◈ My Platinum-Blonde Childhood Friend is Too Pretty

Chapter 0: Prologue

At the age of five.

Holding my mother's hand, I went to the daycare for the first time.

In that peaceful space, where children of my age were clustered in groups, chattering and playing.

There was one.

One child who captured my gaze, my heart.

"Wow..."

A girl, sitting a little apart from the others, engrossed in a picture book.

Her hair, platinum blonde like the finest silk, cascaded down.

Long eyelashes and pretty eyes, shimmering in a soft blue.

A face seemingly displeased, with a pout.

Yet, her delicate features were so perfectly arranged that even this expression seemed endearingly cute.

Seeing her, so 'different' from me, made me realize. The other children, perhaps scared by this 'difference,' dared not approach her.

In my young mind, I thought.

'She's like a princess...'

Like a princess.

Just like the beautiful princesses I saw every morning on my favorite TV animations.

A princess from the screen, now right before my eyes, in reality.

She was the spitting image.

The princess in the cartoons, who, along with the mischievous protagonist, would get entangled in all sorts of adventures.

Sometimes she was bold.

Sometimes cute.

And sometimes, she was cool.

Not just waiting to be saved by the protagonist, but solving problems on her own, shining brightly.

She was my favorite character, the one who later led me to fall for all sorts of princess characters.

Because of that, I couldn't take my eyes off her, this girl who resembled a princess.

Breaking away from the teacher, who was kindly talking to me about this and that, I approached her.

Dazedly, one step at a time.

Until I was about three steps away.

-Swish

Maybe she thought I was an intruder, or perhaps she was just naturally sullen, but her face scrunched up even more as she looked at me. She might have been surprised, too. Her eyes seemed to have widened.

But facing her beautiful face and eyes head-on, I was moved even more and ended up sitting down in front of her.

Without realizing that I didn't have my sketchbook or crayons, which I was inseparable from at home.

I suggested to her.

To 5-year-old Alicia.

"Do you wanna draw a picture?"

Just like any other kid, wanting to share what I loved.

Innocently, or perhaps with a silly blank expression, I suggested we draw together.

She, with her tiny lips puckering.

Replied briefly in a voice as beautiful as marbles rolling.

"Okay, let's do it."
