◈ The Dungeon Gallery's Terrifying Newbie ◈
Chapter 79: Hobby
──────
Lately, I'd found something new to do besides browsing the Gallery and playing with Malrang.
That was...
newbie: Please, someone play TRPG with me
TRPG.
An abbreviation for Tabletop Role-Playing Game.
It was the only pastime I could really call a hobby before becoming a Dungeon Master.
I was recruiting people to play TRPG, basically the greatest form of entertainment in this world.
I'd been busy in all sorts of ways since becoming a Dungeon Master.
Strengthening my dungeon, defending against Waves, livestreaming, playing with Malrang, and so on.
It wasn't like I hadn't had time to bring up TRPG until now...
It was just that something always happened whenever I tried, so I'd never had a proper opportunity.
It's not like I'm some kind of dungeon-upgrading machine.
Honestly, I didn't even sleep after becoming a Dungeon Master, so I had plenty of free time.
That was why I thought it might be fun to play with the Veterans and brought it up once.
└ whaleyeah: What the hell is TRPG?
└ no_minions_4_me: Don't know... I seriously don't know...
└ squintychar: The name alone sounds suspicious.
└ tvhead: For real LOL
└ antqueen: Is it the name of an Anomaly??
└ psychward_mvp: Since we don't know about it,
└ psychward_mvp: I guess even Oblivion filtered it out??
└ skullbones: TRPG that even Oblivion filtered out LMAOOOO
└ skullbones: Ah, that's so, so scary.
The response was kind of sad.
It stung to see all the regular names, the ones who always left comments, vanish.
I felt like Sarang would definitely play if I asked.
Sadly, the usual rule for TRPG was to gather four players, so I'd have to wait for another chance.
There were TRPGs where the Game Master and player could play one-on-one.
But those felt different from regular TRPGs.
Most also required a high tolerance for awkwardness, so I wouldn't recommend them to beginners.
Anyway.
Position Shift was a week away.
I could finally escape this godforsaken Fire Forge.
I'd kept watch outside through Malrang.
The temporary camp near the dungeon had been dismantled.
Fire Forge was quiet too.
It looked like they'd decided it was hopeless and given up.
A lot had happened so far.
Starting with the Dwarves, then the Elves of Dino World, even though it wasn't my dungeon.
And the humans of Wolfhauffen, along with Dragrade.
Thinking back on it, this Position Shift had brought a record number of intruders.
"I miss the Goblins and Trolls..."
They were stupid but straightforward bastards.
If they had a problem, they picked a fight. They weren't the type to stab you in the back from the shadows.
In my opinion, you guys are five hundred times better than intelligent lifeforms.
Please let the next Position Shift take me home.
This was a moment when I missed the Lowjinrat Great Mountain Range, where I'd never lost faith in humanity.
newbie: By the way, Sarang hasn't been around today. Is something up??
└ golemking: An intruder came in, so she's fighting them right now.
What.
Seriously?

An intruder came in for the first time in a while, so I recorded a video of myself fighting them!
You have to praise me lots and lots!

golemking: For real, every time I see it, that Vampire Dragon is fucking terrifying.
golemking: How are you even supposed to kill that?
golemking: It has regeneration and reflection too.
golemking: And Ghouls come pouring out as well.
golemking: It's seriously such a fucking kiddie dungeon.
└ dip: To think they invaded Wallachia without a shred of fear.
└ dip: Poor thing...
└ sealedconq: Did they kind of want to commit suicide??
└ sealedphilo: Like worldiscold?
└ worldiscold: That's so fucking harsh, damn it.
└ worldiscold: But if it were me, I wouldn't go there.
└ worldiscold: I'd just hang myself and die LOL.
└ antqueen: Sarang hasn't lost her touch;;
└ antqueen: She's still got it, yeah.
└ op_ghost: Getting brainwashed just by making eye contact
└ op_ghost: really is an absurdly broken ability.
└ op_ghost: If you want to kill the Dungeon Master,
└ op_ghost: you have to snipe them from far away while hiding,
└ op_ghost: or fight with your eyes shut or while staring at their feet LOL.
└ anonbutcher: The first option is practically pointless because of the Surveillance Camera.
└ anonbutcher: If you choose the second, you're basically saying you'll die.
└ cowhead: LOL guys, I think I'm in serious trouble.
└ cowhead: When do the Anomalies show up??
└ cowhead: Why are the Dungeon Master and Minions fighting??
└ cowhead: I was having cognitive dissonance over this shit, what do I do...
└ kongkong: This person is seriously addicted to newbie's livestreams.
└ kongkong: Head mod, let's ban cowhead for about a month, yeah...
└ dm_disappointed: If newbie's rubbed off on cowhead, it can't be helped.
└ dm_disappointed: LOL, but it's been a long time since we got such a classic livestream video.
└ tvhead: Dungeons are places where people fight.
└ tvhead: They're not places where you solve rules and avoid Anomalies LOL.

