◈ The S-Classes That I Raised ◈

Chapter 110: Greetings (1)

──────

“Nice to meet you, Hunter Yu Myeongu!”

“You look even more impressive in person!”

“Just tell us what you need! Are there any materials you’re looking for?”

Ingratiating chatter rang out from all sides. Myeongu had finally shown himself after staying shut in for so long, and every Hunter in the building had flocked over. At first, there had only been around ten because mid and low-rank Hunters did not dare squeeze in, but more and more arrived after hearing the news. Now, over thirty A-Class Hunters filled the lobby. I even spotted a few faces I had run into at Haeyeon.

Only Hunters with entry permission could enter the inner lobby, so there were probably even more outside. They were all desperate to get their hands on S-Class equipment.

Myeongu had been a little flustered at first, but he soon confidently picked out volunteers to put to work shopping for materials. Seeing him order A-Class Hunters around with a flick of his finger was deeply satisfying.

Our Myeongu really was the king of kings.

“Then I’ll be back.”

“Be careful. Safety comes first.”

He had Shalos’s Bead, and he could flee to the forge if things went wrong, so there should not be a problem. Once Myeongu left, most people rushed after him. A few remained behind, though, turning their attention to me with looks that said, If not the pheasant, then the chicken.

Just then, Yerim appeared by the entrance leading to the parking lot. She was still young and did not look especially strong, but the Hunters around her naturally moved out of her way. She walked lightly over without anyone blocking her path and beamed at me.

“Mister! Huh? That’s a bracelet I haven’t seen before. It’s pretty! But I don’t think it goes with your clothes. You should get properly styled too, Mister.”

“That sounds annoying.”

It was not as if I needed to manage my image on broadcasts like the guildmasters did. Yerim, who had been examining my bracelet, looked around me.

“Noah isn’t here.”

“Why? Do you need something from him?”

“No, he’s just so pretty. And he sparkles. Oh, did you know? Soyoung came to see Comet, then saw Noah practicing flying and spent the whole day completely out of it. Even now, she keeps muttering, ‘No, I have Comet.’ She must have really liked him.”

I could understand that. Comet would grow into an S-Class dragon species, but it could not compare to Noah. Of course, Noah was a person. No, was he even better because he was a person and could communicate?

I wanted to show Riette to Kang Soyoung sometime too. I was curious about her reaction.

“You said you were going to the Special Detention Center?”

“Yeah. You don’t necessarily have to come with me.”

It would probably have a different atmosphere from a regular detention center, so I was reluctant to bring a kid along. But Yerim raised an eyebrow as if I had said something ridiculous.

“When I’m with you, I’m your bodyguard. That’s what we agreed to.”

The contract with Yerim had been nullified when I was kidnapped, and I had not planned to renew it. I had not thought there was any need to tie her down with a contract. She would help me even without one.

But Yerim had wanted to draw up another contract. This time, the terms only said that she would protect me if I asked.

As I looked down at Yerim, who said she would follow me anywhere, I suddenly noticed the earrings swaying from her ears.

‘They were called the Queen of the Merfolk of the Blue Billows earrings.’

Their design was certainly similar to Waterdrop’s Merfolk Queen earrings. In particular, those blue gems seemed to be made from the same mineral, differing only in size. I did not have the ability to appraise them precisely, but their color and cut were identical.

‘If Myeongu can teach skills to other talented people, those unfilial bastards should be able to teach skills too.’

If those earrings really belonged to Waterdrop, her skills would likely be water or ice based. What abilities did the others have? I did not know about Newbie, but there were Deer, Wolf, and Tree.

...I still did not know. Why was there a Waterdrop but nothing like Flame?

Anyway, I should get every last thing I could out of them.

“I need to meet Yoohyun too, but why hasn’t he replied?”

I said this as we entered the parking lot and pulled out my phone. I needed to tell him about the bracelet and that Myeongu and I were going to a dungeon.

“The Guildmaster? Did you ask Mister Kim Seonghan or Team Leader Seok?”

“No. Should I call?”

When I opened my contacts, Yerim craned her neck to look.

“What did you save my number as?”

“Yerim.”

“Mister, you really are such a mister. They’re all just names.”

