made it feel as though I could learn the story of their lives.

It was one of the few little hobbies I could enjoy in a dungeon with so little content.

Of course, I was still regularly hanging around the Gallery.

no_minions_4_me: Has another intruder entered since then?

└newbie: Nope nope nope nope. Honestly, I kind of wish someone would come in LOL.

This was my main source of entertainment.

I lay sprawled over Malrang.

"Blegh?"

I sank into the soft, squishy feeling and spent another peaceful day socializing with Veterans.

└no_minions_4_me: Then what about the experience from when you filmed a horror movie with that lord outside last time?

└newbie: The Escape Scroll counted as a subjugation, so I got the experience and rewards. Maybe because I didn't kill him myself, but I didn't get any rewards for that T_T

└no_minions_4_me: I see... Then what's your level now?

└newbie: I'm level 60 now. I have 300,000 Points, hehe.

└no_minions_4_me: Already? That's a huge increase.

I could probably say with pride that I was now a proper member of the Dungeon Gallery.

My level was still low, but I shared information in my own way.

I was in a position where I could naturally interact with Veterans.

Later, I should get some content-starved Veterans together and play tabletop RPGs.

The rulebook would be DX3... They already knew the community's lore, so it would be easy for them to learn a modern-day setting.

"Hehehe, this is exciting."

I might be a newbie Dungeon Master, but I was a Veteran at tabletop RPGs.

If someone asked, "What the hell is that, you nerd?" I could immediately turn into a star instructor and spend three hours explaining that it stood for tabletop role-playing game.

【1 minute until the Wave.......】

A notification window appeared, but I didn't feel tense.

Yeah. I'm not falling for it.

Nobody comes because this is the Forest of Life.

I thought people would come swarming in after I killed that lord.

But nobody had come even once since then.

Two months had already passed since Yuben's Wave.

Still, not even a rat, let alone a human, had entered my dungeon.

At this point, I figured it would stay quiet until the next Position Shift.

I closed my eyes.

I wasn't sleepy, but I could at least pretend.

So cozy.

【1】

【The Wave has begun.】

【Intruders are entering.】

【A total of four intruders have been confirmed.】

【Three humans.】

【One Helper.】

I shot upright.

For a moment, it felt like I had seen something I wasn't supposed to see.

"At least no Blessed One came, but..."

What was a Helper?

That woke me right up.