What was I even supposed to say?
Every Veteran's dungeon I saw felt like it belonged to a different genre.
This was what a real dungeon was.
A small battlefield where Minions, traps, and the final boss, the Dungeon Master, faced intruders.
Of course, Dungeon Masters walking around inside and beating the shit out of intruders themselves was different from the games I used to play.
Anyway.
Watching swordsmanship and magic clash in such spectacular fashion made my heart swell.
I glanced at the Minions in the Core Room.
A slime the size of a gym ball.
A Doppelganger twice its size.
Cat-and-mouse statues that were Hell itself if they showed up in your dreams.
"Ugh..."
Right.
You guys were the reason I was still alive.
So what if you're ugly and scary?
Whether it's a person or an Anomaly, what's inside is what matters.
Our Anomalies were cooler and better than Vampire Dragons.
"I'm happy to be your Dungeon Master!"
Please just grow up healthy.
Other than Malrang, you were all already fully grown, so you couldn't get any bigger anyway.
└ humanluvr: newbieee!
└ humanluvr: Where's my praise??
Ah, right.
I'd been watching in a daze and forgot to leave a comment.
└ newbie: Aah, Sarang and Wallachia are both so cool.
└ newbie: Seriously, it's the best dungeon I've seen so far T_T
└ worldiscold: You said Dino World was the best to me...
└ worldiscold: So you were just saying that...
└ worldiscold: I didn't even know, and I was so happy...
Gasp.
I'd accidentally created a menhera.
└ newbie: They're tied for first place, okay? Hehe;;
└ humanluvr: ...............................
└ humanluvr: ...............................
Fuck.
Why are you doing this again?
└ humanluvr: I think newbie's Dreamland is the best.
└ humanluvr: Newbie is always my first priority, I only think about newbie, I leave comments on every single newbie livestream, I vote for newbie every time there's a poll, I love and like and cherish newbie this much and put so much effort into newbie.
└ humanluvr: Why can't I be newbie's first priority? If I were newbie's first priority, newbie would've told me I was cool without me having to bring it up, right? Is there something I'm lacking? Does anyone know the answer?
└ humanluvr: I'msoverydepressedandwrongedandsadthatitfeelstearsarespillingoutandimwrithinginpainimightaswellhavediedtotheintruderearlierthennewbiewouldhavepaidattentiontome, right?
Why are you doing this to me?
Is this the real Anomaly?
This was so, so scary.
.
.
.
.
.
Anyway.
I safely got past the menhera issue with my ultimate head pats.
Watching Sarang's livestream made me wonder something.
Could I become that strong too?
The Anomalies were taking care of everything even now.
But I was always on the watching side, you know.
Honestly, going outside made me a little nervous too.
I felt a lot more secure if I could take someone down myself.
What made Veterans like Sarang so strong was largely their traits, and I did have traits too.
─────
Traits Owned
【Mental Resistance ★MAX】
【Pain Resistance ★MAX】
【Eidetic Memory ★MAX】
【Fatal Injury Negation (1 use)】
...
...
─────
They might look impressive, but aside from Fatal Injury Negation, which I gained by eating the Drake Heart secha gave me as a gift, they were all traits Dungeon Masters possessed by default.
Dungeon Master traits, like Minions and traps, could also be bought in the shop.
Just as the types of Minions and traps varied by theme, traits did too.
For example, Sarang's Evil Eye, which could brainwash people.
Or secha's Evolution, which could turn secha into a huge fucking Tyrannosaurus.
Those were all traits you could choose after selecting a theme, then purchase.
The Anomaly theme had traits available for purchase too.
But look.
【Reviver (★1)】
【Price: 7,000,000P】
【......】
Even the most cost-effective trait cost this much.
How was I supposed to buy that?
It would be more sensible to spend that money on a ton of Minions and traps.
Maybe later, but definitely not now.
"It'd be nice to have at least one way to protect myself..."
What I realized while taking down intruders this time was that I probably could never become a fighter.
Even with support from Mental Resistance and Pain Resistance.
Personally, I thought I was fucking terrible at fighting.
I had no talent for it at all.
No matter how high my Stats were, I was still uncoordinated.
Whether it was because I got excited or scared when I fought, I lost track of what was around me so badly that I felt like I could die if I ran into a real knight.
It was a strange feeling.
I had grit, but there was an innate limit. I could never reach the level I wanted.
newbie: Guys, do I have no talent for fighting?
newbie: I'd appreciate it if you'd be brutally honest...
└ worldiscold: Yeah.
└ worldiscold: You're kind of bad at it LOL.
└ no_minions_4_me: Yeah.
└ no_minions_4_me: I'll be blunt, okay?
└ no_minions_4_me: Even considering you don't have any Stats or traits, newbie is still the weakest...
└ anonbutcher: At first, I thought you'd do well if someone taught you, but you're not fighter material.
└ anonbutcher: Of course, if you keep gaining experience and practicing, you'll improve from where you are now.
└ anonbutcher: But it'd be better to invest that time into something else.
└ anonbutcher: Fighting in person carries risks, after all...
└ newbie: T_T_T
└ newbie: That's sad...
└ humanluvr: newbieee!
└ humanluvr: It's okay, big sis will protect you.
└ humanluvr: I'll protect my newbie no matter what T_T
└ newbie: Hehe...
Come to think of it, this wasn't the time to recruit people for TRPG.
Starting today, maybe I should train a little.
No.
Recruiting people for TRPG was still important.
It's not like I was going to train all day.
└ dip: I'm fucking awful at fighting directly too, like you.
└ dip: That's why I summon Sanses and make them fight for me LOL.
└ dip: Don't be discouraged, newbie.
└ dip: You're number one in Dungeon Gallery when it comes to little tricks.
└ orange★: But why are you suddenly asking about fighting?
└ orange★: Is there a Dungeon Master you want to beat up?
└ newbie: LOL, it's not that;;
└ newbie: It'd be nice if I got stronger too.
└ newbie: I'd feel more secure when I go outside and stuff.
└ magichero: N-newbie...
└ magichero: Th-th-then how about magic??
└ newbie: !
Magic.
Could I use it?
└ newbie: It'd be nice if I could learn it, but
└ newbie: I don't get caught by Detection Magic either,
└ newbie: and Anomalies don't seem related to magic at all.
└ newbie: Could I do it...?
└ magichero: Looking at newbie's Stats window,
└ magichero: it does say MP 130...
Ah.
That was true.
└ magichero: I-I-I can teach you if you want...
Should I give it a try?