What was wrong with that? What else was I supposed to put? Yerim snatched my phone and scrolled through my contacts.

“The Guildmaster is just ‘Younger Brother’ too? That’s unexpected. Huh? What’s this? ‘Skill’? Who is that?”

“Seong Hyeonje.”

“...The Sesung Guildmaster?”

“Yeah.”

“How did he end up as ‘Skill’ instead of his name?”

“Because that’s what he is.”

“Wow, treating him like a skill,” Yerim said with a laugh.

She complained that my phone was so empty and recommended apps before giving it back. I called Kim Seonghan. When I asked about Yoohyun’s location, I received an unexpected answer.

“The Special Detention Center?”

[Yes. He left about an hour ago.]

Why had he gone there? The Special Detention Center currently held Yoon Gyeongsu and the A-Class Hunters. MKC’s Choi Seokwon had been sent alone to a regular detention center, while the rest were to be severely punished.

Since I had been involved, visiting was one thing. But why was he not answering? Were phone calls blocked there? No, I had sent the text an hour ago.

A faintly ominous feeling came over me.

“The Guildmaster is at the Special Detention Center?”

“Yeah. We need to get there quickly. I have a bad feeling.”

“Should we call Soyoung? She’d be at least twice as fast as going by car.”

...Hmm.

“Soyoung has gotten plenty of tickets, but she’s never had an accident.”

“...Okay. Please.”

Did anyone have a spare helmet?

* * *

The small lizard-shaped Spirit of Fire quietly circled its master’s ankle. Then it slid down beneath his feet and seeped into the floor. Leaving only faint, dark scorch marks behind, it passed through layer after layer of walls without anyone but the one who had given the order noticing.

Han Yoohyun sat in a waiting room chair, a faint smile on his face as he looked at the man standing across the table from him. Song Taewon finally let out a sigh he could no longer hold back.

“Unless you are the victim yourself, you cannot visit detainees in the Special Detention Center. Even being a blood relative does not change that.”

“How strict. I only wish to ask a few questions.”

“It would be possible with the detainees’ consent, but Yoon Gyeongsu and the other Hunters have all refused visitation.”

Why would they agree? Han Yoohyun was smiling, but it was obvious as daylight how he wanted to deal with the detainees. Song Taewon spoke to the young man, troublesome in a different way from Seong Hyeonje.

“So please leave now.”

“Since I have come this far, I will wait until my brother arrives. I heard he planned to visit today.”

“...Very well.”

Song Taewon hesitated slightly before nodding. If Han Yujin, who had been involved in the incident, arrived, it would be difficult to stop him from visiting. At the same time, Han Yoohyun would become manageable enough in front of his older brother.

‘It is strange, really.’

Han Yoohyun was the most noticeably changed, but he was not the only one. Riette had quietly entered the detention center, and Seong Hyeonje, for whatever reason, had treated a fledgling Hunter generously. Park Yerim went without saying. He had also heard that Han Yujin was quite close to Moon Hyuna, likely because of the mounts.

Whatever the reason, Song Taewon welcomed the change. Han Yujin, at the center of it all, was someone who could be reasoned with.

It was just as he relaxed a little.

Boom!

Something exploded.

Rumble...

The sound of collapsing, shattering, and burning followed. The emergency phone mounted on the wall began ringing. Song Taewon picked up the receiver, unable to hide his surprise. A frantic voice reporting that part of the detention block had been destroyed reached Han Yoohyun’s ears as well.

“It seems they grew tired of staying locked up quietly.”

Han Yoohyun rose from his seat, speaking in a calm tone so gentle it was almost kind. Something red brushed faintly past his feet before vanishing from sight. Song Taewon’s face hardened as he turned toward the very young Hunter.

“You need not concern yourself. They are under restraint measures, so the Hunters within the facility will be sufficient.”

“Will they?”

Another explosion sounded. Han Yoohyun took a long, slender sword from his inventory. Red light seeped into one of his eyes.

“If the inventory sealing device has been destroyed, the restraint measures will be useless. They are S-Class and A-Class Hunters, so they must have plenty of high-grade potions and Curse Resistance equipment as well.”

Even the Special Detention Center’s inhuman restraint measures could be escaped if they could take out and use potions. The restrictions involving curses were no different.

“...I am curious how you can be so certain that the sealing device has been destroyed.”

“Is that not a natural assumption with all that commotion? So I will help you.”

Han Yoohyun started toward the exit. Song Taewon reflexively blocked his path. If he let him go like this, none of the Hunters, including Yoon Gyeongsu, would survive.

“We do not need your help.”

“Manager Song, if you do not want to see yourself and all the other innocent people get hurt, go evacuate them.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“I am holding myself back. Otherwise, take it up with Seong Hyeonje. If he had handled them cleanly inside the dungeon, there would have been no need for all this trouble. Did he leave my share for me?”

Song Taewon eventually moved aside. In truth, they were people whose slaughter inside the dungeon would not have been surprising. Rather than increase the casualties by trying to stop Han Yoohyun, it would be better to evacuate people as he said.

Even after reaching that conclusion, Song Taewon’s expression remained grim. His gaze at the young man, far younger than himself, who calmly walked out the door was colder than ever.

Beasts with their leashes loosened. Monsters without even collars to bind them.

He found them even more loathsome because he included himself among them. Song Taewon ground his teeth and headed off to handle the aftermath.

* * *

Hunter Kang Soyoung’s skills were incredible. Her coordination with Yerim was incredible too. Whenever they were stopped by a traffic light or a route that required a detour, she simply lifted the entire bike and flew over it. There was truly nothing to slow us down.

My stomach had turned a little, but we reached the Special Detention Center on the outskirts in terrifyingly little time.

“Looks like the Guildmaster has already caused trouble.”

One side of the detention facility had already collapsed. Fortunately, the area around it was empty for safety reasons. But the fire was spreading. Fire engines were visible in the distance, but they could not approach the burning section. If they got caught in a Hunter fight, there would only be innocent victims.

“Yerim, can you put out the fire?”

“Yes! Soyoung, please take Mister...”

“No, I’m going inside too.”

Yerim’s eyes widened at my words.

“Mister, are you crazy?”

“Watch your language. I have that item from before. Don’t worry and please put out the fire. Thank you for bringing me here, Soyoung. Please stay back so you don’t get caught up in this.”

“I’ll accept your thanks as Noah’s contact information, then I’ll just watch!”

Kang Soyoung excitedly pulled out her phone.

...Were you filming right now? More importantly, Noah’s contact information? Had she still not given up? I understood, but please think about Comet.

There were barricades, and Hunters from the detention facility stood guard, but they did not stop Yerim, an S-Class Hunter. I got in alongside Yerim.

After activating the bracelet, I entered the empty building. Most people appeared to have evacuated. A charred corpse came into view.

“Yerim, go toward the spreading fire.”

“It’s not like this is my first time seeing a corpse.”

“Hey! That does not mean it’s good to see them!”

It might be impossible not to see any at all, but I wanted her to see fewer, at least. Yerim pretended not to hear my nagging and floated around, using Sigh to extinguish the remaining flames. Another corpse appeared in the meantime.

This time, I remembered the face. It belonged to one of the Hunters who had attacked us in the dungeon before.

‘...That punk Yoohyun.’

He had acted as if he would let things slide. I stepped farther inside, avoiding the building debris, when someone lightly jumped down in front of me.

“Why did you come so early?”

Yoohyun looked down at me with a smile.

“What do you mean, early? Did you kill them all? What about Yoon Gyeongsu?”

“He should be dead by now. Don’t worry about it. It was strange that the Sesung Guildmaster showed mercy, and since they even tried to escape, this is the natural result.”

Seong Hyeonje’s desire to recycle people had surprised me too, but an escape? When I looked at him suspiciously, my little brother smiled shamelessly.

“Let’s go. What time is it? Should we have lunch?”

“He’s alive.”

“What?”

Yoohyun and I turned at the same time at Yerim’s unexpected words. Yoon Gyeongsu stood where Yerim was looking.

With his neck half cut through.

“No, is he dead? But he’s moving. What is this?”

Yerim tilted her head, and Yoohyun frowned.

Then Yoon Gyeongsu opened his mouth.

“Hello!”

It was an unfamiliar woman’s voice.
